Heard a story today that apparently we have Eddie Gray's grandson in the U8's or 9's ? Bit of a prodigy by all accounts but these things can get distorted.

Anyone know the scoop on this ?

I agree. It's ultimately about development and not results. Parents and old school football fans are part of the problem.

Years ago I suggested that kids games should all end with a penalty shootout for bonus goals and my mates looked at me like I was mental. They'll be bitching when we lose penalty shootouts again.

I like the mixed team rule. Some of those 20-0 30-0 scoreline at that level is ridiculous and unhealthy for development. Plus require the kids to adapt quickly to their new teammates/new situations.

Not sure about bonus goals but you could run a parallel league or something for the penalty shootouts.

If you listen to the Ajax and La Masia coaches they don't agree with penalties or throw ins at junior level and want the whole games to be entirely open play football, even if they have to be shorter in duration. Football purists and tbf I'd agree with that line of thought, it's something that could really force change in the old school English mentality for the better.
 
those rules work, we use most of them especially the powerplay when 4 up, but I don't like

-No instructions rule
Coaches may ask questions that prompt players to think for themselves but must not shout instructions during matches. [Law 1]

Explaining to a child where he could be on the pitch is a good thing, it's not constant shouting, it's explaining whilst the match is going on. My kid loves to defend (under 7's) so hardly ever goes forward but is a decent passer so would just tackle and pass, the coach has now got him tackling then driving into space and his confidence on the ball has soared
 
Apparently City have signed ours best U15 Alex Robertson according to a person called esteemed kompany on twitter.

He wasn't contracted to us so that allowed City to sign him anyway there's a MEN Article over it.

I'm not sure if he's our best prospect but let's ask @jb8521 @khoazany

That’s the bit I’m confused about. Didn’t think you could offer a contract to someone that young? I’ll await the input of people who know a lot more about this than me.

From what I've seen of them I'd have at least 4/5 of the lads in the same age group ahead of him. We signed 4 lads that had been playing with them in similar circumstances in the past year but the reactions are always the same, if we sign someone it's because they didn't want them anyway but if they sign someone it's always claimed he was the best in his age group.

That young that are not on proper contracts and there are no wages paid.

They are children...it is illegal.

When they reach U/16 level they MAY be offered a scholarship. If they accept it is a legally binding agreement and if another club approaches then a fee may be involved.

When a player signs a scholarship I think they get something like £150 a week because they are basically apprentices although still in the school system.

Any kids under the scholarship age are on one-year rolling contracts (not legally binding by law) which expire at the end of each season. A player can move on after that season. I believe Robertson may have done that.

What about the inducements that City offer like paid for education at St Bedes (£11k a year) are they allowed to walk away from City at the end of a year and keep those benefits?

According to the rules of the Elite Player Performance Plan they can sign 2 year deals at u13 and u15 level but only 1 year deals at u12, u14 and u16

A player can only move at the end of the season in a very small window of a couple of weeks plus a cooling off period of a week or so, the players sign an initial contract, the club then inform them every year if they are to be retained for a further season. Robertson must not have been offered a deal and was technically still classed as a grass routes player and therefore deemed fair game.

Not sure what specifics are with guaranteed education.

I guess they will have some type of clause but wouldn't want the bad publicity of throwing a kid out of school because they moved on.

Yep...clubs offer different deals to different players.

However, these are FA based contracts and not legal contracts that can be upheld in a court of law.

The parents sign them rather than the kids and if someone leaves within their current year the FA won't allow then to sign for another club.

If the kid has been somewhere for a certain amount of time then they MAY be entitled for compensation.

United tend not to ask clubs for compensation because they lose most kids that aren't good enough and are happy for them to find other clubs.

Absolutely! But they are FA contracts not legal contracts.

I know of at least a couple of kids that are now at other North West academies but still have their education paid for by City.

As soon as the contract is signed the club hold the players registration and are entitled to compensation, the amount is set in the EPPP and the value depends on the catagory of the academy, I think Cat 1's are around 5k per year from U9 jumping to around 35k at U12. The club have two realease forms, again set out in the EPPP, one with compensation one without, If a player try's to engineer a move against the clubs wishes, they will demand compensation, I'm not aware of anyone challenging this in a court of law.
 
Another cracking name. Gone are the days of John, Sam, Ryan etc. Roll on Rocco, Sonny and my absolute favorite of all time, Nortay Nortey (spelling?).
