Wonder if this ends any (even very small) possibility of a Klopp U-turnPower struggle with Klopp. Klopp shadow and power was big than Edward's job description

Power struggle with Klopp. Klopp shadow and power was big than Edward's job description
What do you mean not true. Not True
Edward’s achieved everything he could in his position at that time
he wanted new challenges that were higher than his position at the time and those options weren’t on the table for him
Real Madrid offered him Sporting Director position, he just simply wasn’t interested in that role anymore
Liverpool have comprised a higher position ticking the boxes Edward’s required
simple as that really
Looks like they're trying to go to a multi-club ownership model. Really despise the way football is going.
That seems to be Edwards' plan. blergh.FSG?
Yeah, that’s the remit Edwards is going to be given.FSG?
That seems to be Edwards' plan. blergh.
Yeah, that’s the remit Edwards is going to be given.
Classic Ornstein. The reality seems quite simple - in line with what posters are saying above about why he left Pool - his name would undoubtedly have come up but he wouldn't look at sporting director jobs so there's nowhere for him in the Ineos setup.Ornstein tweeting he turned us down but he didn't put it in the article itself. Chucking our name in there for the interactions...

Exactly, I never get this power struggle talk. He was looking to move up, and also possibly because he felt he had taken Liverpool as far as he could and did not want to stick around for another rebuild. And while I understand the desire for continuity and to try and reproduce what had worked before, the chances of replicating that kind of success feels very slim. Not True

The main reason I am happy he returns is that Klopp turned everything to gold and with him gone we really do need the best we can get everywhere else to compensate. this seems like a move towards that.Exactly, I never get this power struggle talk. It’s going to be sad when the Pool fans figure out that all they did was stumble upon a generational manager.
Far too much credit is given to FSG. They are coasting like the Glazers did with Ferguson. It is about to come crashing down and Edwards won’t make enough of a difference with their resources.
I agree, obviously I dont want it to work out, but it makes the most sense. The main reason I am happy he returns is that Klopp turned everything to gold and with him gone we really do need the best we can get everywhere else to compensate. this seems like a move towards that.
Alonso would be another.
Klopp has signed an extension 2026I agree, obviously I dont want it to work out, but it makes the most sense.
Liverpool have had Suarez/Coutinho level players before.
Klopp is the difference maker.

What do you mean not true.
It has been reported he left because of Klopp and he's returning because Klopp is leaving.
It was also discussed here on Sunday , from minute 1:00
What else are you gonna do? Build one?
Emm…never have one in the first place?
Their good decision was hiring Klopp in the first place. Any other manager wouldn’t have thrived given the restrictions on their resources.
A lot of these players will drop when he leaves and I suspect we will see what FSG are really like.

Was the difference maker. Now they are back to level where they don't need a miracle worker, just to be well run and they should continue to be competitive. Competing with City consistently is a slightly different story, but then they couldn't quite manage that with Klopp eitherLiverpool have had Suarez/Coutinho level players before.
Klopp is the difference maker.
Was it really 'savvy'? The guy just won back to back titles over bayern playing heavy metal football. Even we tried to go for him.The fact is FSG were savvy enough to go for Klopp in the first place. So there is potential they could strike gold twice.
Wowsers.I refuse to believe this will happen because I won't be able to handle it if it doesn't. For those who don't know who Edwards is and what he's already done for us... Be afraid. Be very afraid.
I agree. He doesn’t appear to be that highly rated on here because he only ever won the one Premier League title, but Klopp is one of the very best of the last twenty years. It’s going to be sad when the Pool fans figure out that all they did was stumble upon a generational manager.

Would tend to agree. All American owners are shitty owners cuz in the American sports model of socialism the owners coast along always making money. The best thing about FSG is they let Klopp do his thing, not too dissimilar to how Glazers let Fergie do his stuff. Open to correction
We are all so pleased for you.His first tasks are to find a sporting director and new manager. A job I would not have preferred in anyone else's hands.
Exactly how I feel now that it's announced.
They. Are. Worried.I refuse to believe this will happen because I won't be able to handle it if it doesn't. For those who don't know who Edwards is and what he's already done for us... Be afraid. Be very afraid.

Haha...it looks like you are happier to have Edwards than Klopp
No one can be bigger than Klopp right now. And his announcement to leave was devastating. Still is. But Edwards, and hopefully soon Alonso gives me lots of hope again.
