Metro reporting we've agreed a deal for Mathieu Debuchy.

Arsenal have agreed a £12million deal for Newcastle United full-back Mathieu Debuchy – and will confirm the transfer after the World Cup.

Debuchy was strongly linked with a switch to Arsenal last week, with Arsene Wenger reportedly making him a top target to replace the departed Bacary Sagna.

And now the Daily Star says a £12million fee has been agreed for the player, and the deal will be officially announced once Debuchy returns from the World Cup.

The 28-year-old is currently part of the France side which has qualified for the last eight, but the team could be back home at the weekend if they lose their match with Germany on Friday night.

So, how has he been for Newcastle.

Sagna's better. Considering he's only 2 and a bit years younger than Sagna, it doesn't seem like a wise move, but fair enough.

He's preferred ahead of Sagna in the NT, so he must be decent.
*Waits for 'the best RB in the league' comment, haha

Not surprised.

I guess if it came down to Debuchy v Aurier we've gone the less-exciting but safer option. Shame as Aurier is a big Gooner fan from what I've seen.

All I can think about when I hear "Debuchy" is this and how I imagine that they are somehow related:)
(And that he could one day, possibly become as good a footballer as he was musician...)

He always seems to look good when I watch France, but shit for Newcastle. I guess thats the Pardew effect though.

Would've thought you'd had gone for Aurier over Debuchy tbh, seemed like you had him all but done.

Think Debuchy's a good player though, bit shit for Newcastle but that's more down to Pardew not letting him get forward at all. He'll be a good signing.

Decent player. No better than Sagna and won't have fans screaming his name, but he'd be solid.

Sagna was a quality player for Arsenal and seriously underrated. Debuchy is a good buy if it's true but he's not in the same league as Sagna.

Whenever i have seen him play for Newcastle he looks so shit, i remember when we played them at Sports Arena or whatever its name is, we scored four and three goals was down to him, he was soo awful defensively it was shocking. It was the match in which Kagawa and Mata destroyed them in the Second half.

By all accounts he's a much better player than he's showed at Newcastle. Decent short term option for Arsenal.

Not much of a fan of his defensively, but he's decent going forward.

Solid signing for Arsenal.

Nothing special but he will be a solid player for them and they really needed a fullback.

Much better option than Aurier for the simple reason that he's not going to Africa for a month.

Solid signing but you're not going to upgrade on Sagna whoever you buy.

Newcastle's best player last season, much improved. Still shaky defensively, though.

Definitely a downgrade from Sagna. I'm glad they've signed him.
He's the same level, in my opinion.

He'll look better in a team that actually dominates possession most of the time. Less isolated defending to do over the 90 minutes, and more time spent going forward. He'll look good there.

Not a fan at all. I hadn't seen him play much before he joined the barcodes but I was disappointed in him and think he looks bang average.
