Television Mr McMahon - Netflix series

Okay I watched it.

Like any human being, he has good and bad points. However, his (alleged but lets be real, almost confirmed) bad points faaaar outweigh his good points.
It was nice to see that WCW vs WWF rivalry played out like this. I never knew they were getting their ass kicked THAT much.
If you are interested in this bit, there's a fantastic documentary focused on this called Who Killed WCW. I would highly recommend it. It goes into detail about the rise and collapse of WCW and the Monday Night Wars.

I'll check it out, thanks!

I want to watch this but also don't because it seems really distasteful to release a documentary about anything other than how much of a sex offender he (allegedly) is.
He doesn’t come out of it well. Although I got the impression they wanted to make the classic Netflix propaganda piece, like Jordan/Beckham etc, then the allegations came out and they re-edited it. Especially as this was mainly filmed in 2021 I think?

Is a good watch.

Yeah I mean I probably will watch but (from the way its been advertised) it does seem self indulgent rather than an exposure piece.

I know all about the general WWE history etc. anyway although itd still be good bsckground watching from that perspective

The Monday Night Wars stuff really is fascinating. I love hearing about all the shady, underhanded stuff WCW were doing to overtake WWF. Going on the air 5 minutes before RAW just to spoil the outcomes is dastardly stuff. When he had them beat in the ratings, Eric Bischoff descended from the rafters on a motorbike, wearing a crown, calling himself the king.

Bischoff was a great pantomime villain.

I remember WCW would come on here on TNT after it changed over from Cartoon Network, and I'd try to get into it but never really could. Nothing would really happen to hook me in. And I remember them reading out the RAW results ...although was a bit meaningless here as we wouldn't get either show until the Friday anyway.

I got into WWE around the Wrestlemania with Brett vs Austin and just found it much easier to get hooked on. They definitely had a big lull building up to Brett leaving, but then after that as a kid/teenager it was the best thing on TV for 2-3 years. Although I don't think it really became cool/ok to watch wrestling until about midway through.

When I was younger I didn't have Sky Sports, but TNT was free so I got into WCW. I got really invested with the whole NWO stuff and the Wolfpack and all that jazz.

But then I got Sky Sports around the time HHH vs. Mick Foley Royal Rumble and realized how good the product was. Enjoyed the rest of the attitude era and jumped off after Chris Jericho became the first Undisputed Champion.

I tune in from time to time now but it just don't hit the same.

That was my experience with WCW too. Pretty much everything I've seen of the WCW vs WWE rivalry has been retrospectively, but I remember catching it now and then on TNT after Cartoon Network closed down, but I didn't really get into it the way I was into WWE. It was rare I was allowed to watch it regularly, where as WWE had a whole bunch of recaps and repeats over the weekend, so that probably helped.

None of my friends liked it either, where as we were all into WWE. That was a huge part of it, talking about it at school on Monday. And then doing wrestling moves at lunchtime, until somebody cried and/or got a busted nose.

What was it like being a teacher in the 90s?

To this day, I contend me and my classmate Aaron Hilton put on a 5* No-DQ match, I was even humble enough to put him over and worked the big heel angle perfectly. He reversed a powerbomb with a chair (hardback textbook) then elbow dropped from the top of the outdoor cricket net frame for the pin fall.

Great times.

I got wwe network for a while just to go back through the 1997-1999 era. It was just great chaos tv. Some parts don't age well or appropriately at all but it's still easy to see the entertainment value.

I didn't realise how well done the Austin vs Vince angle was until I watched it back. Much as he's a scumbag Vince played his part brilliantly. Start out almost pitying him having to deal with Austin constantly causing havoc, but then he slowly descends into being a power crazed madman. Kind of reflective of real life Vince actually.

The segment where they introduce Tyson and Austin comes out and ruins it, causing Vince to finally snap, is one of the best I think they've done. It all got more polished towards the millennium and I kind if went off it probably a bit before you.

Do wish I got more into WCW but Hogan etc were slightly before my time and probably same as you I just went with what I started watching first.

One of my friends was into both but whenever he tried to bring up WCW he'd get told to shut up. He's still an uber wrestling fan now I think (one of those who has bligs on it and all sorts), although I haven't spoken to him in many years because he also turned into a massive weirdo

Almost like there’s a correlation between the two.

Is there anywhere you can watch old WWE from the mid to late 90s/early 00s. Wouldn't mind rewatching some of the attitude era matches for some nostalgia.

WWE network has literally everything. Think the monthly subscription fee is a similar price to Netflix.

I just watch it on YouTube, my son is really into it now so we watch it together. Although he recently tried to chokeslam the cat

I occasionally try to do a double armed DDT on the missus but she manages to wiggle free each time.

Just had a look, yeah this is what Im after. Cheers
WWE network is basically the netflix of wrestling but the network got sold to peacock in the states, and since then there's been little to no support for the network in other countries. You used to get loads of documentaries and cool shows, the interface was really user friendly, now it's a complete after thought.

You can still use it to watch old ppvs and eps though, which is what I do.

Be warned it's all moving to Netflix come January, and netflix will be airing raw and smackdown live in the UK. Can't wait.

Will they be airing the ppv shows as well?

Now this I don't know. The network did at no extra cost, think netflix is essentially buying the catalogue and rights so i guess it's upto netflix whether they carry that on or charge.

Think I'll just hold off until it's on Netflix.

The WWE Vault on YouTube is excellent too and it's free.

I remember this being shown live on channel 4 around the time they started randomly showing the odd WWF PPV plus Sunday Night Heat

Yes. That Rumble was the first of the horrific run on Channel 4.... Monday Night Raw on Friday, (taped on Tuesday) Thursday Night Smackdown on Saturday Morning hardly cut and Heat on C4 Sunday, all PPV's free and oddly live with a handful on Channel 4 with it's insane ads and cuts, glory days

Was Heat the show where they showcased up and coming wrestlers? There was rarely any decent ones on there or maybe it was a highlights show of Smackdown and Raw?

Heat was the B version of Raw for bottom carders, sometimes midcarders and developing talent. There was also raw highlights.

Whenever I turned on Heat Taz was wrestling. So I obviously proceeded to turn it off.

Blimey that's a name I had forgotten. Used to love it back in the day. Remember Ken Shamrock. He was a nutter
Remember when Saturn started doing anal with a mop?
