Crikey, I leave for a few days and without gate keeping with facts and balance, nonsense and hyperbole just repeats. The poster above says £40-£50m would be “fair”. What the poster means is, as a fan of the club trying to buy the player, he’d like to pay no more than £40-£50m. What it doesn’t take into account is whether Manchester United would pay that, or more importantly, whether Brighton & Hove Albion would accept it. I suspect the latter is the bigger problem.
Can I just clarify something else, because as usual excitement breeds misinformation. At no point has Moises Caicedo ever said he is a “massive Manchester United fan”.
Here’s what did say;
“My dream is to play for Manchester United. Antonio Valencia is an example to follow. With his strength and dedication, he was able to get to that level. That motivates me to keep working hard and do the right things.”
He wants to follow in the footsteps of his hero, the greatest Ecuadorean footballer to play in the PL. He also says he didn’t watch a lot of football growing up, he mainly played on the PlayStation.
Everyone is available, in any club in the world, selling to any other club in the world. Regardless of age, experience, ability, loyalty or any other criteria. If the money is right.
Unfortunately in these cases, as with Caicedo, White, Cucurella it is Brighton - not Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool or Chelsea (or their supporters) who decide what the “right” price is.
It is the selling club, Brighton, in particular their billionaire chairman Tony Bloom, who decides.
I really, really hope that has helped some of you. It is good form to look outside of one’s own club and keeper a broader eye on the wider footballing world.
