Muhammad has become the most popular baby name in England and Wales.

"It has been among the top 10 names for baby boys since 2016, but has now overtaken the previous favourite, Noah, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS)."

Thank God.
Incredible arc to this story.

4600 Muhammads. Not that many when you look at it that way.

Its time to ask if Salah's has more influence in England than Cristiano Ronaldo.

We claim Noah too... and God for that matter.

Christie and Christian and chris combined would win in western countries i think

No from I have seen it would Noah. The ones you mentioned aren't actually that popular.

I swear this kind of articles pops up every 2 or 3 years.

the Daily Mail considers stuff like this evergreen content I think

nothing much in the news to day to whinge about and act a bit racist? They pull out one of the greatest hits

A bit like Maria in Portugal because of the virgin mary (nowadays nobody links it to it but it's the origin of the popularity), every year the same name tops this ranking by a huge margin. You'd expect finding Marias everywhere but most use another name. I have 3 cousins, Maria Amélia, Ana Maria and Maria Sofia but no one calls them Maria.

If I go to the pub tonight I know which one will bring it up.

I noted with interest on the two or three other message boards I use, which posters chose to post this. Let’s just say, the glove fits.

Yeah. The dude I'm referring to is just boring. I know deep down he has actual unpleasant ideas but it's just such a tired repetition at this point it's just habit and muscle memory.

Jesus isn't that popular in Spain.
When I first lived in Spain, I was talking to my neighbour Joseph who introduced me to his wife, Josepha. My other neighbour was called Pepe. It took me a few months to discover that Pepe is the standard abbreviation for Joseph. Pepe's wife was called Maria, which was different I guess, but part of the same story.

Definite shortage of names in the neighborhood.

There is also Pep(Josep) in Catalonia. An other one that can surprise people is Paco which is supposed to be Francisco.

Haha, exactly like my post on the previous page! :)

Yeah, Muhammad is a good traditional name and most people are going with quirky alternative spellings nowadays. It's probably number one because everyone else is naming their kids stupid looking things like Dayve, Sayrah and horsechoker

A good Christian English name.

And what about the variations of Muhammed? Mohamed, Muhammad, Mohammad, etc?

Forgive me if I'm being pedantic but let me get this straight. So Noah, the name of a presumably middle eastern male of historical religious significance has been overtaken by Mohammad, the name of a middle eastern male of historical religious significance?

Next you will tell them that Christianism isn't originally European.

Yeah, I mentioned Paco (and also Jose) as omnipresent here in Andalusia. I could swear every second guy in my town is called either or. Jesus doesn't hold a candle to them.

To be fair: my wife is from Croatia and in her town "everyone" is called Ivan or Marija.
