Gaming Mass Effect: Legendary Edition

Okay I’m already enjoying this way more than I thought I would. That push ability is good fun.

Still nothing for me :( Doesn't unlock on Origin til 4pm anyway for some reason.

If you do get it before 4pm you can download it now on the EA Desktop app rather than Origin. I'm downloading it now in preparation for this evening as there doesn't seem to be a way to download ME1 first and the whole package is 100Gb

Let’s goooooo
Looks like a PS5. I thought ME was only MS.

The first game originally came out on the Xbox360 and only got ported to the PS3 five years later. ME2's PS3 port came a year after the Xbox/PC release, and ME3 was released for all platforms simultaneously.

Temptation is very real. £60 is quite steep especially when I bought Returnal 2 weeks ago for £70 . My addiction isn't gaming, it's buying the bloody things and then not finishing them.

I'm a nightmare for that. I've recently got the first few Yakuzas, RE8 and today this...I haven't even started any of them yet and I was looking at the sales today

I just got the code there and I'm able to preload on Origin!

Haha same! Think I must have at least 250 that I bought during sales. Ridiculous, and I can almost guarantee I won't play about 75% of them.

Not rich, just a dumbass. (besides the Yakuza games were something like a tenner each on sale, so I got 0 and Kiwami 1).

Yeah I do like it. The mrs has cleared the lot so I figured I'd do it, but with my attention span I really need to be in the mood to play it so it's going to be a long journey

Gameplay seems dated at times but the story is so so fun

I have this too. I buy so many games I never play. I've played like 1 hour of Yakuza Zero, then on a whim i though, I'm going to see what this Dynasty warriors is all about (my God it's rubbish). Last week I bought Ys 9, some weird RPG which Ive yet to play and now Mass Effect, which I actually will end up playing.

I wish I was a kid again when I got like 1 game a year and played it for weeks and weeks.

I wish I was like you and could buy that many games !

Yeah it's one of those times I know exactly what to expect, and so I'm playing them for the story experience. Plus with the main series going turn based, I think I'll enjoy that a lot more so I want to catch up.

But yeah from what I've seen watching her, they are all batshit. I'm looking forward to piecing it all together and seeing why!

The mix of very serious (and good) crime story and completely ridiculous side stories is brilliant in Yakuza.

Managed to bag this for £38 on PC. Downloading it now.

Been years since I have punched that reporter. I cant wait to do it again with better graphics

Is the gameplay still a bit old school or does it stand up to modern times?

I've been extra dumb with it lately. Mostly though It's because I've been looking for a new game for us to try on the discord server, but still it's oddly more fun sometimes getting sale deals than playing the games themselves. It's kind of like when you scroll through Netflix and never end up watching anything because you've done that for 2 hours!

Yeah the characters all look fun too.

It’s deffo a little old school but the dialogue seems pretty good. Quite enjoying the lore too so far even if it slightly going over my head.

Awesome, I need to finish ghosts off before I jump into another big single player game but might go for it then.

1 didn’t age as badly as I feared after reading some reviews. The updates helped it a lot. You’re still going to have to get used to unsatisfying melee, limited cover mechanics, and not having a combat roll until you get into the next games. It’s more tactical than a fast-paced shooter which some may actually prefer.

That‘s why I recommend a power heavy class like Adept or Sentinel first time around. Though with the updated sniper mechanics a sniper-Infiltrator would probably be fun. And if you want to role-play as one class the whole trilogy an INF gets really fun in 2-3.

I cranked uo the difficulty to veteran. On normal you can just bonsai everything.

Aaah cool I’ll try that! Thank you.

I know what you meant, and not trying to be a dick, but banzai is the one where you charge headlong at the enemy.

Bonsai is the Japanese thing where they grow tiny trees. Although if there is an option to just launch a plant at Saren, this is the greatest game of all time.

Fair point.

I never realised that you can have an awkward conversation with Kaiden and Ashley on the Citadel overlooking the ward near the market. Played the first game about five times through and never saw that.

I also forgot how monumentally shit the gameplay is in the first one. I must have been in awe of the conversation mechanics to not notice it before.

For ME1, which is the better level scaling; legendary or classic mode?
Legendary, unless you’re some sort of Bioware purist. On classic you have to go through the first game twice to max out everything. Legendary makes it possible in one play through.

And I recommend the 2nd hardest difficulty, unless you’re just running through 1 to get to 2-3.

Cheers. No purist run for me. ME2&3 are by far the better games but I'll take my time with them all.

The gameplay is a load of old rubbish that's for sure. Not a bad option for the story if that's your thing, with the spruced up graphics looking quite nice. But the combat is just terrible - easy, lacking variety, lacking any kind of interesting mechanics, just sitting behind walls. I would not have got this if I'd played the originals, not a chance at all.
