Miscellaneous Reserve/Youth News

Isn't Garnacho a striker? That's a mad attacking U23 team if so! Like a classic Fergie team in the last 20 mins :D

We are stacking talents right now, can we give them all enough playing time..?

Cream rises to the top, so the better players will get plenty of playing time, some of the lads coming from abroad will need time to settle in.

Well with Hoogewerf playing in that reserve-game - he probably wont play tonight

I think Pye is not eligible as he was not with us last year. If he were eligible, so would Fernandez be and he would play.

I think it will be something like:

Mastny

Bejger
Mengi
Fish
Devine

McCann
Helm
Mejbri

Elanga
Emeran
Shoretire

Possible Svidersky will be LB as others have mentioned.

This was close but Svidersky in for Emeran, playing in midfield but with Helm in a more advanced position. Generally a strong team but maybe lacking a clinical finisher? We will see.

What is Woolston still doing here? He's 22 and the third choice in the reserves.

He isn't involved (Mastny starts, Mee on bench) so don't know what you mean.

Are you referring to the Under 23s match?

I mean why do we keep him in the squad when there's no perspective for him with us.

Because we need keepers to train. Why do you even care?

He’s been injured for the majority of the past 10 months anyway.
I don't really care that much, just found it strange we have a player in the reserves 4 years older than others. And he doesn't play.

If I remember correctly, we signed Woolston as cover when a lot of keepers were injured or on loan. I agree that it's not really necessary right now, but he has a Sadiq El Fitouri role.

Shame that Kovar seems to have lost his place at Swindon. Didn't get great ratings so far and hasn't played the last 2 matches.

A disappointment so far. His shot-stopping hasn't been up to his usual standard. Of course, it's hard being a young GK in front of a defense who is rather shite. As a loan player, it will be very hard getting his spot back.

He's been really poor apparently so not a surprise. Their fans haven't been very complimentary.

Seems to have borne the brunt of the flak from their fans for them (and their defence in particular) just not being very good. Change in manager has really gone against him as well. Shows the perils of the loan system I guess - hopefully get him back here in January if the situation persists and try and rebuild his confidence either with us or another move.

That’s how it always is with loan players, it’s also why fan opinions should be taken with a huge pinch of salt. If things are going bad it’s always the loan players blamed first.

Some lower league fans just hate all loan players before they even kick a ball, they’ve also got a huge inferiority complex and hate anything to do with United.

Loan club fans used to call Harry Kane shit and all sorts. I remember Ben Pearson used to range from the best player in League One to non-league level based on which poster was saying it when at Barnsley because some fans just refuse to admit that a Manchester United player is better than their local lad.

Can confirm. Millwall fans always knew he was talented, but a lot of fans thought he was a moron (myself included when watching him), because he'd just constantly shoot from ridiculous positions like a Sunday league player.

Kane is a freak player to be fair. There was never much (if any) indication as a junior that he'd even be a premier league striker, let alone one of the best number 9s in the world. I remember watching him for England U21s matches thinking he'd have a decent career in the Championship. It seems to be more prevalent with strikers/number 9s where the skills and aptitude are less inherent and can be learned more easily. Vardy being another example.

What players like Scholes and other world class playmakers do can't be taught really, those kind of brains are genetic.

To be fair, the fact that Kane was in the England youth teams should've been a big indicator he was fairly well regarded, at least by those who mattered.

To those that are bothered, i'm hearing Chris Popov has left the club.
Owen Hampson & Marshall Burke were also told they weren't being offered scholarships in the first round of players released, both have been on trial with Blackburn in the last couple of weeks

10 in total, I’m told

People forget that Kane had two very successful loan spells at Leyton Orient and Millwall aged 17 and 18. Not easy up against men at that age.

I'm not so sure, at Millwall he had a penchant for the absolutely spectacular. Just happened very infrequently and was dotted in between some erratic decisions. It's all about honing consistency with those players. As you state, Scholes and the like react quicker and just read the game faster. Kane is now more consistent in everything from touch, passing and striking with both feet. Same with Vardy, his finishing is now far more clinical than it ever was earlier in his career. A lot of players never develop that level of consistency in their game.

The U/17's drew 2-2 with Fleetwood Town in a friendly at The Cliff last night.

Quite a few U/15 and U/16's played I understand, but also Vitek, Jurado, Garnacho and Hansen-Aaroen.

Fleetwoods U17's, poor result considering the calibre of some of the players, Hansen-Aaroen was head and shoulders the best player on the pitch, but you would expect that to be the case.

How is Jurado doing? Comes with great pedigree, seen he was on bench for the 18's last week, anyone seen him play?

It's really a myth on here that Popov (and Norkett) are "highly rated".

Looks like Nolan from U15s were playing upfront against Fleetwood and scored a pen.
