Next game in 45 min.
Is Sam Murray not in the squad for this tourney then? Was supposed to be the top rated U15 we signed from Huddersfield (left sided CB I think).

He's U14 and 2004 born I think. There are only 2 2004s in the squad (Shoretire and Ibrahim who looks really good so far) and except for Polakowski the rest of the squad are U15s. Fregapane number 5 is another one we signed from Huddersfield who's also a CB and played for England.

Manchester United's second-year professionals, the older members of the Under-18 squad, have been training with the Reserves ahead of Monday's return to action in Premier League 2.

Ricky Sbragia's side take on West Ham United at Leigh Sports Village, live on MUTV (kick-off 19:00 GMT), and there has been a concerted effort to integrate some of Kieran McKenna's teenagers with the more experienced group.

Nicky Butt, the club's Head of Academy, has already explained how he expects Angel Gomes (pictured) to push on and compete for a spot at Under-23 level this year after signing his first professional contract, and Under-18s coach McKenna has revealed there is an overall shift in emphasis in the second half of the season.

"It's something very much in our minds in the second half of the year," McKenna told MUTV. "We want the second years to be exposed to that training and hoping to push for opportunities in the Under-23s. It's a goal for them in the first week back after Christmas.

"The Under-23s will have a bigger group and it's a little taster of that environment for the younger boys. It's up to them to make an impression that helps them when they get integrated into that group in the second half of the campaign, going into next year.

"We speak to the players about it and tell them that, in Academy football, you get two chances to reboot the computer and refocus. One is at the end of a season and the other one is midway through, as we're lucky enough to get a winter break at our level. They're all going through the process of looking back at the first half of the season and what they did well, and identifying where they want to get better. We've identified some areas where they're looking to kick on now.

"It's an important period of reflection. In the first team, we don't get the chance to stop until the end of the season but our young players, and staff as well, can take stock halfway through and reflect where they're at and where we want them to get to next. We're laying down a programme and some goals for the second half of the campaign."

Hopefully bit of a clear out at U23 level so that we can play more U18 there, this season.

View for permanent maybe? Second year in the u23s and he hasn't really featured that much. Would be very strange for a Championship team fighting for promotion to loan a player who struggles to make our u23s.
?

He's been U23s regular recently.

But more likely to be a permanent move yes.

Riley is likely to be out on loan next.

Recently which has been only 5 games, I actually missed one and thought it was only 4. Even still, not really enough to call him a regular starter. I meant the two seasons combined which I may have worded poorly. Last season he'd get little runs of games and this season he has had a run recently but still much more a backup player than a regular starter over the whole time.

My point either way is it would odd for a Championship team to loan an u23s player who only makes the team about half the time when you see actual top u23s players go on loan to the Championship and not get played.

Sometimes with young players they might know they will not get a new contract renewal so the club tries to find a new club for them and they might trial at a few places. This could be what is happening with Scott. Obviously we have been in touch with Sheff Utd recently re Wilson so maybe the club encouraged them to try him out.

Our higher ceiling players should really be playing. Buffonge is the baffling one, can't quite understand why he's been on the bench.

First rumour about a foreign player possibly joining us in the summer. Looks like we're competing with City for this one.

Who do you think a youth player in this situation would likely pick?

City would be my guess.
That's my thinking which is a shame; bias aside, we have 3 academy products in the first team and 1 or 2 floating around the bench. Surely youth players should be looking at United over City just on the basis of first team opportunities.

You'd like to think it'd work like that, but along with the money, they have one of the most known academies now with all the media hype.
