Very good post. If Greenwood play for one of the top teams, the stat could easily be doubled or even tripled. Suddenly it's a world class stats for an attacking player.
Not that I am defending Greenwood cos I think he is a prick (to say the least) but in terms of just playing, he is playing for Getafe, not Barcelona so it's not bad when you factor in he hasn't played in 2 years

His stats/performances overall I'd say are decent - good and certainly not at a level of such a magnitude that it's worth the aggro that would come with his return.
best post in this thread.If you've watched any of his games, he does sweet FA defensively for Getafe and that is born out in the stats too. His output isn't lower because he's putting in a defensive shift, it's clearly because he was rusty as feck. His performances should be good enough for us to take a gamble on him still having the potential he once had.
Very possibly but I would expect them numbers to go up once he is with a team on his level
I think that's a reach as if he tripled he would be Haaland/ Salah levels of output but if he does get his head down and kick on as we first predicted (A few years back) there is definite scope for improvement and with an improvement of team mates, quality that would help.
I don't think he does a lot of "Tackling" per se but I have seen an improvement whereby his manager spoke out earlier in the year saying he needed more defensively and he does get back now and press/ block passing lanes but he isn't a defensive winger, no. Again, I think it's easy to say "He isn't doing this" but it's clear he is their most creative output, you only have to look at Mayoral who scored 8 last year, 6 the year before and suddenly 15 in less games already and he is starting to make runs and get in positions because he can feel Greenwood's ability.
He doesn't do a lot of anything defensively - blocks, interceptions, clearances. Again, I think you're inferring this rather than actually any hard evidence to suggest this is the reason in Mayoral's form. He'd already scored 3 in his first 6 games without playing with Greenwood and is . Obviously it's helped, but I think you're overstating a lot about Greenwood's impact - Diego Rico is actually their most creative output. I don't think we need to overstate it, it's good on it's own merits, with obvious areas for improvement.
Because if you bothered to watch the performances and looked at the team he played for you would see in a team which has more of the ball and more xG its more likely his stats would improve than decline or stay the same.
If he plays at the same level he would produce more by the fact he would get into more opportunities to produce. If his performances were worse then he stats could decline etc
What I'm saying is that there are no guarantees he will improve, just as there are no guarantees he will decline.
In another, normal situation it would be fine to take that risk but it's not a normal situation. He would have had to have had an exceptional season to be considered and he hasn't.
It’s funny how I see ‘playing for an inferior team’ used on both sides of the argument to fit a narrative. Often you’ll hear how a players stats are only good at lower level, and that they would struggle to replicate those stats at a bigger team.
Next season we could have Greenwood, Garnacho, Mainoo, Kambwala, Hojlund and Amad starting games for us. Hope this will the start of something special for our club again.
Suddenly seeing this a lot. I said at the start he needs a full year till we see what’s left in his tank, but people were calling for him to come back in January and be our “best attacker”. It was literally me and a couple of people saying that. Now it’s convenient to argue that he hasn’t played in 2 years. I wonder why. Boy wonder not been doing much

They're all young and highly talented, but concerns about the player whose name I bolded are not unwarranted. I'm in the camp that believes that if -- note the word "if" -- he has truly repented and apologized for what he did then he should be welcome back but imany United supporters would be appalled and disgusted.
What a tragedy as before all this came to light his future was bright and looked a far more massive talent than any of Rashford or Garnacho or Hojlund. And don't anyone even dare put Antony or Sancho in the same sentence as pre-madness Greenwood.
Hopefully a sensible enough collection of young men who would want nothing to do with him.
I didn't say it but when you see who was playing and how in Antony and Rashford it's not too surprising

Has anyone actually thought what’s best for Greenwood as a person and human being? It is clear as day going back to England would be traumatising for him and his young family. I’m of the opinion that he should never play for United again but there is a bigger overarching narrative that people forget. footballers are living and breathing people too. Greenwood needs to get on with his life far away from United.
Maybe he wants to stick it out and move back to Manchester with his family and get on with his life at Manchester United.
Not really, because what's "best" is we just all forget about it and bring him back to the club. United is his boyhood club, his family is from the north west, he gets paid a fortune by us and he won't get paid better anywhere else. No ones asking him to be put into stocks in the centre of Manchester and he's had it pretty fecking easy compared to most scenarios like this.
I've checked and there was a whopping 1 (one) performance related post about his last game, by @AngeloHenriquez. When he doesn't do well there are far more messages complaining about the lack of football talk or the prevalence of the non-football talk than football talk. I for one I'm shocked.
Yes he was an exceptional finisher, for me the best I've seen come out of the Academy the last 30 years... What a talent.
But another example talent alone isn't enough to be a top professional footballer...

I don't think he'll ever play for us again, but I do wonder how much of a boost he'd have to give us for people to forget everything. If he won the golden boot and took us to #21 would people still refuse to celebrate? Would he be booed if he won the Ballon D'Or? Humans are strange. Countless examples in football of players being despicable humans and it all being forgotten after they win trophies for their club (although not as visceral of an example as the IG/recordings that came with Greenwood's issues)
Honestly with our spending limits in place and from a fiscal standpoint (not the background issues) it would make sense to bring him back to be the back up for Højlund instead of Martial.

With FFP in play, those clubs who don't want to pay can just take a long walk off a short plank. United will not be mugged and sell him cheaply as what happened was no fault of the club. Unlike say City facing 115 charges, all of which if they are found in breach would be very much the fault of the club. Perspective.

Now, to be disgustingly frank here - yes, it would help if the player actually was an undoubted world beater. Because...that's just how the world works.
But the reality is that he isn't (an undoubted world beater).
And for that reason, I don't think INEOS will be bothered to bring him back. They aren't idiots (we hope). They will know it's not worth it.
