Perfect Dark Zero.

I loved Goldeneye and Perfect Dark.

I was so exited when I bought this and was gutted to find out it was utter tripe.

Has a game ever disappointed you more?

Also PES2008 was a big let down in my opinion.

FFXII. After getting FFVII, FFVIII, FFIX and FFX within the space of 4 years (1997-2001) we had to wait six years for FFXII.

It was still a very good game in its own right, but the story was tedious, side-quests weren't exciting and I couldn't connect with any of the characters. Levelling up also seemed a chore at times aswell. What made it more disappointing is the fact that the opening intro was probably the best I have seen in any FF game.

Supreme Commander turned out to be a bit rubbish, thought it was going be the best thing ever, especially coming from the guys who made Total Annihilation

angel of darkness. Take tomb raider, remove the tombs and replace with an abandoned carnival! unbelievable.

i didn't like MGS2, the opening secition on the tanker was good but the rest wasn't imo. introduced some good characters but no good gameplay set pieces you expect from MGS and there were far too many lengthy cut scenes

PES has never again reached the heights of no.4

i didn't like FF8 either. went and brought the limited edition pack on release day and ploughed several 5+ hours sessions into it in succession before realising i was thoroughly bored by it all (i always think the beauty of FF games is you dont realise how boring they are until after you've spent 100+ hours completing them!)

Recently its been Battle field: Bad Company.

I loved BF2MC and was really looking forward to this. I played the demo and just could not get on with the control's, they seemed far too clunky and unresponsive.

Second.
One of the few FF games since FF7 I never finished. Standard and generic story and more importantly the game lacked heart and soul....if that makes any sense.

:rolleyes::lol: pro evo 6 anyone?

Invisible War, Assassins Creed and PDZ are spot-on choices.

I myself would have to include the original Killzone - was hyped up to being the best console shooter and the ultimate 'Halo-killer' but neither happened.

Yes mate, agree.

I purchased this the day after release for £49.99 (the most I have ever payed for a game, due to being out of stock in most shops), I traded it in the next day - had to pay £15 & BF:BC to get Beijing - two of the worst ever purchases I have ever made.

Age of Empires III

I never played it.

But NOTHING could EVER top Age of Empires II. Best game ever.

And on that note - Heroes of Might and Magic IV and V. Not that I've played eather more than once, but nothing could top HoMM III Armageddon's Blade. Second best game ever.

How did Morrowind IV: Oblivion go?

The Elderscrolls was an absolutely brilliant game.

I totally agree, cesc. HOMM III retains its playability to this day.

Final Fantasy VII is one of the most overrated games in existence, in my opinion. It's one of those games that people go on and on about to the point that other people say it to fit in and, whatsmore, start believing it.

Don't get me wrong, it's a very good game (one of the only truly decent Final Fantasy games), but it's not the best ever.

But in terms of games that were hyped to feck and turned out a rather massive let down, then I'll have to go with any game by Peter Molyneux in the past eight years.

Black & White, Fable, Black & White 2 and Fable 2 (both of which featured even more hype than the originals, which had already turned out to be a major letdown).

Never played ANY of the FF games. Nor watched the movies.

Age of Empires II & Heroes of Might and Magic III are ageless games.

I'm glad you said that, because it was a load of shit.

You're missing out my friend.

Saying that I have never played the games you have mentioned.

Not true, the conqueors expanion is better than AoE2 :smirk:

But you're right, best. game. ever.

Yeah I figured that was a given.

Me and my best mate still bust it out every other month and have massive three hour regicide games. They're usually massive cat and mouse affairs which end up finishing after about a 4 minute swift crushing attack.

So much fun, so much suspense and usually so much pain from my end (as I my little fat man's shot down as he tried to leg it to the corner of the map).

Mongols reigned supreme. My favourite tactic was geting Seige Mangonels and shooting through the forrests to by-pass the chokeholds. Great times.

I would love to give you a game online, alas my internet hasn't worked in weeks. I used to be a known player online, highest rank was about 1873. I was pretty feckin mint at it a few years back. You ever played the michi map cesc? It basically just has a line of trees right down the middle of th emap seperating each player

How did Morrowind IV: Oblivion go?

The Elderscrolls was an absolutely brilliant game.

Its not called Morrowind IV, Morrowind was the game given to ESIII. Its simply called ESIV: Oblivion.

Oblivion was a disappointment to me but not in an epic scale as many of the games listed here were.

In fact Oblivion is actually regarded as a commercial success with really high reviews and the majority of those who've played it regard it in equally high light.

Its scale of disappointment is only apparent for those who've religiously played Morrowind; most of those who've played both Morrowind and Oblivion will agree that the former is clearly the superior. That being said though I did enjoy Oblivion and have many hours clocked on it, but I cant help but feel that its generally a let-down.

I loved FF7, I think it was the first RPG I ever played, but on the whole I've found the series to be utterly pointless. An exercise in tedium.
