Most frustrating Transfer Sagas

I think the first one I remember here was Benzema in 2009, and then there seemed to be at least one major saga every year since:

2010: Ozil
2011: Sneijder, Sanchez
2012: Hazard
2013: Thiago, Fabregas, Strootman, Ozil again

Then there were some smaller ones that didn't seem that likely, like Villa and Silva, as well as others that I've forgotten.

We did "win" a couple of big sagas in that win at least: RVP, Berbatov, Hargreaves, Di Maria and finally Herrera
2014: Vidal

Was Di Maria really a transfer saga? It seemed to be done and dusted pretty quickly.

Well it was reported very early on that Real wanted him out (I think maybe even whispers before the World Cup started? Certainly after James became the obvious annual Real star muppet signing) and we were linked from the start, because we are linked with everybody during transfer windows. The favourites for signing him quickly became PSG, with us being mentioned by the crappier "news" sources throughout the summer, but PSG was the expected move.

Then there was the standard period of briefings from the club, the player and his agent, and all the rest of it. By the time we did sign him then we had already played the first two games of the season, so the whole thing really did span most of the summer.

Though it wasn't that frustrating, partly because of course we did eventually get him, but also because I didn't ever really think we'd sign him until just before we actually did

Shearer was a tough one. Mock-ups in a United kit in The Mirror and all...

Surely between Sneijder and Hazard.

The Hazard one got me. I remember having a right old rant to my mates on the evening he announced he was signing for Chelsea.

The Thiago one was frustrating too. Especially after he scored that hatrick in the u21 final and De Gea signed that ball, I was convinced he was ours.

I don't get frustrated any more in the twitter age. Although, I'm still pissed about Robben and Ronaldinho.

Sneijder. According to the media, we signed him about 14 times. He never actually got here though. Plus, he was built up as the solution to all our problems which wound me up too.

The obviously fake Ronaldo return that turns half the Caf into an insecure ex boyfriend pretending he's moved on from his ex girlfriend all while secretly spending 2 hours a day staring at their old photos and thinking what their kids will look like.

The Pogba return (that will go on forever) that we need to do because it will avenge our honour or something.

Personally, I think the Vidal thing was funny looking at it from the outside and I deliberately avoided the Thiago one.

What happened to De Gea? He went from the ultimate United muppet to being on the verge of leaving for bloody Madrid.

Women... *sigh*

Ronaldinho will always be the most frustrating one. Would have been him playing behind Ruud.

Shearer, the second time round when he ended up at Newcastle. Everyone was convinced we were going to get him, with one of the tabloids even doctoring a photo on the back page to show him in a United kit.

In hindsight, of course, we didn't do badly at all, but I was gutted we didn't get him.

The Ronaldinho and Robben sagas pissed me off no end as well.

For the people who are sad about not signing Ronaldinho - obviously it would have been great to see him at United, but surely we wouldn't have looked at Ronaldo had we signed Ronaldinho? That's the idea that I've picked up anyway. Would have been insanely good to have both

The Hazard saga, I think SAF didn't want to pay his agent so we pulled out of the deal, looking back now his agent could have asked for £10m and it would still be a bargain. So annoying it was obvious how good he would become just pay the fecking money.

2013 was pretty horrible. It was basically like Woodward had just loaded up a fresh Football Manager game and gone full muppet mode, only to fail to deliver on any of them.

Also found the Hazard saga very annoying after the player had said basically that he would be moving to Manchester, only to do a U-turn and end up at Chelsea. (This is mostly with hindsight and how he has turned into an excellent player, to be fair).

Personally, I always found the Berbatov saga very annoying because I never really thought that Berbatov was that good, and thought we were daft going to such lengths to sign him. I wanted Huntelaar at around this time, was always disappointed we didnt move for him (when we got Owen and Hernandez instead, roughly).

Finally, the Tosic and Ljajic situation. Really weird that one, with the players being officially unveiled and all sorts. Ljajic being hyped as a future star, and Tosic looking like a decent enough winger (no worse than the likes of Young or Valencia when we subsequently signed them).

Thiago definitely.
Hazard, Fabregas, Vidal and Sneijder have been frustrating as well.

Tommy Svindal Larson - was a battle between Wigan and my mighty Bristol Rovers team on champ manager 97/98. Ended up signing for those pie eater's managed by my mate instead of me. I had the last laugh unearthing 5 future English and Welsh internationals who went on to be sold for millions after i'd already won the 1st division with them.

Success is the best form of revenge you crazy bastard

Ronaldinho must have been something.. Wasn't really around (at the caf) for Hazard or Thiago. Vidal was absolutely devastating for me, wanted him so badly. Spent too much time in that thread.

The Ronaldinho saga was what originally brought me to the Caf...I'd been lurking since then, and decided to sign up not long after...

There are two that stick out for me...Patrick Kluivert, before he was a rapist, hit and run murderer, or whatver he did...and Marcelo Salas...

Plus, as someone mentioned previously, Batitstuta, I'd have creamed my duds for that one...

I was joking when i said Depay earlier (although it will be annoyingly frustrating if we piss about and Liverpool get him).
I think the Lucas Moura transfer was the one that really got me because it dragged on for so long and it really seemed like we had got him up until right at the end. I really believed he would be the next big thing in a few years time as well.

Few things pissed me off more than SAF not wanting to give Hazard's agent the €6M he wanted (But he found €9M to pay fecking Bebe) ....Hazard was clearly going to be a superstar and his value is now triple what Chelsea bought him for. We were arrogant and did not buy from a position of power.
