Apparently close to signing for Brighton for around 30 million.

I'm amazed that a "big 6" club hasn't gone for him.

I know he's only played in the SPL but feels like the sort of player will move from Brighton next summer for three times what they're paying for him this summer.
Maybe the scouts and data analysts at big clubs are right though, who knows ?

The lad looked good in videos and there's been noises since last summer, you'd think he could have been picked up for 15-20m at some point. Wouldn't have minded that.

Taking a big risk with all this spending? Especially with it being on young and unproven players.

Yeah, I am surprised. Feels like they would be in line for some PSR trouble next season.
Maybe they are banking on selling Evan Ferguson to balance the books or something, plus they did pretty well out of Caceido.

Why move away from the model that gave them so much success?

It’s also a lot of pressure to put on their very young manager.

Ambition can do some strange things, we've seen it before. It's odd and risky though, so hopefully they know what they are doing.

Hopefully? Are you a Brighton fan?
Not at all, but I don't like seeing well run clubs do stupids. It was funny when it was Leeds, but I've nothing against Brighton - at least not until tomorrow if they give dont give us all 3 point. If that happens they can crash and burn for all I care.

You guys must be joking - over the last 2 seasons (22/23 and 23/24), Brighton have spent about £140 million on players and sold players for £280 million...I don't think Brighton need to be too concerned.

And besides - we know they will sell 2-3 of these players for a minimum of £50 million each next season

I don't really care what other teams do to be honest.

I won't feel sorry for them at all for fecking up by moving away from a successful model to just splash cash.

True, feels like they've now wiped that out though. Haven't sold much this window so will be around -200m euros net (this season) after this next lot goes through. I guess they're waiting for some sales though to likely take that down to -150m maybe.

EDIT: I forgot too how much Chelsea have helped them out recently.

Presumably they are victims of their success to an extent, will probably prove increasingly hard for them to buy players on the cheap

On a sidenote, this makes Celtic even more financially richer than Rangers

I don't pretend to understand the intricacies of PSR, but both the Athletic and BBC have reported that we have no issues with it at all given the profit we have made in last two seasons and how we've reduced our debt at the same time. Tony Bloom has also spoken openly saying that though he dislikes clubs being deducted points during a season, it is what it is and clubs should work not to put the premier league in that position.

That aside I am astounded at our spending this window, we've never done anything like this in the entire history of the club.

That's fair, feels like if you don't get Europe though you might have to make some big sales to ensure you keep on top of it though?

I would imagine so, but that's to be expected I think, though we're spending much more this season, the model remains essentially the same, bring in younger players we think we can develop and sell on for a profit. But instead of the Caicedo example of buy for 3 million and sell for over a hundred million, it's more buy for 30 and sell for 50.

Yeah, it will get more dicey in the future for you. It's a tough ask to keep producing season after season.

At least we play them before these new players get there. But seriously, that’s a lot of dough to be spent in a summer.

All look safe enough bets, though. Baleba, Van Hecke, and Joao Pedro are some who I’d expect to shoot up in value this year. Wish we'd got Kadioglu and Minteh looks class.

Big sell on for the MK Dons, about £4m I think. Nice that one actually came through for us, we had a sell on for Delli Ali that at one point looked like it could have hit nearly £10m.

Very good signing and one that I wouldn’t have minded us getting him, especially for that price. Brighton will make a tidy profit from him.

I called this a while back, eventually it was going to happen that the Caicedo and Mitoma style deals would dry up. Now it's 20/30 million signings.

Spending more, but I think they've made close to half a billion in the last few years on sales, probably still well within PSR rules.

I see that he got injured in his Brighton debut against Crawley, needs ankle surgery and will be out for an extended period. He'd have been perfect for us.

If you saw the tackle you'll see that it was a disgraceful challenge.

It makes me so angry and upset what happened with him. Had his big move, got his debut, and immediately (like 9 minutes in) got clobbered by some no-name asshole, likely out of malice too. Now sidelined for god knows how long, recovery will be arduous (especially for ankle injuries). I really feel for him, I really do.
