Miscellaneous Reserve/Youth News

As much as I like Hannibal, I fear his temper could be the end of his career at the highest level. I do understand he reacts to some of the fouls, the problem is he reacts to the majority of the fouls - most of them are just that...simple fouls.
 
I'm watching the re-run of our 3-0 win against Everton on MUTV, and we've played well in the first half and Hannibal and Fernandez have looked good linking up on the left. Hannibal is playing off the left flank and has probably been the best player in the first half imo. It's goaless at the break.

Encouraging to hear. Two players who I am excited to see integrated into the first team squad.
 
It makes me laugh that there are always post when the youth teams do well, however when we lose there’s hardly a mention, the truth is, like the the first team we are bang average.
 
Full-time United 3-0 Everton

We played well as a collective and were much improved from our last outing against Leeds. Hannibal was very good and was pulling the strings throughout the game and was the MOTM imo.

Fernandes and Garnacho also played well and we throughly deserved our victory.

Are you saying the whole U18 team is average or the team is average with some talented individuals?

What a strange comment. Unlike the first-team, at this level we play without several of our best players frequently, we have players on-loan, players who play on higher levels (U18s moved to reserves, reserves move to first team), and we swap to give everyone time. In addition we dont have a lot of players who win because they are physical and strong, most of our players are smaller and good on the ball. But unlike most other seasons, when we have fielded our strongest side - we have done exceptionally well. We out-played Dortmund and should have won, and we have quite easily reached the FA Youth Cup final

Defensively this team isnt great - but to call Fernandes, Garnacho, Hansen-Aaroen, Iqbal, Shoretire, Jurado, McNeill, Hugill, Hannibal, Savage etc bang average, now that is a very strange comment.
 
Also most importantly the essence of youth football is player development rather than just focussing on winning. Yeah the odd youth cup would be nice but more would much rather have a team that plays well with a system rather than just focusses on winning matches

I really rated Bjorn about a year or so ago in 18's, fast, left footed and looked great on the ball but stepping up he hasn't gone so well. I read a year ago an old coach who rated him big time so hoping Hardley still can progress and make a squad in the future. Only just 19 and 1.89 metres tall so hopefully we can make a gem out of him. Big hopes for Vitek too.
 
Has the youth cup final date been set yet? Any info on tickets greatly appreciated, cheers.
 
For those who missed it...a group of 20 players travelled to Scotland last weekend for a series of games.

The group was a mix of U/16's and U/15's and played in three games on Saturday at Oriam Sports Complex and two games against St. Johnstone at McDiarmid Park on Sunday.

The Saturday games were as follows

Manchester United 4 v Dundee 2 (Scanlon 2, Kaba, Curley)
Manchester United 0 v Aberdeen 2
Manchester United 5 v Hibernian 0 (Thwaites, Ibragimov 2, Lacey, Kaba)

The Sunday games

Manchester United 0 v St. Johnstone 2
Manchester United 3 v St. Johnstone 3 (Lacey, Musa 2)

They were all 30 mins each way except the Aberdeen game which was 20 mins each way.

Do you know anything about Musa and Curley? They always seem to be on the scoresheet when the results are reported.

Firstly, when I watched at Carrington in the 2019/20 season, the U/16's were players who are now in the U/18's and even U/23's. So, two seasons later I have never seen the current U/15's or U16's live. In fact I have only seen the U/18's live in a handful of FA Youth matches...so anything I say is based on clips from social media and the odd streamed game like the Northern Ireland Milk Cup.

Apart from parents and coaches, no fans have been allowed back into Academies to watch any games at all.

Musa is a tall striker who can also play out wide. He looks technically quite good and is quick but I wouldn't say he is particularly prolific in terms of goalscoring. My records show he hasn't scored that many at all for the 16's when he has played.

In terms of Curley, he has been out injured for quite a while and only returned to action in December. He has played in most games for the U/16's since in the #8 role. Again it's hard to tell without watching players live but I know he is rated. Finley McAllister, James Nolan and Louis Jackson seem to be the standouts in that group but Curley seems to be pushing into that group.

Curley always been one of most talented in that age group and comfortably in that group you mention 100% but long injuries need time to come back from.
 
Curly came on as a sub against Sunderland - it should also be mentioned that him and McAllister are a year younger than Jackson and Nolan
 
McAllister is born june 06, Curly september 06, Jackson is born september 05 and Nolan october 05.....in my opinion that is about a year younger

Curley is a 2005. Only McAllister Missin Wheatley Berry are 06s from that group (that weren’t released).
 
If that is correct I apologize...but those were not the dates listed online
 
The point is....unless you are a coach or a parent...you haven't seen these players play for 2-3 years. So making judgement calls about their development, skill, capability, is pure guess work.
