MEN banned from the press conference today | Some journalists banned for running articles without approaching United for comment first

I'd have a different opinion of the decision if they banned decent journalists for not following guidelines.

But here you several cnuts whose whole journalistic career is built off the back of reporting rubbish about Man Utd. They didn't follow the proper guidelines they got banned. Proper order.
What would that opinion be?

The didn't follow guidelines last month and I doubt this is the first time. If we can admit they wouldn't have taken the story if the article was positive, then the main reason is because it's a negative store.

This isn’t the Fergie era as much as us fans would like it to be. ETH is in noway in a position of strength. But fair play to him.

ETH is at the stage where some people will interpret anything he does as negative.

F**k it, If he’s on his last days I hope he goes down swinging

What was the specific article in question that lead to this do we know?

I'd think it would be a bit small time to ban journalists for doing it once. Unless there was precedent set previously. Like I already said, the guys have made careers out of posting unvalidated bullshit about Utd for years.

It's high time Utd took a stand, more clubs should do the same. This is what Luckhurst had to say when SAF went down this route before. They don't like it, not because they think the club is wrong, but because their entire career hinges on them having direct contact with people inside the club.

FINALLY. It's been a long time coming, this endless press bullshit and clickbait has cast a dark cloud over our club and to be honest I'm shocked it's taken this long to start punishing these so called "journalists" for their endless hot takes and pretences. It's even infected Redcafe, the number of blatant lies shared on here that do nothing but harm the club.

It's 2023!

Journalists only report what they see and hear!

Is Ten Hag's next move to insist that every negative post on RedCafe or every angry tweet on whatever twitter is called now gets deleted?

Yeah plus its the season to be jolly. Have
a mince pie Erik and calm the feck down

Not true. Try citing "sources" and writing stuff that brings a big corporate into disrepute and the paper will get its ass sued. Which is why journalists take time, corroborate from multiple sources, try to get facts and proof before publishing. It is only in sports journalism that you can cite sources and write whatever you want without any accountability. Change the story the very next day if you please.

What makes you think it’s true?
Just feels too much of a coincidence that after this particular article was released, that everyone that reported on it are banned. There’s been plenty of reports previously of similar things and no bans.

negative stories had already been written and we can both agree they would do this for a neutral or positive story. Therefore, it's reasonable to view the main reason for the ban as the negative story regardless of the other reasons.

The other question is what does this actually accomplish? Even if they ask for comment, they will still publish the story.

Despite the club offering a clear explanation, you seem to be making up your own story about banning negative articles when they haven't and the media organisations can publish whatever story they want, just don't expect to come to a Old Trafford press conference when you haven't given the club a chance to comment.

It will hopefully reinforce that journalists need to do their job and not just print anything without giving a chance for the club to comment. The fact they printed dressing room unrest without an opportunity for the club to comment is scandalous.

How does this stop the stories, leaks etc.

Not like much gets said in ETH press conferences anyway.

But yeah it is nicer not having them there for the club.

Doesn’t that show it’s a nothing story? By this logic no story could ever be presumed false.
Maybe the club just had enough and took a stand? If it’s plainly not true then I can see why they though my enough is enough

I'm not making up my own story, nor saying it wasn't part of the reason. I'm saying it wasn't the main reason, which is the only logical conclusion to reach. Once again do you think they would have been banned for a neutral or positive story?

So if the club doesn't confirm the story they can't run it? That's silly. Publishing stories only confirmed by the club isn't real journalism.

I don't care for the stories most sports journalists write but if they are sourced, which he claims were I don't see a problem. If United were consistent in this "policy" I wouldn't have problem with the banning either. Regardless of the success or profile of a manager, banning journalists is a terrible look.

Why would the club care to comment on a positive story?

You can't separate the snide behaviour of publishing shite about the club without offering them the opportunity to comment from the publishing of said shite.

"Several insiders have told Mirror sport they are furious with members of the squad leaking information to journalists"

Is what I am expecting next

Basically the players hate Martial, they’re starting to hate Rashford, they think Amrabat, Antony, Hojlund, Mount and Weghorst are shit and don’t rate ETH or his tactics.
It's interesting that Rashford has been awful all season yet until a few days ago nobody in the press had made any comment about it. Now a few ex-players have called him out, every "journalist" out there is piling in on him.

It's almost as if they don't actually watch the football but just follow whatever opinion happens to be trending.

You are slow. There already are exactly these reports.

Unusual move, but they obviously felt the press should have given them the chance to comment which does seem reasonable.

I wonder if them being banned from the press conference is an EtH call.

I can only imagine those journos will be scratching around for more now. Whilst generally it's healthy to be sceptical of things, I find it hard to believe a group of separate journos made up similar stories and unlike some I don't expect them to print their sources' name(s), as if that's something journalists ever do.

The Hojlund thing is bothersome though. Shafting a young player that we expect will need time to find his way is a real dick move.

Will be an OG for United.
The days of Ferguson having the Press by the balls as they needed content from you are long gone.
As soon as there’s something more negative to get their teeth into it won’t end well for the current regime

Of course they wouldn't have been banned for a positive story unless they were breaking an embargo or something. I don't think yours is the only logical conclusion when there have been several incidences of these journalists printing stories based on so called sources. They are alleging something serious and have not given the club a chance to comment. It's gutter journalism. No one is stopped from printing any stories, they can keep printing to their hearts content.

It's a basic courtesy that you give the right of reply with any story that you are claiming to be factual where it has a negative claim.

For too long these folk have been able to hide behind 'anonymous sources within the club have revealed' excuses.

Rashford had to come out and quash one from that bell end on the United Stand that wasn't true, then the twat went on talksport crying about it.

Tbh If were boss I would ban all journalists from these press conferences except BBC, Sky and maybe TNT Sports.

The rest of the media is a waste of time.

TNT sport interviewed Ten Hag and admitted they love to see us in crisis.

Yeah but they have enough of a reputation not to be spouting complete rubbish from 'sources in the dressing room'

And also they paid a lot of money for PL rights so they probably should get their press conference.

The MEN did react by giving the below synopsis when you google about the ban

Manchester Evening News banned by Manchester United ...

3 hours ago — Man United have reacted to 10 defeats from 21 games by banning journalists from attending Erik ten Hag's press conference.

I'm sure that not being present for a press conference with a manager with minimal charisma who never really says anything won't be devastating to those journalists although you can guarantee they will pretend it is to make this a story so this probably causes more hassle than actually just allowing them in. I do get though that it must be rough for any human to read about the people they manage everyday potentially leaking against them and then not even being sure what is genuine and what isn't.

The Sky regularly picks and chooses news that show club in negative light, not to mention their game analysis articles that concentrate only on decisions that went for us and ignore any decisions that went against us. IMO, Sky can join the rest of the liars.

Looking forward to the club's Athletic's update.

I do wonder whether the papers are lying about these "leaks" though.

Doesn't matter if they can confirm it or not, 99.9% of football related journalism is made up nonsense. It's not real journalism.

Publishing articles where claims are being made by one side and not contacting the other side to seek a right of reply is not upholding any kind of standards. It's pathetic and childish and they've been met with a somewhat pathetic and childish response. But in this case, I think it's warranted.

The Sky Sports journalist is literally one of the journalists banned.

I know, but I'm sure they have others who are not banned. You can't really ban Sky Sports with their brand spanking new TV contract.

I would ban all press conferences if possible, but I don't think it is.

Glazers probably paid them to run the stories, and now Ten Hag does the right thing and bans them.

Tough gig for Ten Hag dealing with the PR. He's got enough to worry about on the pitch.
Honestly intrigued at what your thought process for this is?

It’s such a simple principle; Get information. Verify it with the club. Build a relationship with the club.

It used to be essential to be factual. Papers were bought and sold based on their content. Editors had a function. Journalists had some integrity.

Now, it’s just endless clicks and ad serves. Nothing needs to be correct. Bullshit makes more money than the truth.
