Mo Salah | Signs 2 year deal with Liverpool

He only has 18 PL goals in 31 games if you deduct the 9 penalties he has scored.

They more than likely won't be awarded as many penalties next season, which has saved Liverpools skin on many occasions this season.

He has dropped off in form lately, and is only getting older.

Only 18? Still a lot. Haaland has 19 from open play, Isak 18, Wood 15.

Then there's 17 assists, more than anyone in the league by a long way. He's doing great.

Drop offs can happen I suppose and you can't always rely on pens, numbers go up and down. Either way he's been fantastic without them and I wouldn't want to hazard a guess as to how many they'd get next season.

- City have had 3 after 10 in each of the previous 2 seasons.
- Arsenal 2 after 10 last year, 4 the season before. All over the place.
- Chelsea 4 after 12 and 3.
- Liverpool 9 last season, 4 the season before.

Would normally say the number of pens are loosely based on attacking threat/pressure, but it's not a strict correlation. Sometimes it's just luck or variance. Chelsea were good but not great going forward last season when they got so many, Andy Johnson used to get loads in not the best attacking teams. The type of attacks, stretching teams on the counter so that you force them into last ditch tackles can sometimes get you a lot of pens, or being good at insitgating fouls, outright diving or having tricky dribblers.

Pens are down this season in general for some reason. On course for for about 81 if the current rate keeps up (66 so far) when there were 107 last season. No idea why.

You've already had a couple of United fans respond to me saying they have thought the same.

Another weird swipe.
The general view of him on this board, which is your biggest rival's forum, is that he's an all-time PL great and an annoyingly incredible player. Using "people have been saying" cos of a couple of nutjobs who don't realise how valuable he is to you guy is weird.

Great news and will be even better when the other pillar of the team signs. Hopefully energizes the team to end this title race early.

Disappointing yet almost inevitable. Well, hopefully the long-awaited decline happens swiftly and they're going to be stuck with an overpaid aging star for two years... right? Right?

Van Dijk will probably extend his one as well and Liverpool are going to be the favourites next year even if nothing drastic happens with City (although maybe Arsenal will finally step up).

It's being reported now that VVD also agreed to sign a new contract. Oh, well...

I agree with your take. They're possibly betting on Pep needing more time to get his next iteration of City going and Arsenal not taking the final step just yet, hoping that they'll be able to add some trophies in the short-term.

We'll see. I'd hate to see them overtaking us in PL titles.

Salah is still an amazing player, and I wish we had him.
He's got another couple of seasons in him, but Liverpool need to be looking for a replacement. And, more urgently, for VvD.

He will have to be periodically rested during certain league games, even when he is match fit and raring to go, and even if it annoys him.

When CRonaldo was about the same age as, or maybe even a year younger than, Salah is now, Zidane would rest him during La Liga games every now and again, and sometimes he wouldn’t even travel to the stadium for away games that he missed .

What is this nonsense? He's played practically every game this year. If the man wants to play he plays. And they certainly aren't having their highest paid (and best) player sat on the bench

It will be interesting in regards to Liverpool as though Salah and VVD stay, it could be a big shift in terms of personnel. There could be 4 or 5 different starters from keeper to attack.

It's not nonsense, it's a good point. There's a reason Salah tailed off towards the end of the season (especially in the Champions League).

Insane the criticism Salah gets here compared to haaland.

It's definitely not nonsense, it's not the first season that his form has dipped from March onwards. I get that he wants to play every game when he's chasing records but there's no point having him on the field for 90' in games like Southampton or Leicester at home, or other games which we can win comfortably without him. Especially if it means that he can keep up his own form for an entire season.

Nailed on favorites for the title next season.
I think Arsenal are favorites. City and ourselves need more work on our squads than they do.

Glad he's staying. His fitness levels make me think he still has a couple more years playing at a high level. Van Dijk was the more important one but Losing Salah and TAA in one window would've been a bit much.

We do need to plan ahead though and think about life after VVD and Salah. It's coming.

I think Slot will be quicker with the hook next season and with lessening Salah’s workload. At this point in his career Salah probably won’t be against resting like in seasons past which is going to keep him fresher and the team stronger.

There is literally zero evidence of Salah wanting to be rested. The amount of pointless matches he played in this season is bordering on absurd.

Erling has been trashed to oblivion in the Forum.

Regarding Mo, even if he declines, it's really important to have a mature Legend to help with the burden of younger players or new purchases if like it's rumoured Jota, Darwin and even maybe Diaz (or at least one of them) might possible go.

I think two of those three go (maybe even all three of them).

I’m very upset that he’s signed a new contract. Don’t look forward to him tearing us new arseholes next season as per usual.

The most annoying thing is that Liverpool will still be able to sell him for £100m+ two years down the line. They really struck gold with him.

Should’ve just let Plop sign that other German fella that he reportedly wanted over Salah.

Jota seems really useful squad player to me. Think he leaves for playing time?

For me, he was mostly really really bad in this last stage of the season when he came as a sub or even first team.

Of course being always second (or even third choice) at some point messes with your fitness and confidence, yet he was way more reliable for instance last season as a super sub.

And I'm not talking about just goals, he looked quite rushed and off in his decision making comparing with himself in the past where he mostly was hard working and had an eye for the goal or some smart play.

Slot seems to rare him highly. A lot higher than I do anyway.

He's a pretty shit squad player in all areas except he's not on big wages. If you play him into form he'll do a good job as first choice. Then he'll get injured and be either injured or out form for another few months.

Had 1 very good season for us but other than just contributes in patches of the season.

I'd probably keep him over the other two rumoured exits but only because no one is stupid enough to pay silly money for someone with his injury record.

I choose to believe this will be seen as a massive mistake in 2 years time, similiarily to how obvious it is now that Gundogan and Walker should have left us for good after the treble, but difficult to not anknowledge that you really can't avoid trying to keep him when he has delivered like this

Any rumours of who are you probably buying?
There are links with Isak but I don't see that as realistic. Huge fee and Newcastle don't seem like they're financially required to sell. If they get CL it's definitely a non-starter.

We will sign a striker though. Delap, Etitike & Osimhen have been linked but nothing concrete.

I think we need a left winger as well but haven't heard much in terms of being linked with anyone.

LB is a certainty and I think we'll get Kerkez from Bournemouth. RB we probably need someone. I'm not convinced Bradley is good enough to start every week.

We could do with something else in midfield as well, and a CB. Quansah needs to be moved on and Gomez/Konate are both guaranteed to get injured at some point during a season.

We need a lot and I doubt we'll get everything in one window.

He's injured all the time. We only get a few months out of him normally before he breaks down again, and his form has tanked since coming back from his most recent one.

He is a decent goal scorer but not good enough to keep around. He's not a 20 goal striker.

Fair enough. I only ever see him when he pops up in highlights but don't notice the games he's not available for.
