Michael Laudrup

Better manager and much less of a cnut than Rodgers. Swansea have done well with Laudrup.

It's an interesting one with them both. Outside of Swansea neither has had a brilliant career as a manager (obviously Laudrup did as a player) and that probably says more for Swansea as a club really. I read somewhere that when Martinez took over there they wanted attacking football and he basically brought in a load of staff who could make it happen and they've pretty much stuck around which allows the successors of Rodgers and Laudrup to carry this on with minimum disruption. Both of them still did a very good job to carry on the "tradition" but it seems Swansea have a very good system which works well regardless of who is in charge.

it would be amazing if they could win the league cup. Imagine swansea getting to a trophy before the arse!

Agreed, I was quite miffed at how it looked like a walk in the park for Chelsea. I really hope they can hold the lead and score 1-2 on the counter to kill it off.

I recall last year there were strong runours that Swansea wanted to appoint an ex coach who left to go to Wigan with Martinez (think he's his assistant) as manager - but he didn't think he was ready for a managers job.

I think the likes of Martinez and Rodgers deserve credit for what's happening now. Each has come into the club and taken it on an extra level - the team getting promoted and then performing like they did last year was a real achievement.

Laudrup looks like he's taken them on another level - and has been able to do that because they're a good club with a good style and with the infrastructure already there.

You had never seen Getafe play?

His brother was immense as well: not as incisive a playmaker as Michael, but a multi-faceted winger/forward who was Denmark's best player in three consecutive international tournaments ('92, '96 and '98).

Not much in all honesty when he was there no. I saw bits but not enough to comment on them. From what I hear they were good and he got a lot of praise. I probably shouldn't of made the statement he hasn't had a brilliant career as a manager although he did only stay there 1 season as manager so never really "developed" a team or tried to expand on their success.

Obviously all the managers, Martinez, Rodgers and Laudrup deserve some credit they've all done what was expected to be done of them, my point was more that the infrastructure at Swansea lends itself to their philosophies which made them perfect for the club.

He went to Getafe and took a struggling team on a brilliant team. Admittedly, they prioritized the cup and was sometimes on and off in the league, but he really made his impact on Getafe like no other. Many tried to follow his career after Getafe, but then he went to some Russian club and got himself fired.

I personally wrote him off like Roy Keane, that he found a good team at Getafe and he was struggling with all other set ups, but he has proven me wrong with his work at Swansea. While Swansea should be credited for making a very good and bold decision with Laudrup, probably one among the many good decisions they have made, I think Laudrup could go on to be a brilliant manager in the near future. He also has the profile that will attract players and raise the club's profile that Martinez and Rodgers lack.

Gio, I was just trying to be funny with Brian but the mind boggles when you think Michael was so much better.

M Laudrup was very close to signing with Liverpool in their pomp, but he turned them down as he wanted to see out his contract with Udinese first I think. Glad it didn't happen

Indeed. It's been obvious for a long time that Swansea have just carried on what Martinez started. It's why it always annoyed me hat Rodgers went around smugly claiming the credit as if he was the first manager in the history of football to consider not humping the ball up the pitch at every opportunity.

Maradona's out of work at the moment.

Got to be between Van Basten, Laudrup and Zico for me.

No, he had agreed a contract with Liverpool when he was with Brøndby, for either 2 or 3 years (I forget), and then, right before signing, the scousers wanted to add a year to the contract. They said he needed a year extra to mature, because he was so young. Without offering him extra money.

Laudrup has said that it was a matter of principle; when you make an offer, you don't go and change it afterwards... so he walked away.

Yep, and he got an offer to play at Juve.

Raul said Laudrup is the best he's ever played with.

He's also played with Zidane, Ronaldo, Figo etc etc

just watched that full video.

Only one word........WOW.

Easy to forget how good he is, granted I saw him mostly at the tail end of his career. So natural and so effortless, I wouldn't question anyone who held him above Zidane, genius of a footballer. Some of the touches, flicks and feints in that video are jaw dropping

Outrageous footballer.

Imagine being the likes of Ki, Chico Flores and De Guzman - all Laudrup singings - and being rated as being a good footballer by one of the greatest to play the game.

It must be some buzz.

Find him to be a really good manager and a top bloke too. When they were winning every week at the start of the season he kept emphasising that there fans should not get their hopes up as it was likely they would go through a spell of getting beaten every week. He is always honest about his views and has continued playing the team the right way. He's also managed the players well and doesn't seem to have upset anyone, even after the early criticisms of him.

I think Swansea in general are a great club, its mad to think a premiership club share a public gym but it must be so much better for keeping the players grounded.

If he wins the League Cup and gets a top 10 finish this season I can see Roman calling this summer.
