Mata to Barcelona

Nah Mata is better than Silva was. Mata is a match winner, these are harder players to get a hold of and much harder to replace their goals. Valencia are better now than they were last season when they had Villa, Silva, Marchena and Alexis and one of the three main reasons is Mata (others Banega and Soldado)

Valencia could still use money like last season, but why sell a better player at the same price? He's on a long contract and he's more important to the club, the fee is going up. And thats the only reason I'm not pulling hard for us to go and sign him. Because quite rightly the fee is going to be way up there and we have more pressing matters than a left winger or a player to go in the hole. If that was our number 1 concern then Mata or Sanchez, yes please.

I'm surprised no clubs got to him ahead of time and let him know they'd be interested come the summer, now the fee will be north of £25M.

Maybe they did and he wasnt interested? Besides in recent years Valencia have done a great job convincing their players to do right by the club in terms of when and where they leave. Villa, Silva, Marchena, etc. all being ready to go when the club needs to sell them and not pushing for it themselves.

He is a very good player, what happened with him early in his career I saw he had a year at Real

That's great for the club and shows maybe not every player is the money leeching scumbag the modern game seems to have churned out.

Never given a debut. Madrid arent known for giving their young players chances. Mata wasnt so Valencia picked him up when his contract ran out. Negredo is another player who wasnt given a chance. Granero another - but they bought him back a year after selling him to Getafe.

They get good talents coming through but they have a problem giving them games.

Definitely not, lest we forget that last season there were multiple months where Valencia players werent able to be paid. I believe it was a case of late payments rather than no payments at all, but any mercenaries would surely have jumped ship as soon as possible. Valencia's good players didnt do that and deserve credit for it

Is there a reason Valencia have inspired such loyalty, not afforded most teams?

Perhaps the dire situation they were in last year actually unified the players. And the example set by Villa and Silva who were obviously well respected at the club. Valencia also have a lot of Spanish players and some they developed themselves.

I can see Mancini going for him. He's a sucker for anyone who comes good in the hole as he too came good in the hole back in the day. But that sorta thing ain't cheap. Especially considering Mata's age, which means he'll be able to come better and better in the hole for a long time.

Villa and Silva were certainly shining examples to the other players, hopefully Banega isn't as adamant. :D

 I have to admit I found great entertainment in watching Mata come good in the hole. I wasnt keen at first but now I'm converted
