For 300k a week he better play like it or else I'll be one of those fan who would call him out after every bad performance.
He also had the most G+A during his time here until recently. If I remember correctly it was Bruno who surpassed him but I could be wrong. But it was still surprising how productive he was even though he mostly played out wide and the last time he had played more than 2000 minutes in the premier league was 2015/2016. If Mount can replicate that, I think he will be a very successful signing.Could very well be. Mata’s G+A stats for Chelsea in the two seasons 2011-2013 were insane, like GOAT level.
He has all the qualities to play there. May be aerially he is weak other than that he has all the traits to play as a midfielder especially a no.8.He played central midfielder under Tuchel?
Bolded part, you don't think Mount will play next to Casemiro?
If he gets those 300k, that will be the sign he plays great. Otherwise he is not getting that. For 300k a week he better play like it or else I'll be one of those fan who would call him out after every bad performance.
Let me add some context his stats at the time were amazing because he played over 100 games for Chelsea in those 2 seasonsCould very well be. Mata’s G+A stats for Chelsea in the two seasons 2011-2013 were insane, like GOAT level.
Do we have anyone worthwhile who could actually do this?Managers love him and I trust EtH's judgment. I remember thinking Southgate was foolish in persisting with him over some of the other players at one of the more recent tournaments but he's clearly got something that managers like (workrate being an obvious outstanding attribute)
Against weaker opponents i can see him operating in the 8 role but against the better ones he or Bruno could easily operate on the wing and another more defensive player could go alongside Casemiro. It gives more options.
That example means nothing, because Mata was a great player used mostly wrong in our team.Iirc Mata also won their Player of the Year awards twice. Those awards meant nothing.

Passing, movement, pressing, long diagonals, switch play, through balls, crosses, strong in possession, rarely lose possession when under pressure he has all. He is decent two footer as well can make decent pass with either foot and has good shot with both feets.
You got the better deal than arsenal with mount.

2011-12 54 games 12g 20a
2012-13 64 games 19g 35a
He was their main set piece taker at the time just like Mount was their main set piece taker
Combo | Vision | Workrate | Tackling | Playmaking | Ball Carrying (+ ability to turn in tight spaces) | Short Passing | Switches of play | rotations / crossing from the half space |
Fred / Bruno / Case | ||||||||
Eriksen / Bruno / Case | ||||||||
Your favorite midfield pairing |
As if I work at the clubYou said it first.
Brilliant signing. Good price.
Casemiro, Mount and Fernandes is a midfield with a lot of energy and pressing ability. Also very technically accomplished too. Mount will add a lot of legs to the middle of the park and a great balance between defensive nous and attacking impetus. I like this signing a lot. More than anything, what ETH will get from this signing is a player who follows instructions very well, works really hard, is tactically astute, and can really ping a pass. Another goal threat from midfield too. With Eriksen as fourth choice, for the first time in a long time, we have an abundance of quality in midfield. And a lot of variety that compliments itself well.
Very happy to have gotten this over the line early so he can have a full preseason with the squad. Now I’d love us to sign another defender, one who can play rb and cb preferably - Pavard fits the bill perfectly - and of course, the thing we need the most - a striker. Onana to replace De Gea. At that point I am happy with the squad for now.
Outgoings wise, Maguire, AWB, one of McFred, VdB, Telles all need to be moved on. In the case of AWB it is only to make room for a better and more versatile player in Pavard. If he isn’t coming, I’d keep AWB. Greenwood should go out on loan, as should Pellestri. Hannibal should be sold, along with Henderson while their value is fairly high. Put a buy back clause in Hannibal’s deal. Sancho is last chance saloon and only stays because of the FFP situation. Martial stays because we have no strikers.
It's one of those signings where I'm not disappointed, but I'm not exactly excited about it either.
Is he a good player? Yes. Does he improve the overall quality of the squad? Does he turn us into title and/or CL contenders? No.
Signing a Rice or a Kane would, in my opinion, but not Mount. A decent signing, but we need more than him.

If you believe signing Declan Rice would turn us into Premier League or Champions League winners I reckon you need to watch a bit more Declan Rice.
We already have someone who plays the same role as Rice just to a dramatically higher level. We have no one who can do what Mount will do for us nearly as well.
I think Rice is an amazing player, I think he's going to tear it up at Arsenal next season. Maybe I'm overrating him, but on the other hand I think he's underrated on this forum.
At United, I wouldn't see him in Casemiro's role, I'd see him as a box-to-box midfielder with a license to get forward and join the attack.
Hey, I could be wrong and he might be an absolute flop at Arsenal next season, and I'll be back on here saying "thank God we didn't sign that donkey", but right now I don't envisage that.
I am looking forward to seeing how Mount does for us next season though.
Signing a Rice or a Kane alone won't make us contenders either. But signing a Mount, one of the many missing pieces in the puzzle -- will allow us to go after a better-quality striker and other positions.
We are never going to be contenders next season. Compete maybe.
Last season we got the skeleton of what ETH needs. In this coming window hopefully, we will plug in the gaps. And then following summer window, we build squad-depth and only then can we be contenders.
My biggest confusion is who exactly is paying for these new players in the middle of a takeover? The glazers? Even though they might be selling. The new owners? What new owners...

Imo we'd need to fix our first XI before thinking about backups. Especially with a limited budget.Mount is a good signing. But we do need a backup for Casemiro
The club is paying for them using funds allocated for transfers in their budget. My biggest confusion is who exactly is paying for these new players in the middle of a takeover? The glazers? Even though they might be selling. The new owners? What new owners...
£60m for Mount. The world really has gone crazy.
He better come out good because if not after the likes of Sancho, Antony, Lukaku etc for big money we really will need to just bin our whole transfer department and start afresh.
No, he played in a slow style with patient build up under Tuchel,
I just can’t see where you got Mount = counter attack relying on moments when the opposite would be true.
I don't. You don't spend 55 mil on a player to play him out of position. We will change system and play with no6 and two no8.
A stupid statement. Didn’t he win the CL with Chelsea? Played a big role that season. You wouldn’t think the likes of Henderson would play a key role in the scousers winning the league but he did.We pay English players shitloads for doing nothing.
It's a shit deal as potentially I don't see Mount ever becoming a key player in a team likely to win premier league.
City?Which succesful team plays with two attacking midfielders in midfield?
