Sounds great apart from Carrick. He is 33+ now, Blind is the future in our midfield IMO.

Depay from right would be quite ineffective, he is really just like the Ronaldo of nowadays, come inside and score, he isnt the winger who will pass his man and give a cross.

I'm not convinced. Everyone is saying he's better on the left based on the difference between his performances in each half of the Chelsea match. People fail to ignore that Ivanovic gave him more time on the ball compared to Luis and also there was more support offered to both Januzaj and Shaw on the left.

Even when it comes to dribbling, how many times do you see Januzaj dribble past players on the left compared to the right? I've seen Januzaj dribble past players on the right touch line far more often than the left. This is off topic though, and should go in the Januzaj thread.

Depay has played on the left for PSV and is deadly there.
 
I remember the rumour about LvG telling him to stay put until next summewr when he'd bring him to United, if his development continues at the pace it is I can see us going for him. I also think he has to play on the left cutting in, he's not a pure winger, he's a wide forward and if that meant Di Maria back into the left of the midfield 3 our whole left side would be looking great.
 
Right now, van gaal knows if depay is united quality or not. Thats the most interesting thing. We all also see some sort of quality in him for him to be regarded.

Personally I don't see how there is any comfortable margin between them but regardless we need to move Di Maria back into the midfield 3 and Depay on the left cutting in and offering pace and a genuine goal threat would be ideal for a front 3.
 
We could do with another winger in spite of all our attacking talent anyway. We should go all out for him in the summer, especially as we will be playing more football next year.

He's really not put a foot wrong. His last two games have been his only consistent game-time for ages. People too easily decide that a player is out of form when in fact they're just not on the pitch. He was probably our best attacking player against Chelsea, as he so often has been when given the chance.

Depay is not in the same category. He's fast and fairly skilful and has an eye-catching shot from distance but his potential ceiling isn't as high as Januzaj's.

I'd agree with you, for me his best performances have mostly come when he's played on the right but in truth I think he's about equally effective on either side. Depay is most definitely best utilised on the left though.

I'm curious to know how much you've actually seen Depay play. I'm no expert on him but I'd say that making any conclusions about which of the 2 is the bigger talent would be premature and utterly subjective.

Depay is definitely the player who's impressed the most of the 2 this year (10 goals and 4 assists in 10 games is just incredible for a player at that stage in their career), but he's done it at a significantly lower level of competition than Januzaj who's definitely suffering from cuircomstances of belonging to a much larger club in a much fiercer competition. It's impossible to conclude that Adnan would've fared equally well or better than Depay at PSV and vice versa. However Depay also has a larger role in his national team having scored twice and assisted once in the WC. Once again though you could perhaps argue that Januzaj has to deal with much fiercer competition than Depay at international level aswell as he has to compete with players such as Hazard, Mirallas, Mertens, De bruyne and Chadli.

I think that one reason that someone might underestimate Depays potential ceiling could be that he already appears as the finished article. It's much harder to pinpoint weaknesses in Depays game that he needs to improve than it is with Adnan who IMO have more obvious flaws in his game. Therefore people may (perhaps justly) suggest that Adnan has a higher ceiling, but it's far from certain.
 
Depay started the season blitzing the league, to say Januzaj is comfortably better is bizarre.
 
Neither Januzaj or Depay will ever become world class, although they will still be good, productive players over the years. Depay certainly seems to have a greater upside than Adnan at the moment, although that could obviously change with form.

One plays in the Eredivisie, the other in the Premier league.. Small bit of a difference there. Let's see how depay gets on against the likes of Chelsea, City, arsenal rather than Ajax, feyenoord..

Admittedly I've only ever seen highlights but most of it is pretty standard left wing stuff that Ashley Young did regularly at Villa in a better league. I'd much rather have Nani back to be honest and he'd cost nothing.

Except when Young was Depay's age he was playing in the Championship.
 
It's Reus or Depay in my eyes. First choice would be Reus, but if he chooses sunny spain then Depay will be a great second choice.

You've posted this before and I genuinely see no similarities in Memhpis' play to Young's. He's far, far more developed physically than Young ever was, not afraid to take players on with his pace, and very rarely actually stays on his wing to cross. Not even mentioning the fact he's far bigger goal threat than Young has ever been.

Like I said, I've only seen highlights and games at the WC so my opinion is not very informed to say the least.

Depay, to me looks like a quick, skilfull winger who has a good shot on him. That pretty much describes Young to me. He's turned into shite for us but let's not forget he was quite good for Villa and he wasn't all about crossing either. In fact he played as a AM in his last season there. As for goal threat, you might be right but the numbers are very exaggerated for players in the Eredivisie. Some keep that up in better leagues (RVN, Ronaldo, Suarez in his last season) and some don't (Alves, Kezman, Kalou). Hard to say how he will do outside of the Dutch league.
 
To add to that from highlights alone, Ola John looked pretty good as well and he's currently on the bench in Portugal.
 
Depay is faster and has a better shot. But thus far in their careers Januzaj is the one who's demonstrated better link up play and imagination.

So they'd compliment each other then, I'd rather have Depay as an option than Young or Valencia for instance in the speed and power department.
 
I'd say januzaj is more talented while depay so far has a more of an end product, more of a pace and power type player which of course suits the league nicely. Wouldn't mind bringing him in at all if we don't get reus.

He's much, much faster than Valencia on the ball.

Certainly these days. Valencia on the ball rarely gets above walking pace.

The logic is that he offers the same sort of pace and power but with an actual end product, something Valencia hasn't had in quite some time. Depay is nearly a decade younger as well so we can actually develop him further.
 
Depay would be a fantastic signing. He's got massive potential and it would make sense if the likes of Young and Valencia are on their way out.

State something as a fact in that he's much faster & stronger than Valencia & fail to mention with the ball at his feet....
Valencia is still very able to run at pace & when he chooses to is rarely caught. I do not believe for pure pace Depay is anywhere near as rapid as Val in full flow.
 
We are struggling to give Janauzaj enough game time so I don't see us buying another young talent to make that problem worse.

Both players will develop by playing games and I don't see us being able to use both so perhaps we are not the best club for him to join... Perhaps dortmund (Reus replacement) Or somewhere like that would be a better fit for him in terms of development
 
I'd say Janu will play every game in a 4-3-3, and I imagine that's where we will eventually end up. IMO we should look to sign a first-team winger like Depay, as that would push Di Maria inside and increase his productivity.

where would you see janu play - presumably as one of the wide forwards?
I guess that would leave di maria as the attcking midfielder then and depay as the other wide forward leaving rooney, rvp and falcao (plus wilson) fighting for one spot?
I just think we have too much established talent to try and fit in two young wide attackers into our squad - not to say depay isnt good but Id feel a bit uncomfortable dropping rooney or falcao for example to fit him in?

Yeah, you're right. A lone striker system doesn't suit us at all right now, but based on the last couple of matches I think it might be what we will eventually move towards. If we set out 4-3-3 against City and Arsenal then it seems it will likely be our big-game formation. In that case, we will need better wide options as Valencia and Young won't cut it and Januzaj and Di Maria are more effective inside. With that in mind, I think Depay would be ideal for us.

possibly though if roonay and falcao had been fit we might have set out differently for the chelsea game anyway?
