He was just comparing where he currently lives to Cheshire as you were describing Cheshire as a private paradise. You on the blob mate?

You’re losing it @Lennon7 , the debate was about players selecting clubs for nice cities, I simply said that Cheshire is a lovely place to live.
No idea where the weird ”every 19 year old is the World is the same and wants to live in the dam over Cheshire” rant came from. Then you jumped in and threw in a snide sexist remark, a very strange turn of events for a post that just said Cheshire is lovely.

I didn't bother reading the rest. He made a valid point about places to live and you called him a weirdo.

Cheshire is not even vaguely comparable to Amsterdam. In the latter you can live in one of the coolest Cities on the planet, cycle and walk around, get on the water, be among people without paparazzi stalking you. It’s far more private than Cheshire for that fact alone.

No 19 year old earning £100k a week is going to get excited over leaving Amsterdam to go to Cheshire.

Spent a fair bit of time in Hale some years ago and saw plenty of footballers and zero paparazzi. Don't think footballers get stalked by paparazzi in Manchester all that much either.

He replied to my post ranting on about how Amsterdam was better than Cheshire, which was I point I never made. I’ll repeat, I simply said Cheshire is a lovely place to live.
I mean, he started his post with a response to something I didn’t even say man:

Cheshire is not even vaguely comparable to Amsterdam.

So ”valid” is was not, weird it was.

On a side note it’s also weird to think everyone would prefer one place over another, absolutely bizarre in fact and stinks of a closed World view from someone who has barely travelled.

Why the fexk are you talking about Amsterdam you weirdo?

He currently lives there. Cheshire is not an upgrade. Not by any metric. And yes, I’m comparing the whole county to a City.

To anyone that says he lives in Abcoude, that’s obtuse. That’s effectively an Amsterdam suburb. Plenty of Ajax players ride bikes to training. It’s probably 10 minutes away.

Manchester is cool, trendy and pretty pleasant. But it’s still in England with all its pitfalls. Aside from London, no spot in England is going to be a factor in a move from the likes of Amsterdam, Berlin, Paris, Barcelona, Madrid, Lisbon and so many other places.

Lived in Amsterdam for a few months.

Would bet something substantial on me having travelled more extensively than you have too.

PM me. Weirdo (jk)

Have you ever travelled man?

People do have different opinions to you mate. Lots of people love the English culture, countryside etc.

I live in Sweden these days, I love it and chose it after living in Sydney and Auckland. Plenty of people would not do the same. In a few years I plan on living in the alps.
I know and have met loads of Aussies, Kiwis, Swedes, French, Italians etc. that love England. For many it’s just the change of environment into a new country/culture which is great.

Your views seem to come from someone who’s hardly travelled and has a small town mentality.

Wanna do an online bet on that?

PM me, I’m from the UK, spent 6 years travelling non-stop in my 20’s and have lived in Hong Kong, NZ, Aus, France, Norway, Sweden so this should be fun.

Or you could stop embarrassing yourself and just admit that yes, people do have differing opinions than you on where is cool to move and live?

Matthijs de Ligt might be bored of Holland and fancy a move, he maybe loves Italian culture or Spanish late nights, or maybe he’d be much more suited to a Bavarian lifestyle in Munich. Maybe he wants to try out lots of different cultures in his life. fecked if I know or would be so presumptuous to think I have any clue.

Dis gon’ be gud

You’re going to have to specify criteria. Are you listing countries? Towns and cities? Just cities? Cities and countries?

Cities will take me too long. Countries.

I have to say, this really escalated quickly from me making a simple post saying that Cheshire’s a lovely place to live.
The aggression on here

I don't think there's much chance of De Ligt coming to United, but haven't once thought it would be due to the city or anything. More the situation the club is in.

I went to school there. Quite a lot of United and City players lived around there in the 70s. I haven't been back there in decades and I probably wouldn't recognize the place, but it used to be a very well-to-do area.

It probably about 10 years since I was there a lot around Hale and Hale Barns. You'd see a handful of football players from all North West clubs every time you were in the centre. No one was getting harassed by paps or the public.

I'm sure there was player who said Manchester was a good place to be a footballer because you didn't get harrassed by anyone (might have been RVN). I think in Italy its quite bad and they often live in gated communities.

I doubt De ligt will give Manchester United a second thought when he hears the talk that United is going to limit its budget for buying players to 100 million pounds. Talk about a way to turn off high quality players.

See espn.

That’s the internets. I still remember a bloke having a go at me, calling me all sorts, all because I was referring to a different definition of the international phonetic alphabet than he was

Yeh especially when it’s likely that he’ll (hypothetically) be bought after AWB, meaning that his purchase would take our transfer spending over 100 million thereby negating the ESPN story

Well if we are paying £75m for him he will know it bollocks won't he.

I love the fact that this thread has now descended into a battle over who is the most well travelled poster and whether Hale, Urmstone, Amsterdam or Paris is the best place to live.

One thing for sure, I have followed the 'best place to live debate' far more closely than I have the previous 200 pages of speculation on whether we'll sign the most exciting young defender in world football.

Dunno what that says about me really.

Found this interview with one of Pep minions

He says that they don't harassed here unlike in Spain

“It's a lot different. For Pep in Barcelona it's not easy for him to walk the streets, or go to the cinema. So many people are like 'Pep! Pep!

“In Manchester like Munich, people respect you and ask for photos and autographs only if you have time.”

Most likely... I doubt the club will be divulging our budgets/finances to ESPN.

Possible.. Let's say they have been given information it could also be that they are downplaying our budgets in a bid to drive down the prices of players.

Pessimistic view... Its true we're fecked and we shouldn't be spending 75% on him anyway.

The same people are saying we're in for about 20 players. Believe nothing until it happens.

I like to daydream that we have a deal in place for AWB, MDL and Fernandes and we are going to announce/present all 3, on the same day as some sort massive statement of intent.

The only reason it's taking so long, is to make sure all 3 can be available at the same time for medicals, contract signings etc.

I could be right, couldn't I?

It's very possible the club have briefed this to counter other clubs taking the piss with prices, every player whose had a half decent season is £70m, it's getting stupid.

Because they dont have that many fans in the city to harass him. When he will get that?

can people stop derailing this with talk of De Ligt so we can focus on the e-fight over who has travelled the most

Not anymore, bought a new place in Amsterdam 2 months ago in the museum area.
Some people do have it all. Can hardly imagine a better place to live.

And of course the city matters. It’s not the sole reason, but can be a very big one. Obviously, if you’re rich enough, you can live a nice life wherever you want. I don’t doubt that there are some incredibly nice areas in or around Manchester. But that’s not all there is. Some players might put great value on the nightlife, some on cultural aspects of the city, others just want to live somewhere quiet, where the people leave them alone. It’s a very individual factor, but I think it matters a lot.

I‘m on my way from Malmo to Copenhagen right now. From there I’ll fly to Düsseldorf and then I’ll take the train to Cologne. I’ve won the thread.

Used to see Tommy Doc in the Bulls Head in Hale Barns quite a bit and a couple of other players. I used to have a pint in the Cheshire Midland or the Railway, where you could get a decent pint of Robinsons, which was my favourite ale at the time.
