He only has 18 PL goals in 31 games if you deduct the 9 penalties he has scored.
They more than likely won't be awarded as many penalties next season, which has saved Liverpools skin on many occasions this season.
He has dropped off in form lately, and is only getting older.
Only 18? Still a lot. Haaland has 19 from open play, Isak 18, Wood 15.
Then there's 17 assists, more than anyone in the league by a long way. He's doing great.
Why?
Drop offs can happen I suppose and you can't always rely on pens, numbers go up and down. Either way he's been fantastic without them and I wouldn't want to hazard a guess as to how many they'd get next season.
- City have had 3 after 10 in each of the previous 2 seasons.
- Arsenal 2 after 10 last year, 4 the season before. All over the place.
- Chelsea 4 after 12 and 3.
- Liverpool 9 last season, 4 the season before.
Would normally say the number of pens are loosely based on attacking threat/pressure, but it's not a strict correlation. Sometimes it's just luck or variance. Chelsea were good but not great going forward last season when they got so many, Andy Johnson used to get loads in not the best attacking teams. The type of attacks, stretching teams on the counter so that you force them into last ditch tackles can sometimes get you a lot of pens, or being good at insitgating fouls, outright diving or having tricky dribblers.
Pens are down this season in general for some reason. On course for for about 81 if the current rate keeps up (66 so far) when there were 107 last season. No idea why.
