And people said he was good in the 1st half. He's Tom Cleverley 2.0

He's not good enough for this club. Southampton is his level.

Been saying he is nowhere near good enough for months and have been told I have an agenda. Yes I do have an agenda, to get Schneiderlin sold as I truly believe he isn't even premier league quality.

He was one of the best CM's in the league the season before we bought him. He might not be good enough for us but that's just a bollocks statement.

Yeah it's a very difficult concept to grasp, in fairness. Takes a real football guru to get your head around it.
And yet so many seem incapable of grasping it.

Won the ball back well but that is all he gives us.

Need much more from him and like others have said, he disappears when we have the ball and when he does get it, he does nothing with it.

Edit - Scholes said similar just now.

Well he has. At Southampton, when he was played next to Wanyama, he got forward quite a lot.

No he didn't. While at Southampton he was 1st in the league for interceptions and 1st or 2nd for tackles, the rest of his defensive numbers were very impressive whereas his dribbles/take ons/shots/key passes and all the attributes you associate with a box to box CM where non existent. 14 goals in 230 appearances when half were in the championship isn't a box to box cm.

He's just a very limited player in truth. Just seems so pointless.
Ermm, no. He's a defensive midfielder, his job is to literally defend and shield the back four.

And in the grand scheme of things the midfield defends, while the defense cleans up the mess.

If your defense is doing the majority of the defending then you've got a problem.

He played ahead of Wanayama in midfield. Interceptions aren't just clocked up in front of the back four.

He's a box to box, or at least played as a box to box for Soton. I like him more as a DM as he is really too limited to play more advanced though.

I've already replied to a poster above who claimed the same thing. He never played box to box for Southampton.

Oh, christ. We're not back to arguing about whether or not Schneiderlin was a 6 or an 8, are we? Again? For the billionth time?

Morgan and Wanyama were a double pivot. They were a great partnership because they knew when to fill in, when to drop off, when to go forwards. Neither of them were a defined 6 or 8. Look at their average position or heatmaps from that season. I posted them in last season's Schneiderlin thread, more than once, because it's a fecking bent argument that just won't die. They played the same position in tandem. They were very good at it. Enough.

Now stop talking about it forever and ever.

He couldn't play box to box to save his life. He would then get shown up to be the average player he is. At last now you have these shitty excuse of him being a DM to back up his pointless displays.

I'm not looking at stats, I'm watching the games and the positioning of Schneiderlin. There's no way he sat in front of the back four.

Stats mean nothing. I mean, how many goals did Cleverley score for us whilst he was here, despite having licence to get forward? Herrera, Dembele, Ramires, Henderson the same.

He played alongside Wanyama for 2 of his 6 years at the club, not ahead of him. What about every other metric that you could possibly use then? His touches in the final 3rd/shots per game/passes in final 3rd and basically every area you'd expect a box to box to excel at he's non existent. But tackles/interceptions/duels/clearances and every defensive attribute he was top 3 in the league.

Everyone saying he's just a DM, where was he for the goal? Nowhere to be seen when someone broke from midfield and wasn't tracked into the box. Herrera was the only midfielder actually attempting to run back.

Most of you barely watched 5 Southampton games a year and half would have been against us. Stats are far more useful for judging a player than your "well i saw him do this so stats mean nothing" Herrera/Dembele/Ramires/Henderson all rank higher than Schneiderlin in basically all of the attacking stats I've cited anyway.

Cleverly was awful in every area not just offensively.

Anyone who watched him between 2012-2015 will know he's a far far better player than that. His career at United has been very strange - perhaps it's feeling insecure over his position in the or he's struggling to deal with the pressure of being at such club E.g he has mental issues. Thought it looked a very good signing at the time but he's underwhelmed badly

Needs some confidence. Was very poor today - looked lost position-wise at times. Seems to me that Jose couldn't care much about this game and just sent his team out without many instructions.

(6+8):2=7

Fecking hell, mind boggles who do did we manage to bring in?!

So basically what people are saying is this guy is only a good dm when he's got another dm (ie Wanyama) next to him as well, that sounds extremely limited to me..

The man can put in a good tackle every now and again and is decent at covering spaces (/hiding in them), but if you're a holding cm for a top team, you need a bit of attacking prowess about you. This guy's mindset is set to ultra defensive at all times, his constant back/side passing with no attacking intent kills the tempo of our game. If you want attractive football, stay away from this guy.

He's got confidence issues, he was quadruple the player he is now at Southampton and after we sell him to spurs or Everton I reckon he'll impress again. Btw why was he so deep? does he think he's a 3rd defender or something?

Probably instructed to do so.
