Miscellaneous Reserve/Youth News

I'm hearing Greenwood is going to Austria - not certain how much he's going to play with the 18s this season. But that's a nice statement of intent.

Tbh he's looked too good at times for the level he's been playing at so it'd be nice for him to get some time with the U18s.

Is Dishon Bernad signed? If i am not wrong he plays as a midfielder. We already have loads in that position with many promoted from U16 as well. Can someone give an insight on this one @jb8521

Will the reserve games be played at Leigh again this season?

Will James Wilson go on the pre-season tour? As it stands he will be required..

Anyone know how long we expect to wait for Puigmal' international clearance?

Why has he included Bohui and Boonen when they are too old for u18s? And he says Burkhart banging goals in for the u16s, was he watching Zurich u16s?
There was some confusion regarding the cut off date to be eligible for U18s, @khoazany and he were having a discussion regarding the same. As Howson said he got the info from the players.

Oh was there? Have there been changes or why is there confusion, wouldn't it just be the same as every year? It'd be strange to get info that Bohui and Boonen are eligible seen as they are born in March and January so not even near the cut off date. Strange, where was the discussion if you don't mind.

Edit: Read it on twitter.

I'm not really in favour of this holding the players back as well. The likes of O'Connor and Gomes shouldn't be wasting their time playing down a level to keep a group together.

He played mainly as a cb when he was on trial with us so I presume that's where we see him playing

His running power and acceleration look extremely impressive for a cm, in 1 of the other videos from that game he outruns Greenwood and Laird who are both extremely quick

I'm hoping we do well in the UEFA Youth League. We have been poor in it in the past.

At least we should have the depth to do well in it this year, the past couple of times we've been in it we've had a decent first 11 but when we got 1 or 2 injuries or suspensions the drop in quality was a big one. This year we should have a squad of around 35 players to choose from with even the backup players at a fairly high level

Definitely has fantastic acceleration from what I saw. His touch and technique seems to be top notch aswell. Think we have a gem on our hands in this lad.

Yeah, I think McKenna will set them up to be tactically sound while maintaining an attractive style of play.

Even if this season is a learning curve for most, pretty much the same group of players will be able to go again next season if we qualify.

MANCHESTER UNITED are in pole position to land Bolton teenage sensation Max Broughton.

The midfielder is also being chased by Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City after impressing for the Trotters and England at youth level.

SunSport have been told the 16-year-old is nearing a move to Manchester United due to the newly promoted Championship side’s close working relationship the Reds.

Club owners Ken Anderson and his son Lee are former agents and still have a good working relationship with the Old Trafford hierarchy.

United Academy boss Nicky Butt has been playing catch-up since taking over the role and this summer has drafted in a host of youngsters into the Carrington set-up.

United are prepared to pay £1million plus add-ons for Broughton to head off competition from other Premier League suitors.

There's a training game on Friday at Carrington v Altrincham. I'm trying to get in. But not looking likely at the moment...

Cheers. There will be lot of competition in U18 side which will be very good. I have high hopes that some of them will step up to our first team in few years time. In saying that when i see Chelsea sometimes i get my expectations down a bit. Chelsea seemed to signed almost all the best talented players around and racking up FA youth cups too in last few years yet anybody hardly featured in their first team except for couple maybe.

But the scouts we have signed in last few years I hope we will produce at least one star player from our youth academy(from this age group. C. Gribbin hopefully can be our d.silva).

Most of their best English talents were at the club since a very young age so that would be a credit for their underage coaching.

Technically a back four of Tanner - O'Connor - Garner - Laird sounds very good on paper but think we'll play Tanner - O'Connor - Dunne - Spratt or Tanner - Ercolani - Dunne - Spratt (if O'Connor steps up) as first choices in the league which sounds a bit vulnerable.

Seems we got him for 1m. 16yr old midfielder. Loads of midfielders.

How are we gonna play all of them is the question (if we get Broughton which I doubt it). We only have 22 U18s league games this season as well.

I wonder if we have some plans on doing a feeder club system in the pipeline. Makes sense to have that big a squad of youngsters if we are planning to loan out many of the older players

Why is that? Have they just scrapped the second stage?

Has anyone heard anymore of that rumours of us buying a club? I really wanted it to be true but haven't heard anything since that initial rumour.

They scrapped the elite stage so now winner of the North group will face winner of the South group in the final.

I feel O'Connor is wasted at centre back but wherever he plays he does well. Hope he doesn't become a victim of his own versatility.
Would prefer to see him at right back.

Was disappointed not to see Gribbin involved like Gomes was at the end of the season. Attitude maybe? I know its been an issue. Perhaps they think its a way to keep his ego down and keep him hungry for next season.

Hitc reporting that Regan Poole will go on loan to Northampton Town. Will be interesting to see who gets loaned out and who is kept at the club now that Jose has had a chance to see them all.

The best players need to be playing against each other regularly. That's a stupid decision to scrap it. Any idea on the reasoning behind it?
