Miroslav Klose

Klose is just like Ole when Fergie got him. And Believe you me he has air power that only alan Shearer can macth in the entire Prem With Becks crossing it would be a great weapon late in games.

I don't know if I'd have him instead of Klose - but I don't think he'd be a bad addition to the squad at all, and as he's been warming the bench, or not included at all, at WHL, I think he would accept rotation.

With Rebrov going for a steal, maybe we could get them both.

Klose will score goals. No doubt about it. Plus RVN's tally will improve because defenders will have something else to think about. Fergie won't get a big name in January. If he wants Cisse or Ronaldhino or Schevchenko or someone like it, then he will have to wait. In the meantime why not give Klose a run. He can always off-load him at the end of the season if he hasn't done the business and then splash out on a big-gun.

That shouldn't be the way to do things. Either keep faith or don't buy him.

I know that is not the way and I'm sure if he signed he would prove his worth by the end of the season. There is a bottom line to everything though and thats why it won't hurt to give him a try. Who else could we get for £5m that scored 5 goals at the WCF and has been playing regular first team football in a top European division and isn't cup-tied? He signs, he plays, he scores. Simple.

we shouldnt sign someone just for the sake of it

klose is shit and cant use his feet at all ... and he ONLY scores against rubbish sides ... give young lad a chance before we spend any money on him

can we close the topic now?

dans and jens have spoken ...

Klose would be an ideal signing IMO at 4-5 milion. He will score many goals for us, because he will get passes from MU creative midfield not from Lautern's. He's no a dribbling wizards and he hasn't got lightning pace, but he can do the job what we need. He can hold the ball, he can pass, he can finish with feet or head. He has a great physical presence and agility. We need this abilities so much.
He is a full german international and world cup finalist. (For 4-5 million?) It would be a bargain buy.
Last season he scored 16 goals for Lautern.
If we want to sign Bellion we could. But he is just prospect for the future with Nardiello, Webber.

1. Klose can use his feet. If you remember WC matches, he made assists.
2. We need cover for RVN. He can play if RVN is injured or tired. Ole or Diego can't replace him. Do you know better player at this price for that position? Rebrov is not a choice for us.

He does well under pressure, which is exactly why Ferguson got interested in the first place.

You are missing the point. What we need is a genuine 4-4-2 option. Look at our recent performances (West Brom apart). Battering defences for 80% of the game with little reward. The final third is where the problems lie because with 4-4-1-1 defences need to worry about RVN for the most part. So they stick two or three on him and stop him scoring from open play. How many from open play in the last 10? Thats not saying RVN is shit, he needs a foil and tactically that is usually someone good in the air (e.g. Teddy) SAF needs to be able to change the formation if things aren't going to plan with the prefered setup. With Beckhams crossing ability and Klose's known heading prowess it might be what we need to unlock what are becoming ever stubborn defences. Especially late on in games. He will cause problems with that kind of service, no question. If he does that and doesn't score himself then there's always RVN with a bit more space. Thats how SAF see's it IMO. Christ, there are points in games when you could stick Duncan Fergoson or Hartson there and still get the same effect. So at 24, a proven international, 5 WC goals, 16 league goals last season, and not cup-tied, £5m is a snip. And sure if there are areas on his game that need improvement well I would think SAF has thought of that too.

I think an aerial threat from the bench is essential in whoever we sign. Think about it.......

WE WOULDN"T HAVE WON THE TREBLE WITHOUT TEDDY!

What did he give us?
A football brain & an aerial threat

What didn't he give us?
Pace

Klose could be the same!

Spot on.

How many times have those people seen Klose I wonder ... he was shit at the WC except for 3 games.

I expect SAF has seen him and knows what he wants him for. How did he get 16 goals last year if he's so shit? Were all of them 'stumbled and bumbled' in? The goals I saw at the WC looked decent enough how did he even get into a position to score if he's brainless? Plus he had a few assist as I recall. He's 24 plays for a shit side unfortunately but can learn. He still features in Germanys squad and I'm sure Dans and Jens would concede that the German coaching staff are not bloody idiots.

Germany is about as well off for strikers as England is. There are none of any note at all. Germany, despite getting to the semis, have been a poor team for some time now. They made the semis because they played no one of any note and got fairly lucky against USA and Paraguay. Klose scored his goals against mediocre opposition. I've seen him play plenty over here, Jens more so, and he's never impressed me nor Jens judging by his posts! He can head the ball well but that's about all there is to him in my opinion, other than that he is very average and his finishing is poor.

Is this actually a worthy news story anyway or is it still paper talk? Are there any quotes? It's funny you see because once we are linked with a player there always seems to be plenty of people who come on here and wax lyrical about said "target". The Gallas story at the begining of the season was a prime example, praise reigned down on him left right and centre from the people of this forum, yet prior to the story (a false one again) nobody had ever mentioned him as a good player let alone a possible signing. Klose has been mentioned a few times, but if my memory serves me well, he was dismissed more often than not.

btw Jens, how German is Klose really? Did he grow up here?

Yup, but he has some Polish ancestors and was born there (Oppeln/Schlesien). Came over here at a pretty tender age.

Fair comment Dans. BTW I think Germany got to the Final. I'm not waxing lyrical about Klose and I take your point that he may not be as good a finisher as we are led to believe. I would say though that I can see the reason for the interest in him. We would benefit from an ariel threat. If not Klose then someone of that ilk and not £25m for gods sake. Any suggestions?

I live in Southampton and I can tell you that Strachan and Lowe run a tidy ship down here both football wise and financially. They don't splash out millions because, unlike the Sheep and other premiership clubs. They choose their players carefully and if the agents ask for more than the wage ceiling they get told to go elsewhere. Now Saints maybe won't win European Cups or even the premiership but they are good enough for a top 6 place and they won't go broke. With the resources at Uniteds disposal there should be no reason why we couldn't get a decent striker to for reasonable money. Bellions probably a fine prospect but he is that - a prospect. We need the option I have spoken about now.

I had successfully blanked that from my memory - thanks.

Was there any official confirmation of our interest though? I haven't seen any myself.

Belion is another one of whom I've seen practically nothing and had never heard much about until we were interested in him and again he overnight he turned into the best prospect seen in years!

Personally, I think we need someone young, dynamic and who will likely be a servant of our club for many years. I'd wait until the summer and spend the money, 25m if necessary, on someone like Trezeguet, who is proven beyond doubt, or Cisse, who I think could be the next Henry.

He has never scored against a decent side (Schalke, Dortmund, Bayern, Leverkusen) in the Bundesliga and has scored in 2 Bundesliga matches this season. Yup, he was decent at the World Cup but disappeared in the knockout stages. His record for Germany is good but he only scores against the shite opposition.

It makes me cringe when I see the Germany squads, so yes, there´re some idiots in the Germany coaching staff who don´t give better players a chance.

So who are the German striking prospects that you think deseve a run?

Anything happening with Odonkor and Trochowski these days?
Roy picked those two as Germanys bright young hopes. Are they getting first team football yet?
