Mathys Tel | talks with Bayern back on?

Quick check online suggests he hasn’t started a single game in the Bundesliga and has just 362 minutes this season - looks like he’s been fit all season too - so I can see why he’d be a bit peeved.
Tuchel has mismanaged his minutes in my opinion. He was an incredible impact sub for quite a while and was in great form. Instead of rewarding him with increased playing time, he suddenly played less and less and completely lost his form.

Predictable but a shame, a real talent. Would have loved for the United rumours to be true.

If Tel's off the table, we should go for George Ilenikhena from Royal Antwerp. Still only 17 and has 7 goals/5xG in 8.8 90s in Belgium. Scored against Barca in the CL too. From what I've seen he looks great. Reminds me of Tony Yeboah although admittedly its hard to judge on such limited minutes. Scored his first senior goals aged just 15 in Ligue 2 and was Royal Antwerp's record signing.

Wow didnt see that coming.
As much as i like Tel (He is quite a fan favorite considering his limited game time so far) he really made one or several steps back from his promising last season.

He is also no lone striker but also no real winger. Probably he would be best in a system with strikers.

How has Nkunku been for Chelsea?
I liked him at Leipzig but got the impression he declined at Chelsea.

Did Bayern sign him without a clear plan?
Bayern changed coaches a lot. No matter what the initial plan was, it might have changed.

And as @BayernFan87 mentioned, he took several steps back in his development. IMHO he should be getting minutes because there is a good player in there somewhere and he simply needs game time. We are currently at a point where he is so anxious to prove himself that he is too hectic and erratic when he gets minutes. It is a bit of a shame since he seems to love the club and everyone wants him to succeed.

He is also neither a winger nor a 9. Probably best in some kind of 442 as the second striker. A system Bayern doesn’t play.

Did Bayern sign him without a clear plan?
He was a highly talented 17yo forward when they signed him. They didn't expect him to immediately have a big impact but to develop and find his long term role in the team. So far that hasn't really happened, but I think the reasons are already well explained above me.

So he was an expensive punt?
Seems like where he would play was an abstract thought.

If there was any real plan it was to replace Choupo-Moting as backup striker with him, changing from experienced and reliable veteran to an understudy who could be tristen to be talented enough to cover for Lewandowski or later Kane. It just appears as if he isn't really that great as a lone striker as expected?

I also wouldn’t call €20m expensive for France‘s biggest striker talent at that time. If Bayern were to sell he‘d fetch more than that.

I see, I thought it was more than that.
Not a bad financial decision then.

But might it not have been better to look at Zirkzee? Id imagine he’d be a good understudy in the bundesliga.

I understand this is in hindsight

Zirkzee never looked as if he‘d be good enough to make it at Bayern. They always kept their options to get him back though but preferred to take United‘s €20m. The same amount that Tel cost funnily.

A massive disappointment.

A move back to the Bundesliga would be best for him.

I guess its moot, as the important thing is whether you can find a back up striker or have the ability to do so ;)
Would Nkunku be that guy? He seems stylistically different to Kane.

It's strange to think he's still only 19, he seems older given he already made such a big impact a couple of years ago at 17 so people thought he would be a finished product already.

He's progress has been strange to say the least though, he started as a talented striker and seemed certain to be a great one but then has been gradually moved to the wing. He hasn't looked nearly as impressive there and just seems like the run-of-the-mill get the ball on the left wing, couple of step overs, then cut inside to either shot or play an average cross. It went to the point that Muller was playing as a striker rather than him when Kane got injured.

Bayern currently really lack a backup striker and Nkunku has struggled to settle from RBs two striker system, where he fit like a glove, to Chelsea's one striker system. Don't know how he'll a solution to the problem Bayern have right now.

Has he been that bad? Just feels like he's never fit in the first place
I think it’s completely fair to say if your only good games have come in the EFL cup and conference league that it’s a major disappointment given what he did historically at Leipzig.

I don't understand why Tel didn't want to get a loan to a club where he would play. From what I remember Bayern raised this idea, but Tel declined.

Nkunku has 2 goals and 1 assist in 390 minutes of PL football, 1 goal in 1 game in FA cup, 5 goals and 3 assists in 380 minutes of ECL, 3 goals in 160 minutes of League Cup.
Just because he has no starting place with Palmer starting PL games, doesn't mean he hasn't performed when he actually gets to play. His numbers are incredible.
To call it a "massive disappointment" is disingenuous to put it mildly. In fact he has scored vastly more goals this season, 13 in all competitions, than any of our players despite not being a starter.

What would be best for him would be a move to Man United as Rashford replacement. He is a top player that is wasted at Chelsea and who would be an ideal fit for us.

He cost £65m.

For £65m I’m expecting a starter in the league. He’s been a massive disappointment. Stat padding in the conference league or EFL cup doesn’t hide that.

He got injured after he joined, then the manager had changed (twice) and Palmer had emerged who is undeniable.
Anyway, if people perceive him as a disappointment, fine with me, his price will be lower. Ideal opportunity to snatch him up. He would be the perfect fit for our system and has massive quality.

But he can’t find a place ahead of even Sancho or Madueke, nor Jackson.

Every PL game he’s played has been woeful bar Southampton and a hattrick against Barrow makes up nearly 1/4 of his goals.

Oh and 4 penalties… all in conference league against Noah, Panathinaikos and Servette.

So 7/13 over 50% from them and Barrow.

He is not a winger and not a striker. He is a left sided 10. Sounds like a position we could need?

Can you point to a game in the PL other than Southampton where he’s had a meaningful impact?

What's your point? He never starts. And when he does, out of position. Of course he won't have an impact in single digit minutes.
He’s not good enough for the PL is the point. He’s an excellent technical player but lacks the physical attributes needed to excel.

I like him, but Bayern or back to the Bundesliga would be best.

Was hoping more links to Tel here. Think he'd be a good signing, only thing is we need someone a bit more polished right now.
