Michael Carrick | 2021/22 Interim-Interim Manager Performances

This is not a forward looking statement, but I think today he got the strategy/basic plan right.

I think questions have to be asked on seeing how we played there, of course it's just one match but... It looked completely different to us under Ole, he also managed to time the subs correctly and actually utilised our squad, something Ole very rarely, if ever, did during a match. Was Ole holding it back? Did Carrick etc have different ideas of what should have been going on but couldn't do anything because he was just the coach?

Delighted to be proven wrong about the same coaching staff being able to produce different results.

Most disciplined and organised we've been arguably since City away in March. Big questions about how we ended up being able to play as we did last season, but haven't been able to until Ole got the boot.

Good job with his subs to turn the game on for us. We were losing it no doubt before he interfered, something the previous manager used to feck up.

Now let's not got over board and hopefully that's the only game he'll manage for us.

Not a bad first game. Good subs, nice discipline.

Now let's get the first 30 min right.

Liked what i saw. Broke through the line with our passing and in second half didnt allow them easy passes through the middle.

I feared for us tonight, but am delighted he got a good result and a good performance.

Hopefully that just gives us the little bit of time we need to to not rush into the wrong appointment and plot a path we are happy with. Chelsea will come too soon, but if Carrick gets a result there he can leave with his head held high.

Goes to show what a monumental balls up Solskjaer made of so many simple tasks.

That was just 'European Away 101'. Be compact, ask the opposition to break you down. Pick players in their actual positions and get them playing to their strengths - AWB one vs one defending, Sancho wide right, Rashford as an impact sub, Fred defending higher etc...

Then use the bench effectively to start having a go once you have drawn the sting and the legs out of the opposition

We won but let's not pretend anything changed really. We were very lucky, De Gea kept us in the game and then Villareal gave away the goal. Could have easily gone the other way today.

- Defence and their cover still need a lot of work.
- Still cheaply giving away possession.

The workrate is just superb, from top to back.

Too early to judge, although the positive is that he benched bruno (he's been gash recently) and made timely subs.

If ole was still at the wheel then bruno and rashford wouldn't have come on atleast until the 85th min.

Tbf ole would have started both.

Maybe we can shut up for a while now about him being shit until we actually see how he is.

Delighted we won tonight, and hopefully he wins every game he manages until we've hired a manager.

It was a controlled performance after the first 30 minutes. Can't argue with the result as that is not an easy place to go and win.

Got it right today but my god he looked incredibly nervous in those post match interviews. Guess it’s his first time and all so not too surprised

Great debut. We looked more disciplined, shook the team up just the right amount with his team selection, introduced the subs in a relatively timely way. We started to play with a hint of swagger for the first time in a long time towards the end there. Good on you Michael.

If you're reading though Ed you'd better not appoint the guy as permanent manager. We could have saved our league season if you'd pulled the trigger several games ago you fat hamster goblin.

I thought he came across very well. Made all the right decisions and the team looked good. Just went back to basics in some ways.

He simply is better than Ole because he doesnt get his ass glued in the bench like something is stuck and shoved inside his bumhole

His honesty in the interviews is refreshing after the fake positivity we've had to endure for years.

He'll manage against Chelsea at least. It's too soon for someone to come in and plan for that game (best case scenario they're sat in the crowd).

I do wonder if this little run might be good for him. Just based on the way he played he probably has a good understanding of tactics, maybe this will push him to actually try and get a managers job in the Championship or maybe somewhere like the Dutch league. Seems like a thoroughly nice and professional lad and I think that may be a good move for him.

Yes very much so. He sounds like he both understands and believes what he’s saying; Ole, particularly in the latter part if his reign, tended to sound like he was saying what he thought people wanted to hear.

I wonder what would happen if we were to handle Chelsea pretty comprehensively. Not a thrashing of course, but say a pretty well-executed 1-2.

Not smiling randomly is a start. If he could manage in lower leagues to prove himself and start climbing the ladder (like Gerrard) it would be great.
