Good defender. Barrow is a tricky winger and he won that battle. Still gives away too many fouls in non-dangerous situations though. Needs to pick his battles a bit better.

I don't get Darmian, physically, as he looked to own Barrow for pace today yet can look sluggish at other times. I recall last year he had another pacy winger in his pocket for pace the whole match on several runs, and then he can get outpaced by feckin Milner if he so decides to. Weird player.

Decent display, and the more he plays the more he'll hopefully get some form in.
Do hope Valencia is back soon though, as pacy wingers against him, coupled with no attacking threat aren't a great combo in this league.

Good - bad - good - bad. I feel his entire career here as been like that. He plays some good, even great, games for sure. If he had consistently turned in that type of performance, he'd be a solid FB.

Not that many who are comfortable as RB and LB.

Better than Shaw on the left hand side to be fair. Deserves to start on merit.

If he is content to stay as a back up full back, Im OK with that

HE was fine

Like I said in the Young thread, maybe we shoudl start appreciating our squad players a bit more

If he could just learn how to cross the ball, that would improve him immensely for us.

Yep, afterall it was the squad guys who contributed most during the SAF years.

The amount of dogs work that the likes of Park, Brown, O'Shea etc went through to enable the likes of Ronaldo to flourish.

Great approach from Darmian in last few games. He's been either on the bench or more often on the stands since the season started. Now he got a chance and he's using it very good, great defensively and not yet as influential offensively but getting there.

He bounced back and looks like he's willing to fight for his place in team. I'm sure Mourinho likes that a lot, can see him staying here.

Today and even midweek he has been very effective at offering width and timing his runs. The fact he did feck all on Thursday once he had the ball, and defended badly as well, makes it kind of worthless as he simply draws the ball to an area and inevitably loses it. Today was much better defensively although still lacked any real end product but for some reason I always seem to prefer him on the left. The lad just looks like he needs a hug or something to boost his confidence.

Today he did everything right, except for his crosses. And he sure had a few chances to cross..

I thought he did really well today. He played a lot higher up the pitch and was like a wing back in many ways.

When Valencia returns I think we will see a big improvement as Valencia and Darmian like to go up the pitch and cause a bit of chaos.

With Blind and Shaw on the left hand side we lack anything remotely resembling a threat. I know Darmian didn't put in good crosses today but he pulled the defenders apart at times which created space for our team to get the goals e.g. Ibras first.

It was only one way traffic on the right hand side with Valencia. Now we can have some of the ball go down on the left with Darmian.

He definetly won't be sold in January, as Shaw and Blind are not Mourinhos taste.

Do we consider Darmian as our best LB right now?

The only chaos Darmain causes is to our attacks he is chronically bad an attacking full back as you will see. Poor player would rather have Shaw Blind or CBJ!

very average player at best, Valencia would absolutely destroy the pathetic Swansea team, yes you can't say he was not trying but the only thing he's good at is maybe his tackling but only under certain circumstances because he can be easily outdribbled and outpaced and he wasn't tested at all today, if anything he was tested offensively and he was poor as his crossing is mostly shocking, his overlapping is also pointless when he can't put in a decent cross and can't take a good quick touch to get past player mainly because he lacks in pace too

I mean praise a player against gutless and soon championship side but don't jump the gun and say he's good enough, much bigger tests will come which will confirm that he should be sold in January/ summer as soon as we get some bid for him, he can hardly get significantly better

You try playing Valencia on the left wing and see what he does.

Valencia hasn't "destroyed" any team offensively in years so what are you on about? He's not as blunt offensively as Darmian but that's not saying much.

Valencia is both better defensively and offensively than Darmian, period. Swansea were very easy to penetrate today and Valcnia would provide much needed width from the fullback position which Darmian can't as he simply can't match Valencia speed, with Carrick, Pogba and Rooney all capable of that crossfield pass I am sure Valencia would be more menacing. Last couple of games it was Valencia back to his best but yeah Mancity and Liverpool are much harder to exploit than piss poor Swansea

Why you Valencia bashing? He's been our best player by a mile this season. Darmain is a mile of Valencia.

I'm not bashing Valencia, I'm just saying that playing a right footed player on the left side and expect him to cross the ball is a bit unfair. Darmian almost won us a penalty in the last game when he played right back, which isn't half bad unless you are comparing his attacking output to a player who is a right winger playing right back.

Glad to see him playing well again. he started here so brightly, I wonder what happened for him to drop off like he did. one or two bad performances and he just seemed to lose it.

Anyway, he's got all the abilities and Valencia's injury might just give him the chance to save his United career. he would be a good squad option even if he can't get better in attack.

I stated he is better offensively than Darmian, it was your statement that Valencia would "destroy" Swansea and using that against Darmian that was laughable.

Especially considering Valencia hasn't terrorised a side in years and after all its his offensive bluntness that has resulted in him being turned into a fullback in the first place.

While Valencia is the best of the lot, none of the full backs can be relied upon to provide a consistent attacking threat at the moment.

Not good enough going forward for me. Neither is Shaw for that matter.

We need a pacey RB in the mold of Dani Alves. Someone who will overlap and cross the ball in. But who is there like that? I haven't seen much of Fabinho but he seems to be the preferred choice.

Maybe we could do a player+cash deal with Roma for Florenzi? Or just bring Varela back. He looked good last season.

He plays mostly as a DM these days and is better at it IMHO. Monaco's RB (Sidibé) is one to look for in the future.

Good point actually. Is there a shortage of quality attacking full backs? Like, real FBs, not hybrid players like Fabinho and Alaba (not that there's anything bad in that).

It was you doing the comparisons and now this comparison Is daft as well. Judge both them on merit in the position they are selected. Truth be told Valencia is miles better than Darmain at right back on performances we have seen.

No it wasn't. I started off by quoting someone who said Valencia would have destroyed Swansea.

You said try playing Valencia on left was that not to mean in comparison to Darmains performance? If not I stand corrected! Then I'm not sure what you were meaning.

I was merely pointing out it's hard to fault Darmian for his lack of crosses when he's played out of position.

He is equally poor at crossing when played right back! It's not a positional thing if anything he looks better on the left. The fact he struggles to cross is here nor there as he has played left back in Italy plenty of times. It is not a new position for him.

he would definitely bullied them offensively, he's not good enough for a winger and that's maybe people have too many expectations, on one hand ppl are saying he's not defender when he makes defensive error and when he's not beating players he's all of a sudden shit going forward.. offensively he's been good lately and Swansea away was one of those games where he would get space and time to get forward even more..
