To be fair this kind of post was written time and time again about Fletcher. Until he found his use and suddenly the fans loved him.

Im sure someone will now try and claim Fletcher could always pass and was never criticised.

I don't get what the link is with these comparisons. Does Fletcher's career with us somehow make it more likely Schneiderlin will become a first team player?

That summer I was never excited with us signing Memphis, but I must admit I was over the moon when we announced we're getting him. What a mistake that was.

I didn't know he was this limited that as a midfielder he's more or less pointless. For all the slack Fellaini gets, at least he offers something different. Morgan offers nothing. Along with Memphis, get rid.

I really rated him at Southampton but he's done absolutely nothing with us. I'm struggling to recall any really decent performances. It's disappointing but it's probably best for both parties that he moves on.

He has played 27 minutes in the PL this season, it was a strange signing because he wasn't better than Carrick but still a very good player, but too good for the bench.

The poster was calling out the style of player not the quality. I'm simply calling out that people used to chastise Fletcher for being limited and a work horse and made the same arguments that we didn't need that type of player. We do, we just need one in form.

Such a shame.

Made a really promising start to his career here, a lot of praising came his way during his first few games here about the amount on interceptions etc he was making.

Would like to see him given a sustained run on games though.

Fellaini had run of games because he did the job that are asked by the manager. The haters are just making him a scapegoat because he has connection with Moyes and not United quality with a poor hairstyle.
Schneiderlin last season was clearly being inconsistent, LVG played him when he played well but dropped him when he played poor which I think it's fair enough. This season he has given some chances by Jose but he didn't take them at all.
Look at Mkhytaryan, he had his chance against City but he didn't take it, so he was dropped. Later on he got another chance in Europa League and against West Ham in cup and he took the chances and showed that he deserves a starter against Everton which he got one. If players got their chance then they have to take it, if they don't take it then don't blame the managers for dropping them.

Some players come in and dont do a lot in their chances and still get more. Fellaini did play well individually this season, but in previous times he was given chances without doing a lot and still got more. Miki has had to do more than most to get more chances.

He will go down as one of the worst signings in United history. Garry Birtles level bad.

I was so excited about us signing him as well. Would love to know how his time at United has gone so spectacularly wrong.

I didn't think he was as bad as some people make out, but he was far too limited to be a proper 2 man midfielder for us. He just couldn't handle that responsibility it seems.

Make him a confident player again and he will show his worth, shamefully he hasn't taken many chances he was given, this year he had none so quite a shame, could be given last run instead of fellaini who is pointless..

Fletcher got criticised for not being good enough not because of the type of player he was. There's really no link between the two.

United fans have no problem with a limited player IF the rest of his game is determined, tough, effective. See Nicky Butt, Hargreaves or Fletcher in his prime. We'd have no problem now with Schneiderlin if his defensive work was top notch. Unfortunately he disappears in games. Not something I've seen from a United midfielder before.

I think they're both poor players but on the underlined part: maybe LvG and now Mourinho select Fellaini ahead of Schneiderlin because he does have something to offer. He seldom shows it but the best runs in LvG's tenure involved Fellaini and Mourinho's best league run involved Fellaini.

Basically what I'm saying for the coaches there is a method to the madness in theory with afro whereas Schneiderlin is the pointless one.

Not something you've seen in a United midfielder? We've had lots of midfielders who did that. Ander and Pogba have done that and they're our best midfielders.

Yes. Fellaini can always win the ball in the air. Does that make him a better holding midfielder? No.

Transfer has been even more disappointing than Memphis. I never rated Depay, I rated this guy.

He's not playing because he's bang average and utterly pointless. Fellaini is quite clearly a better and more effective player.

I think Woody signed him because he believed the RedCafe hype machine.

The coaches who work with them disagree. I'm no fan of Fellaini but there has to be a reason why he gets picked. That's just my two cents.

What's so disappointing is when players like Fellaini get more chances than Schniederlin.

Might I ask you to be more specific, when is that "previous times"?

2015/2016 season:
Schneiderlin last season (29 apps, 72.4% full game, 13.8% subbed off and 13.8% subbed on) was clearly played more league game time than Fellaini last season (18 apps, 33.3% full game, 33.3% subbed off, 33.3% subbed on).
Fellaini got more game time in FA cup competition last season because he contributed a lot in a cup competition.

2014/2015 season:
Fellaini in LVG first season did very well and as a result a lot of people didn't want him to be sold after that.

Both players were given their chances by the manager, Fellaini took them, and Schneiderlin didn't. Fair enough that Fellaini isn't United quality player but as far what I have seen since last season that Schneiderlin has done nothing but worse than Fellaini. Just like Fellaini, Schneiderlin is not a United quality player. A lot of people were being deluded by his one or two seasons performance with a mid table club and think he will be a class player at a higher level of club like Manchester United.

Yes. Fellaini can always win the ball in the air. Does that make him a better holding midfielder? No.

How is Schneiderlin a better holding midfielder in your view? I'm not saying Fellaini is better I'm just curious how can you assume that Schneiderlin is better? I agree with @Boycott both players are equally poor. Fellaini offers more for set pieces and Fellaini did well at the start of season when he was given a chance, that's why he got picked ahead of Schneiderlin this season.

Give him chances. He can be a simpler, but just as effective replacement for Carrick

Well, that's a bit too much to ask.

I don't see anything from that video that he is capable to be "just as effective replacement for Carrick".

It's like saying, Fellaini can be just as effective replacement for Scholes by watching this video.

Spot on.

What's so disappointing is when players like Fellaini get more chances than Schniederlin.

Because Fellaini is the superior player. He was better for Everton than Schneiderlin was for Southampton and both LvG and Mourinho (good managers) appear to rate Fellaini higher. I have NO idea why people have such a high opinion of Schneiderlin, he has done less than nothing for us. He's been a terrible, terrible signing.

Fellaini's selection is something that will leave many scratching their heads for years to come. He's a nothing player at this level but I guess united have dropped several levels since Fergie's retirement

He's been poor lately, sure. He has made actual positive contributions in his United career though. Conversely, Schneiderlin has made what I would call minor negative contributions or no contribution at all.

He really wasn't. I'd wager that no one apart from Moyes would have even considered Fellaini as a transfer target while he was at Everton. Schneiderlin would have had more suitors after that season at Southampton.

MS was linked with Liverpool, Spurs and Arsenal. In fact he was thought to be nailed on to sign for Arsenal and the bookies even slashed odds on a deal coming to fruition. No one else wanted Fellaini but United and the club ended up paying more than his buyout clause after failing to trigger it when they had the chance. It was a desperate last ditch transfer after failing to land Fabegras and even Moyes wasn't pleased with the fee

I don't care what teams wanted each player. IMO Fellaini performed at a higher level for Everton than Schneiderlin did for Southampton. I'm not saying Schneiderin wasn't a good player for the Saints, just that I don't think he was as good. Their respective United careers have also shown this I believe.

Fellaini was a key part in us finishing in the top 4 under LVG and then winning the FA cup last year. All Schneiderlin does is leave you scratching your head as to what the feck he's actually good at? The answer is of course nothing whatsoever.

I guess it's all down to personal opinions. It feels like many United fans are still scared by that Fellaini game against United. Personally, I don't remember Everton playing particularly outstanding. Fellaini had moments but was nowhere the best player in Everton, he was nowhere Baines, Cahill or Dustin. Schneiderlin not only bossed games, especially the City game, but was instrumental in a Soton team that pushed above their weight. All you need to do is to watch season reviews and see how good he was. It's easy to remember Fellaini because he scored against United and he's position closer to the opposition goal but Schneiderlin was stellar that season.

Just because a player has been mismanaged doesn't make him worse than the one getting game time ala Young and Di Maria. If we sold both of them to another manager I know which one I'd put my money on to perform better.

I hope Schneiderlin moves and prove that he's much better than this. Fellaini doesn't have anything to prove, he's not getting any better than this

I don't expect Schneiderlin moves to top clubs and shows that he's a good player, but I expect him to do very well when he moves to mid table club like Everton because that's in my opinion where his level is.

His performance that season was overrated by his sympathizers simply because of all the criticism he took. Fellaini was merely par for the course and he only scored two more goals than Chris Smalling that season FFS. It just goes to show how badly things have gone in the last three seasons.

Bloody hell. If this was a youtube video of some young midfielder from Serbia, we would be all creaming ourselves at the thought of him signing for us. Confirms that you should never rely on Youtube videos!

Fellaini is way better than Schneiderlin. The abuse he gets on here is ridiculous, yes he cost us sunday, but he's the only player who cant build up any merit and when he plays shit once, all his recent performances are forgotten and he's back to being a tree. Rojo should have gotten red and we should have been playing with 10 men from early, that could have cost us even more than Fellaini's horror show.

Good post. People hate him because he is tall and was bought by Moyes. Even Mourinho defending him against the fans didn't make any difference to this mob.
