This is a rather odd response to a simple question
That’s only if you believe the player and his representatives are lying. He was angry at the level of bids turned down in the January window when he then put in public transfer requests.
To keep him happy til Summer, when Brighton EXPECTED here to be a bidding war, they had him sign a pretty meager pay rise with the promise he would be sold in the Summer as long as the price was reasonable.
Now, Caicedo’s camp thought 70 was too much to ask in January. Do you think they were told “100m or you don’t leave and you’re stuck on 60k” when they signed? That seems massively unlikely.
They thought there would be multiple bidders, so they didn’t think it would be an issue.
But there isn’t. All you have are cop outs from people like De Zerbi essentially saying he shouldn’t have listened to him because didn’t have the authority to make promises.
Teams make u official promises to players all the time. MOST teams honor them.
Brighton isn’t.
No it’s not true because I am coach, not owner, coach, not sporting director,” De Zerbi said.
“In my work I am used to speaking with my players every day, part of life not only football but I didn’t give my word for nothing.
“We didn’t speak about the next transfer market window, for me he is a player like the others.
I think you are being naive. Do you think he would admit to that in the public? C'mon manDe Zerbi didn't say that. His exact words
It's your assumption that Caicedo was promised a transfer in the summer and it's your assumption that the fee was good enough.
Even if we agree that Brighton promised him that he can leave if they get good bid, what exactly is a good bid? How can 70-80 million be a good bid when players like Havertz cost 65 million and Rice 105 million.
If Brighton said Caicedo can leave then it's on Chelsea to make acceptable bid, not on Brighton to lower their price.

Excellent post again.
I’ll add, separate to your point, there are some very deluded fans of the Big Clubs who don’t get it. There is a lack of understanding of their position in the footballing pyramid in relation to everyone else.
Chelsea are owned by a new billionaire owner, switching from their old billionaire owner. Despite this, they have humiliated themselves in terms of spend-to-performance.
Once again, early in the season Chelsea snatched Brighton’s manager, 6 key coaching staff, the head of recruitment, oh and the player of the season.
Even now, just check the Evan Ferguson comments. “Let’s just buy him now and loan him back for a year”. Why would that benefit anyone except the people demanding it online, with no appreciation that their team isn’t the be-all and end-all.
There is absolutely no self-awareness in these comments.

Not to be an ITK dipshit but have heard from friends of friends that part of the hang-up is that Gallagher's valuation is a point of contention for a potential part-exchange - apparently Chelsea think Gallagher is worth what West Ham bid and Brighton disagree. Chelsea aren't actively looking to offload Gallagher but would be willing to if it limits Brighton's financial obligations to Independiente del Valle.
I guess this lends credence to the Gallagher stuff?

Interesting one. Chelsea are very thin in central midfield, this would seem to be an option rather than the option they seem to need to break into the top ten again. But who knows, he might go straight into the team and be a gem.
Yeah he is a far easier fit into Poch's system than Gallagher is you'd think, at least on paper.
I don't why it must be one or the other to be honest. Gallagher is an excellent rotational option. He's very low maintenance and wants to be here. Also what does signing Tyler Adams mean for Santos?
Think Santos is going on loan one way or another.
Not sure if there's something going on contract-wise with Gallagher - I believe he has 2 years left so if he's dragging his feet on an extension that would also explain it?

Reports are that Chelsea have offered £90m as expected.
Thats just one of so many questions. How many players do you need
How many players do you need
Quite a few players left and also some of the players you have listed wont join/be part of the squad this season.Thats just one of so many questions.
complaint was they had too many players for the squad to settle and they go and sign
Sanchez £25m
Disasi £38m
Ugochukwu £23
Gabriel £13
Paez £17
Nkunku £52
Jackson £32
not including being linked with caicedo and Jackson now too.
Where is all this money coming from / ffp
the worst part is why on earth are players wanting to come when their squad is already so bloated they they can’t register everyone and still go and sign 9 more
Because they’ve made far more money from player sales, as usual. That’s helps a lot. If only we could learn from that.Thats just one of so many questions.

Also have you listed Jackson twice?
We've lost 5 midfielders from last season. So far we've added Ugochukwu who is going straight out on loan and we've brought Santos back from loan. That's literally it. The only other midfielders are Enzo and Gallagher. Would you say that is enough? Enzo, Gallagher and Santos?
It just looks non-stop from the outside. Also very noticeable that you're stockpiling youth and paying decent fees for some. Has a very 'throw a lot of shit at the wall and some will stick' feel to it.
Since last summer:
Wesley Fofana
Marc Cucurella
Raheem Sterling
Kalidou Koulibaly
Carney Chukwuemeka
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
Joao Felix
Gabriel Slonina
Denis Zakaria
David Datro Fofana
Benoît Badiashile
Andrey Santos
Mykhailo Mudryk
Noni Madueke
Malo Gusto
Enzo Fernández
Christopher Nkunku
Axel Disasi
Nicolas Jackson
Lesley Ugochukwu
Robert Sánchez
Ângelo
Diego Moreira
Moises Caicedo?
Tyler Adams?
Deivid Washington?
I genuinely think that's the size of a whole PL squad.
You've reliably bid for Elye Wahi, interest in Olise, Vlahovic? Like it's just relentless. Forgive me if my heart doesn't bleed for the fact that you're lacking in the midfield area.
No one is asking for your sympathy. I'm just saying based on the first team midfielders we've let go, those were the ones we had left, so despite all the spending elsewhere, the midfield needs reinforcement. It was a fair question to lob back at you.
You listed 22 players, two of which were loan players that are no longer here, and two other players already sold. So 18 players (some of whom are young players not signed immediately for the first team), compare that with 14 players we've let go (or will let go), it's more of a crazy squad overhaul than just endless spending the way you tried to frame it.
He will be a Chelsea player soon unfortunately
That's mental in itself imo.
Just saying how it looks to almost everyone else. I'm sure if you weren't a Chelsea fan you'd be a bit baffled too.
Be interesting to see if we get our £100m+ deal or settle for £90-95m. Really don’t want to lose him either way!
It is mental, it's a completely crazy unprecedented squad overhaul. I wouldn't have even responded if you had said that or I would have and backed you up in agreement. It was the 'how many players do they need ' that I wanted to add a bit more context and nuance to
What he does is pretty much irrelevant as he's bound by contract and he'll not cut off his nose to spite his face if the window closes and he's still a BHA player.
Still think this gets done, regardless as you're getting antsy now the season is upon us and will pay the asking.
