He's controlled the game? In what way? Both teams have been brutal and this is the worst we've played in weeks.
He was awful the last 30 minutes; we were all over the place, but at the time I posted he was doing well bar a couple of misplaced passes.

He was rightly pissed at our players' inability to keep possession before the penalty was conceded. Top player but he was badly let down by the rest of the team in that department.

Got bum rushed a couple of times today but did what you want from him in terms of back 4 protection and fizzing the ball forward, the movement in front of him and the lack of first ocuh quality from the forwards wasn't on him.

Up until that point, yes. We were in control. The last 40 was awful and he was poor, though not as bad as Pogba.
We really weren't, and what little control we had he had very little to do with it, Herrera was setting the tempo.

Not his best but we have shat the bed at Goodison many many times.

He was our best midfielder today I think.

To be fair though, I'll give both Carrick and Herrera same rating. Both have positive and negative for giving the ball away.
I think he still did well today defensively, he did his job well to protect the back four but people called him poor just because he gave the ball away from missed passes but Herrera also lost possession a few times in dangerous position for poor touch or control, and not many people mentioned him being poor.

Probably his worst game in a while. He wasn't terrible though, just sloppy and a bit ineffective.

Man Utd 1:0 Tottenham
Masterclass.

Adding another one to his bitches collection. Errikson today, Ozil last week.

I don't think he was anywhere near as influential as he should be in that second half. You look to him to get his foot on the ball and calm things down and that wasn't really happening. He wasn't the only one, mind you.

Thought he was pretty average today. Herrera outshone him both halves.

Some great positional play and composure in there today, he drew fouls on more than one occassion. Benefits from having the energy of Herrera and Pogba ahead of him.

Does his job brilliantly. Love the "unsung hero" type of player, footballers footballer as they say. Replacing him has to be a priority.

He ought to go down as one of our best midfielders ever. There are very few like Carrick in the world.

Probably makes our top 5 after Keane, Robson, Scholes and Charlton unless I'm missing someone hugely obvious.

Herrera was immense, but Carrick facilities that.
I know, I'm a huge Carrick fan, but I thought he lacked a bit of composure today. He lost the ball a few times and needed Herrera to swoop in. Still love the guy though.

this comment would perfectly describe his Everton performance, but today it would be a little strange

Not Carrick's best game, but he does so much just with his positioning that is impossible to notice just watching the game. I've posted it before, but I recall one match where the Norwegian pundits acknowledged his influence against Chelsea where the ball didn't get to Drogba at all simply because of Carrick's positioning. He didn't even have to make interceptions, but Chelsea couldn't pass the ball that way.

His most vital is his positioning, he intercept many passes and because he's always in good position defensively, Spurs midfielder really struggled in the middle of the park, you'll see often when either Alli or Eriksen turn around after receiving a pass and try to dribble through the middle, Carrick has already stood in their way, making it impossible for them to go through, this positioning sense is really a skill that none of the player in our team except Carrick has...this of course will not get into any stats, it will not count as tackles or interception, but it's extremely important skillset for defensive midfielder and only by watching him then you can appreciate how important he is for our team

His reading of the game is really superb that even if he is starting to slow physically it almost doesn't matter because his brain give him 2-3 meters start ahead of the opposition

Agreed. He was good defensively but didn't offer enough in possession when we were under pressure.

His crisp forward passing wasn't there imo. Not his best game.

Yes, that's something him and Rio were always good at. He cuts off the supply to the opposition around him. Defensively he was fine, just lacked a bit of composure for me though.

break the transfer record fee for Verratti and the midfield is sorted for years...

Agree with everything here. Rio was spectacular at that as well - just stood his ground, which made it look like he never even defended or had to, compared to so many last ditch tackles by other defenders.

Important but not his best game either. Was hoping he would get his foot on the ball in the second half and start passing it around (even if sideways) so that we could have the ball for more than 10 seconds and to slow Spurs momentum.

Probably the best English passer of the ball ever

I am a massive fan but...

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

I need to get me some of what you have been smoking/drinking.

He is wonderfully consistent in regards to his passing, but that does not make him the best. Not by a long shot.
