Memorable opening scenes in film

Two always stand out in my mind when this quesiton comes up...

Lord of War:

Watchmen

Excluding Welles and Kubrick, love both The Player or Raiders.

The opening to the original Star Wars is probably the best example.

Amazing considering it was released 30 years ago. Its also impressive how the futuristic world depicted then looks eerily similar to today.

Scream.

Excuse the subtitles, it was the only decent video I could find of the full opening scene. I love horror movies and very rarely get scared by them, but the first time I saw this, it scared the utter crap out of me.

Are you like me in that every time you type or say 'Face Off' you do that little hand thing Cage does in the movie to illustrate a face coming off?

:lol::lol:

Going with this...I remember turning to someone who was with me in the theater and saying 'We're about to see something truly unique'...It all went downhill after the first film but how could it not?...There was so much attention to detail in that first scene that you were assured that what was to follow was going to be a mental rollercoaster you had never been on before

Those moments are hard to trump but they are memorable...Someone mentioned Rushmore, I felt similar about that too...I immediately wanted to see Wes Anderson films...Nolan clearly has a similar effect on many fans

Can't believe Saving Private Ryan's not in yet.

Probably because the Normandy Invasion scene was not the opening scene of the movie.

So the real opening scene gets overshadowed by the next scene for most people

Raiders of the Lost Ark ranks up there.

Dark Knight

2001 Space Odyssey is certainly memorable piece of filmwork.

Jaws
