Gaming Minecraft | New caf 1.18 SMP server SIGN UP?

Pissed off!

Got started tonight. Built a little hut and found a cave nearby. Ventured in with my cobblestone tools to find some coal and hopefully a bit of iron. A few minutes in, I stumble upon a mine. Jackpot! Spent about an hour in there, picking up all sorts but after a few run-ins with poisonous spiders and creepers I decided to not push my luck and take my full inventory back to my hovel. I made it safely above ground and was just looking round to get my bearings and head home when I get ambushed by two skeletons. Dead.

I lost 4 full stacks of rail-track, 4 stacks of iron, 2 mine carts, a few stacks of fence and a stack of string. I wouldn't mind but it was broad daylight so there shouldn't have even been mobs above ground.

4 stacks of rail-track. :(

I hate this game.
To an outsider like me, this sounds bloody ridiculous.

How do i get started?

@Vidic_In_Moscow found a couple (but only a couple) of old screenies that I stuck on the album. A good overview of the town from map, and my old giant creeper robot thing.

On an unrelated note, is it possible to get a dynamic map or similar for the new server? I always enjoyed those.

edit: Or at least I am trying to upload them but it is stuck on pending.

Only I can upload directly to the album, just post them here or something and I'll add them. I purposely didn't add Dynmap to begin with because I think it takes something away from the 'exploration' element of the game, but I'll add it soon, maybe right now, as there's no harm in doing a render of the initial town area to begin with.

What sort of data amount does a minecraft server accumulate each month?

It can be nothing at all or 10's of GB, all depends on how much exploration you do. The main thing that'll take up memory is the map itself, it all depends on how many players you have really and how much exploring they do. Once the players get their exploring done and start building more, the map size can stay the same for weeks or months. Other things that use lots of memory are plugins like Dynmap (that expand as the map does) and interaction logging plugins that can be used to roll back damage or grief etc although you can purge data that's older than a certain date to save space.

Fair enough regarding the map - I always enjoy the sense of exploration and so forth.

Thanks, was just curious.

Not had a lot of time to get on but I am going to try and have a big session tonight.

VIM, it seems that Dynamap isn't updating. It's giving real-time player position updates, but the map hasn't changed in around 2-3 days, maybe even since it went live.

For the meantime it'll only render when the command is given, which I'll do routinely. Ultimately at some point it'll render all the time though and for the entirety of the map.

@Vidic_In_Moscow can Zurotio be added to the whitelist please mate? Miramell's brother.

Done!

Is that due to the bandwidth costs for auto updates? I'd be happy to chip in a few quid to help out, if it's costing you, mate.

Nah it's purely a gameplay choice. The idea being at the start, exploration is a bit more 'authentic' on the ground as opposed to being able to see for miles in one shot. In a couple of weeks or so I'll change it. Appreciate the gesture though!

I see. I'm not bothered about being able to see outside of the immediate area, tbh. More the area we're building being accurately represented, say, once per day, or so. Is it possible, or do the two come hand-in-hand?

I'll do a render almost daily, so it'll always be relatively up to date.

Odd! It'd already restarted itself by the time I read your post earlier. If it happens one more time I'll do some investigatin'!

I've set up a pretty sweet cobble generator outside my shack. With a standard diamond pick, it'll net you around 80-90 cobble per minute and drops them into a double chest at your feet.

Feel free to check it out! :D

Miramell informs me that she has found a stronghold, so if anyone fancies a crack at the end etc, get on! I just finished work for a couple weeks too so I'll be on over the christmas period.

Gonna be using the server to test new ideas for the relaunch of a bigger public server. It's probably going to be using some kind of mod to freshen the game up a bit. FTB maybe I'm not sure, need to research and test.

If anyone wants anything saved with WorldEdit now is the time to speak!

May have to take a vow of no MC 'til I get a PC that can handle shaders like this...

Looks so amazing!

I've been trying a couple of servers lately, gotten back into the Minecraft phase.

GC has asked about a server, how many would be interested in a classic cafe server to play on? I can have it up in minutes.
