Wouldn't be unhappy if this happens actually

Kajumba is indeed reliable for news coming out of Germany, if I recall correctly he was one revealing details of the interest in Sancho before some of the more prolific journos. It also corresponds with the Luckhurst piece on wanting a forward player in addition to a striker.

There's this consistent rhetoric on the cafe that numbers in a position equivalates quality when it doesn't. One of the most underperforming areas last season was the wide areas. It wasn't a quantity issue it was a quality one. Sancho approaching his third successive below par season, Antony still having much to prove but has shown promise. Garnacho is a great prospect but it can't be said if he's a guaranteed starter. Only player who was genuine top four quality in contribution was Rashford.

You take Rashford's form out of the team and it would have been Europa league next season. That is a reflection of the wide areas more than the individual. I think a wide forward is just as important as a striker in terms of need.

Clearly bullshit. I doubt we will have funds left after buying a striker. If we do there are other priorities.
Keep reading this. How do people know how much funds are available?

Rashford and Hojlund as our main strikers and Diaby to slot in at LW.

If this first involves us in any way selling Sancho for a decent fee then forget it.

Massive wages, low stock, equals zero buyers.

We don't need to sell Sancho, we need to loan out Amad and Pellestri and sell Martial if we're signing someone like Diaby.

Hojlund, Rashford, Sancho, Garnacho, Antony and Diaby for 3 positions is good depth.

He's left-footed and has explosive pace. Him and Rashford down the flanks would be deadly.

An exciting player but I have no idea how another wide player could possibly be a priority. This is like City with fullbacks a few years ago or Liverpool with forwards last year.

'ill be shocked if we pull this off. That would be Sancho done though.....
Firstly, I think it is the Frimpong-Diaby combo that we would try to bring on board, as we have been very left sided for the past few years, which makes it predictable and much easier to defend against. My only question is whether they are not more of a counterattacking type of pairing, which isn't necessarily what ETH is trying to do, or maybe he wants the variety.

With regards to Sancho, I can see him playing more in the centre, where I think he would be more effective, playing in and around the centre foward (in an 8/10 role with Bruno, Mount and Eriksen). Although he has rarely found his best form at Utd, he is a massive talent who has shown moments of brilliance, and I still think he could come good in a more possession based team.

We would still have Amad, Pellestri and Elanga, who could all be sold. Then we are left with Rashford & Garnacho on the left, and Diaby & Antony on the right, with Martial & Hojlund through the middle. Obviously we would all love to swap Martial for Kane, but I would even bring in Gift Orban to give us a bit of an X factor and be less reliant on Martial (who can only get bought by Saudis based on his current wage).

It is indeed corresponds to what we been hearing since before the summer windown ppen that ETH wants 2 strikers/forwards. And i thinks these reports that we explore the wide areas is becase EtH being flexible re shaping the squad and if the targets he want cant be got.

Ideally he would want Kane and Hoijlund as young back up but this combo seems a non going then now we change from that to finding a left sided wing players to make us more tactically flexible and help us re the points you mention last seasons. We looking like to have Rashford and Hoijlund as a paire for up top and so a leftwing/forward is needed as Sancho still having problems, maybe, we play him more in the middle.

martial needs to be replaced as a key player this summer of we know what's good for us. As for diaby-Frimpong its the midfield that determines their use. Also mount was brought into address our left side bias, because he prefers the right half space when higher up field.

ATM Villa are going to end up paying 50mil for Diaby, aren't they?

I said last year we should of signed him not Antony . Villa are gonna be very strong next season. Great signing

No, we shouldn't have. He is not good enough for us. Very good on the counter and with a lot of space to run into, but for a possession oriented team, he's just not good enough.

€60m would be really good business

Getting the Leverkusen band back together. It’s almost enough to make me take my xBox back off my son & fire up FIFA but no.

Dealing with European play will be challenging but Villa are putting together a genuinely good side.

I don't think their talent level is really much different from Spurs (especially if Kane is sold), Newcastle, and Chelsea.

--------------Watkins--------
Ramsey--Buendia--Diaby
-------Luiz----Tielemans
Digne--Torres--Carlos---Cash
--------------Martinez--------

Bench:

Coutinho
Bailey
Archer
McGinn
Kamara
Mings
Konsa

That's probably on par if not better than a few united teams over the past decade. Interesting times for villa. If I was an oil state that would be the club I'd be very interested in buying too.

He's started well, I don't want to disregard Antony as there's still time for him to find his feet but provisionally Diaby does look more dynamic. Goal and assist in his most recent game and what's interesting is that he was able to also play in spots on the left. Have to also credit Matty Cash who was excellent in the wing back role. Diaby was able to drift into the center aswell due to the spaces opening up. It cannot be overstated how much an overlapping fullback who's got good delivery can bring to the wide player. It got the best out of Sancho with Hakimi (imo the best he looked at Dortmund) it gives the wide player so much more options in possession.

I know Villa likely have big aspirations because of the owners etc but I wouldn't be surprised if he's on the radar for the top 4 teams end of the season. Diaby and Olise both very promising.
