How's it misplaced. He was awfulI understand why, even if I think it’s misplaced.

It’s not tribalism to disagree about something.
He had a reasonable game against Iran but was still probably our weakest player across our forward line. And that's on a good day where everything we did worked.I mean he had a pretty good game against iran its not like the rest of team were world beaters tonight.
I mean look at the comments, folk are so quick to jump at his back, southgate has his favorites, I don't see so much hate for the others.
I agree I think Mount at domestic level is relatively decent. Never thought of him to be a typical 8 or defensively a 6.
International football is certainly not the total end judgement of a players ability but Southgate does have a habit of magnifying a players weaknesses by nullifying their strengths. Rashford on the right is a good example. Kane looked immobile, doesn't really bring much to the build up of the team
I think if a more fluid forward player was on tonight the midfield would have had more of a foothold in the game due to more spaces being available from the movement.
Highly doubt you’d come in the Mount thread and be like “meh” though. It’s your natural instinct to want to defend him and that’s fine.

He's always been overrated. He shows up against the bottom teams but then goes into hiding against good teams. For someone so hyped up he's crazy inconsistent just like a certain someone we had.Cafés hate boner for him is strange.
Funny how it’s only the Chelsea fans that are making excuses for him.
He’s just a posh man’s Dele Alli.
Maybe on here because there aren’t many of us but trust me mate, Chelsea fans are his biggest critics. He’s a divisive player at a club level too.
They were both shit. Both should have been subbed. In fact the whole team could have been subbed off bar Maguire and I can’t believe I’m saying that. Maddison is not a CM, Foden is not a CM and Grealish is not a CM. Perhaps that’s why Mount is being shoehorned in there.Taking off Bellingham instead of Mount was strange.
Mind you, starting Mount over Foden (or even Maddison or Grealish) is probably even more perplexing.
Well to start with your tag is Chelsea. No bias there. Secondly they were the better players. Just saying. It’s not tribalism to disagree about something.
never a truer word spoken. Some just dislike him, some think hes a decent player all round, and some just overhype him.Maybe on here because there aren’t many of us but trust me mate, Chelsea fans are his biggest critics. He’s a divisive player at a club level too.
If you think either of those will afford, let alone sign Mount, I'll have some of what you've taken. He's the sort of player that Chelsea will bin off to West Ham or Everton in the not so distant future. Definitely not an England starter.
Then you won't be going anywhere meaningfulIf you think either of those will afford, let alone sign Mount, I'll have some of what you've taken.
Genuinely dont think he will ever leave, same with Reece James
to be honest people are just questioning why he gets in over someone like Foden who is 100x the player.
its becoming pretty obvious mount is one of southgates favourites.
I agree. The structure of the team is passive and as a unit they are not functioning in the right manner. The attacks are too few and far between and I fear England are only expressive when they are ahead and front runners during a match.I don’t entirely agree. I think the Mount criticism is warranted to an extent. I’m trying to add some context to his situation as I see it (not that others don’t see it or think it’s important enough to make a difference). Nobody in the team impressed me. Some were worse than others.

Projecting on what? Seriously Mount was woeful tonight like most of the England team. The original post was about Maguire and Shaw being England's better players, which is true.Well maybe you’re just projecting? Considering you’re not upset about my defence of Mount but that I had a less than enthused response to someone who said Maguire and Shaw had good games.
He's so, so, so shite for England.
I don't watch enough of Chelsea to really rate him properly at club level but he's been poor whenever I've seen him this season.
For England he's a total no mark. It's like watching Van De Beek for us.
He is Deli Ali 2.0 Nobody is sure how he plays, including himself, so gets away with running around the place. As soon as teams cop he is useless he is off to TurkeyHe's tidy on the ball and industrious but will not take the game by the scruff of the neck or able to play poorly and produce a moment of magic out of nowhere like say a foden or even our own bruno
We won the Champions League with Mount being one of our best players throughout that campaign. He's absolutely proven that he can contribute at the very highest level. "Won't be going anywhere meaningful"? Absolute nonsense. Then you won't be going anywhere meaningful

He was shit tonight for sure, no worse than about 8 other England players.
There's a reason every manager he's ever had loves him, he's a top player.
Seriously, triggered, what are you 12 and a Musk fan boy? Maguire and Shaw were England's better players tonight. And if you genuinely think on a Man United forum Maguire is a great player well I guess you've ignored this forum for the last 2 years. It’s not that deep, so no point in keeping this back and forth going but I guess what I mean is you told me to leave tribalism at the door because I said meh about someone praising Shaw and Maguire’s performances. That’s what triggered you, not my (admittedly a bit blinkered) defence of Mount, so perhaps the person engaging in tribalism here is you?
