MLB 2017

Approaching the half way point and the All-Star break is coming up. The Yankees and Red Sox are neck and neck in the AL East, a down to the wire battle between the two would be just what MLB would love to see. The Houston Astros appear to be the class of the American League, while the LA Dodgers with a 10 game winning streak edge the Arizona Diamondbacks for the best record in the NL.

Aaron Judge is leading the three offensive categories that make up the Triple Crown, can he hold on? Cody Bellinger is riding a hot streak with 6 multiple home run games this season.

Defending champs the Cubs are limping along, still in the race but only one game over .500. The Cardinals need a quick turn around, only 5 games out of first, but not looking good at all.

Defending AL champs the Indians are fighting the Twins for first place in the Central.

Going to be an interesting summer.

Should I learn Sabermetrics or just enjoy the spectacle?

And what people think about Judge?

We saw this 27 years ago - Kevin Maas. That aside, Judge looks the real deal and unlike Maas has shown power to all areas not just a pull hitter. Judge is a much better overall hitter as well. I liken Judge to McGwire in his rookie year. Big bodied sluggers though Judge is a better hitter overall.

If you are interested in sabermetric, I have been on a site for donkey's year called sonsofsamhorn.

And, Judge seems to be the real deal, all 6 foot 7, 285 pounds of him.

Dodgers are in amazing form. Just feels like it's gonna be our year with all the come from behind wins and someone new stepping up to be the hero every night. One thing that worries me though is that our 2nd half of the season is fairly away heavy.

Thanks, I will check it and .

This line of thinking sounds familiar. Not the same sport but have heard this thinking from somewhere in England, northwest area near the sea I think.

Ffs, I'm hopeful not delusional. Most people remind me that it's a long season when I say that it could be our year. I'm sure Cubs fans were thinking the same thing last season.

AL won the All-Star game, just a nice mid-season exhibition now, so no big deal really. To kick off the post All-Star Break run to the end of the season we have the Yankees and Red Sox squaring off, if either team can sweep the series it will change the AL East race!

We all know Sammy - and I remember the stories of him wanting to be less black...but

Oh if the Sox can sweep

The 20/20 Club. Win 20 games one season, lose 20 the next

http://www.espn.com/blog/boston/red...lo-and-the-2020-club-no-pitcher-wants-to-join

20/20 vision
In the past 60 years, seven pitchers have lost 20 games one season after winning 20. A look at the club nobody wants to join.

Jerry Koosman
1976 Mets 21-10 2.69 ERA
1977 Mets 8-20 3.49 ERA

Wilbur Wood
1974 White Sox 20-19 3.60 ERA
1975 White Sox 16-20 4.11 ERA

Steve Carlton
1972 Phillies 27-10 1.97 ERA
1973 Phillies 13-20 3.90 ERA

Stan Bahnsen
1972 White Sox 21-16 3.60 ERA
1973 White Sox 18-21 3.57 ERA

Luis Tiant
1968 Indians 21-9 1.60 ERA
1969 Indians 9-20 3.71 ERA

Mel Stottlemyre
1965 Yankees 20-9 2.63 ERA
1966 Yankees 12-20 3.80 ERA

Larry Jackson
1964 Cubs 24-11 3.14 ERA
1965 Cubs 14-21 3.85 ERA

I don't see how pitchers did that back then, pitching 40+ starts and 300+ innings. I presume they weren't routinely throwing 90mph+ with wicked deliveries and movement.

From whatever little baseball I had watched, never seen anyone dominating hitter as Cliff lee does.

Red Sox are smashing the Yankee faces into the dirt.
Severino started to get cute with his pitches way too early and then Benintendi punished him. If the teams meet in the postseason, I still like the Yankees even though the starting pitching is a mess.

Hope we get a Yankees-Red Sox series these playoffs. Always great to hear the "let's go Yankees" at Fenway.

Cliff Lee is won of those weird cases where for a span of about 5 years starting in 2008 he was as filthy and dominant as could be. He had a few seasons with a sub-3 ERA and was nasty as sin in the postseason. Interestingly enough, he was moved around a lot during that span: CLE - PHL - SEA - TEX - PHL. He was always a commodity talked about at the deadline. Strangely, he never won a World Series either. One of the best short term runs a pitcher has had.

And just to get this in: the perceived East-coast bias in American sports is real. The Dodgers are having an unbelievable season and I've heard so little about it. They hit the cover off the ball, pitch lights out, and the bullpen is dirty. And what's up with Alex Wood? He's almost as great as Kershaw this season.

There will be plenty of coverage of the Dodgers once they do their annual choke job in the postseason.

Miggy sized him up real good:drool:

That was damn beautiful. There was definitely some animosity building up during the last few days because for everyone to be in on it like that was a rarity. Robertson sprinting in from the bullpen was epic - usually those guys just take their time. And all the side squabbles, jeez, it was perfect. At the very end you can see two Yankees holding down who I believe is Castellanos. Gardner was looking to scrap, too.

I'm just glad the Yankees won the series, maybe the Tigers will feel this fight can get them the energy they need to get back in the hunt?

Starting September holding a 4.5 game lead. Would be great for the Sox to head into the postseason with the AL East pennant

Was it Sanchez punching an opposition player while that player was down scuffling with others? Bush league shit and rightfully suspended. He deserves to get beaned in the back next time up (but they don't play the Tigers again this season).

Imagine a hockey player doing that - he'd get his ass handed to him quickly.

Really wish I was at the stadium right now. Yankees destroying Sale and the Sox pen tonight. Pennant race seemingly going down to the wire.
