Are doing a home town gig on September 5th, which of course also happens to be my hometown. Ace. It's been rumoured for about a month, but Muse never confirmed it so no one was quite sure. However it was confirmed in the local paper last night :D

Apparently going to be about 60 000 people turn up, which considering Teignmouth has a population of about 15000 should be quite interesting. Tickets are going to be impossible to get hold of mind, but they are playing on the den which is just a small grass field on the sea front, so I don't see how having a ticket or not will make any difference. Which means free muse gig for me. Happy days.

The Teignmouth old skool lot tearing up the den to an assortment of local hardcore bands. Teignmouth is wild

First three albums were great, the last one was balls i thought. Although Knights of Cydonia was a great song. Have you heard their new stuff? On first listen it was kinda disappointing, imagine gary glitter mixed with queen. I'll give it a chance when the album is out. Its called The Resistance, think its out the 14th September.

Showbiz is still my favourite album, I thought it was brilliant. Origin was good, never really thought too much of their later ones though to be honest. Still, it's a free gig and only about 15mins from where I live

Get in there...

Crazy Golf!

That crazy golf course is no longer there I'm afraid. There is a bigger and better one, they got rid of those tennis courts and made one super, huge mega crazy golf course. It's ace, except I finished about 80 over par on my first go. Think the last hole took me around 35 attempts, there was a family with little kids who passed me despite starting about 5 holes behind

Really? Do you have a ticket? I was under the impression they weren't on sale until Friday? Turns out I might not be going to this now anyway as I may have to attend Uni from the 4th until the 9th

What Uni? I thought you were only thinking of applying?

I'm off to Wales. I applied at the last minute in the end and, surprisingly, got accepted. Only going for a year, with the option to stay on for another 3 but I think I will probably change Universities if I do decide to stay on. My plan is to do a foundation course in a whole new subject for one year to get myself back into the whole studying regime, and then move on to a different Uni.

A friend of mine got the tickets. Unless he's lying to me, which is unlikely!

How come you'll have to go to Uni for five days? That's weird.

Well apparently they were already online, but they were going for like £180 a go or summit. I'm going to queue up outside the local theatre at like 7am on Friday morning and just hope for the best!

It's a bit like an induction course or something I assume. It's optional - sort of - but I think I had better go.

Cool. Congrats and good luck.

Cheers, I think I am going to need it.

They have a new album and at first quick glancing listen, it sounds immense.

Well I've just been talked into taking the hobo option and camping outside the ticket office on Thursday night (after the pubs kick us out, naturally). Worst thing is the ticket office doesn't open until 9am Friday morning, I'm not even that big a fan of Muse, and there is still a fair chance I won't be able to go anyway

You can listen to two of their songs currently on youtube, United States of Eurasia and Uprising. I was at first slightly put off by USoE but I quite like it now. Uprising is good too.

Here are the links.

The thing about USoE is at least Muse have decided to stop ripping off Radiohead, and have moved onto Queen instead.

It's not even funny how much it sounds like a Queen song - they should be sued.

I like Muse and Radiohead and beyond a cursory similarity in a couple songs they are nothing alike, Muse certainly hasn't been ripping them off.

As for the Queen reference, ya you know that they said the song was an homage to Queen, heavily influenced by Queen etc etc. This entire album is more classical in its presentation.

Whatever you think about the music, Muse > Radiohead live, and that isn't debatable. Muse isn't the result of post production studio work. Can you say the same about Radiohead?

Yes.

And anyone who doesn't think that Muse are a blatant ripoff of Radiohead is either a Muse fanboy or knows nothing about music. I'm sorry, there's no room for leeway there.

I like Muse, but their sound is in no way their own. If anything, this just goes to show that when they get bored of one sound (Radiohead's) they just move onto another (Queen's).

Agreed! That said, USoE sounds just like Queen and I must assume it's supposed to sound like that. There really can't be no other explanation.

 If ever a band shouldn't be trying to make half-baked political protest songs it's Muse.

Just about every song Muse has done, is in some way shape or form related to conspiracy, government opression or apocalypse ;p I think these two songs are just the most obvious yet.

USoE is also heavily influenced by 1984.

It always amuses me how it seems imposible for a thread about Radiohead/Muse to continue without it always having the other being mentioned at some point.

Tbf though, there is no comparison between the two now, in 40 years time it certainly won't be Muse people will still be talking about and listening too, and also being influenced by.

Anybody watching this on BBC Radio 1? Think I might have just seen myself in the crowd there

They played both of those. They played about half a dozen new tracks in fact, it was quite a varied play list with songs from literally every album- they even played Cave which was surprising

Apparently the new muse album has leaked. Only in 160kbps but that's still good enough for the average listener.

After reading this I checked a certain place (not the place that is going "official", but that other, smaller, place), and I'm currently getting 400kB/s for something that claims to be 320kbps. It's 128 MB big.

Oh ok, well it doesn't surprise me really. One usually follows soon after the other.
