We needed to sort our midfield more than the attack, paying 50m for this guy is neglecting our most pressing area yet again. this 50m could have secured a good Midfielder or even help with the Antony deal.

If true it means we're now Spending the Midfield budget here, This is a Classic case of the rich making poor descions.
Our only striker is a toxic version of Orville the duck. We absolutely need attackers.

There’s still two moves open for midfielders, too.

Would be the cherry on top of the cake. Signing a striker who can't score after having just signed a centre back who gets refused entry on Nemesis Inferno.
 That Nemesis line though.

Money's not a problem.

This signing only makes sense if Ronaldo stays, surely. It's all well and good signing a facilitator that presses well, creates, but who's he creating space and opportunities for? A load of blokes that don't score many goals.

Well assuming if Ronaldo leaves for free, it’s pretty much gives us €30m of his salary and €20m James Garner, that will be where the 50m came from. We should still have enough money to buy FDJ and Rabiot if the transfer budget is actually £150m as per reported since we only have 50m net spend so far.

Actually....this signing i like a lot. Watched him few times and he looks great. Sign him

This is another red herring to add to the stack of dead fish transfer rumours we've had stinking out the gaff this summer

Do we rate any of our targets outside De Jong, sometimes these kind of unknowns can really surprise you.

He played as a 9/Striker here at Coritiba Youth. Don't know for sure if he has the stature to play as a 9 in the PL.

How tf was I to know that was a joke? Also how does a Welshman end up in Bubbabama?

Well you see what had happened was. I met a girl from Alabama who was in Cardiff studying and somehow ended up married and it has all been downhill from there. Now I am surrounded by rednecks and if I watch "soccer" with them they bang on about how you have to get your shot "on frame" and force "turnovers" which sadly does not mean delicious apple filled pastries. I can just about handle that the things on the players feet are called "cleats" but if one more person refers to using your noggin to score as a "head-shot" I will not be responsible for my actions.

Loads complaining about the price, how many games hes played etc. Everyone knows we’re going to pay a premium on players now that selling clubs know our situation. We’ll have no choice but to pay or else be stuck with the squad we have.

I remember when Robben left Madrid, the amount on here who didn’t want ‘Madrid Rejects’, then he was fantastic for Bayern. Same with a few others. Same being said here, because Cunha isn’t a regular starter for Atletico. Doesn’t mean he can’t shine for us.

Wonder how many were saying Mane, Salah, Diaz etc aren’t good enough…

His goalscoring record is… underwhelming. 1 goal in 4 wont cut it..

That's 0.51 goals per 90 in La Liga last season. 89th percentile among strikers in the big five leagues. While playing for a side not exactly known for attack.

I don't need no Vardy (no)
I don't need no Nunez (no thanks)
I don't want no Haaland (not today)
You can keep Arnautovic
I'm a Cunha junkie (what?)
I'm a Cunha junkie (tell 'em again)
I'm a Cunha junkie (tell 'em again)
And I like it funky (yeah)

too soon?!

I'm all for signing anyone to replace the cack starters we have, especially if they're coming from a team that is run ragged by their manager.

So we're buying a 23 year old Brazilian international attacker who cannot head the ball or score reliably or play as a no.9 and hasn't played enough games to even be considered LaLiga proven, but can press like a maniac?

Spurs just signed a Brazilian attacker of a similar age this summer who can head the ball, has excellent hold up play, can score reliably, can lead the line, is completely PL proven and also presses like a madman for roughly the same price. And quite a few on this forum (including myself) weren't too envious of them at the time. How standards have fallen over a few weeks!

Cool. So you'll call them in May and say......?

"Hi, I'm calling from Manchester United and I'm interested in X player....."

You think because it's May, they won't screw is?
Other big clubs generally manage it..? I don't really get your argument. Are you saying selling teams have an ulterior motive when it comes to dealing with United?

On topic; this is much more exciting than the Arnautovic and Morata links. For that alone, we should get him.

I lived in Tennessee from 2000 to 2010, I know how you feel but my wife and me are great and shes in Ireland with me now. She prefers it here. feck Trumpland. I also coached football (soccer) there for the whole time. American parents are the absolute fecking worst. I hope you can get home eventually.

If only I had the slightest trust in our scouts I'd say I'm confident they see something in him his stats don't.

I think just "signing anyone" is a part of the reason the club is in this mess.

It's nothing compared to the issue of having a load of over entitled, lazy idiots that are past their best starting every game.

How on earth do United approach clubs for players and not get price gouged.

I'm asking all the people moaning about the fee......please explain how you, a United representative would go about this....?
3rd party agents enquiring about price to no specific suitor.

Would love to but my kids are in school here for another 10 years plus so it is a pipe dream right now, my oldest is at least a United fan but the poor bugger is 15 and has no idea we were ever any good. I keep telling him and then we get smashed by Brentford and he looks at me like I betrayed him

Exactly. Everyone moans we overpay yet no one actually says how they would approach clubs and get those fees down.

Start of the window, before we played any matches, we probably could have landed one or two really good players - now we're screwed.

We are trying to sell playing for a club that lost 4-0 against Brentford, which Cristiano desperately wants to leave because he thinks our squad's attitude is shit, a club where quite literally everyone who has walked through the door in the past 10 years has become a worse player, a graveyard for talent where significant talent stagnate, a club where manager's careers are set-back years and a club that will spend ages penny-pinching for no discernable reason what so ever.

We're a bad sell, and the only way to attract anyone is to pay over the odds. The sooner we realise that, the less concerned we can be about overpaying. It's not about overpaying, but paying for the right players. Not that we should be confident that we are getting the right people. This guy is likely our 7th-8th choice - behind Nunez (Liverpool), Haaland (City), Lautaro (Refused), Dembele (refused), Werner (Leipzig) and Sesko (Leipzig), that Brazilian prodigy (too raw), could be more.

Given how superstitious some players are, I wouldn't be at all surprised if a solid chunk of them believe the club is cursed.
