Well, like the POTUS said. He could walk onto the street, shoot someone dead and his supporters would still follow him. Just sums up the mentality over there. As horrific as these incidents are, the outside world will become desensitized to all these shootings in the US in time.

Its a matter of getting politicians who are amenable to voting for gun control. Right now, the congress and Presidency are in the hands of a party who aren't interested, so it will take a whole sale change of control of both congress and the presidency.
Which itself requires wholesale change of public opinion, although I've heard quite a majority are in favour of gun control. Just the NRA and lobbyists who aren't.
I don't believe in all this mental illness talk whenever this happens in the US. Especially when its a white dude. If you dig deep enough I'm sure you could blame every violent crime ever on some form of 'mental illness'

It's true though - that the media and politicians will spin these tragedies to suit their own agendas. That said, if you're shooting people because you have just lost a bloody game I think 'mental problems' is a reasonable conclusion.

Well a POTUS was shot dead and you'd argue that was the ultimate...maybe not. But guns are still very much part of the American way of life. So I don't think nothing will change that. Even young kids getting mown down is not enough to stop the dumb ass gun lobbyists and sympathizers arguing for their right to bear arms.

I don’t get it either. The connection doesn’t seem to make sense to me, but a lot of these extreme right wing types refer to themselves as “gun toting god fearing Americans”. At least that’s what I’ve seen on twitter quite a lot. I really can’t see what the connection between the two is besides both being liked by these types of people.
