Mason Greenwood | Officially a Marseille player

Can't see Rashford staying if he's relegated to a bench role.

Neither can I and it would be a decision our new org structure could need to make for this summer.

If Rashford doesn't look like he's a player that can take us to win a league or champions league in the next 2 or 3 years, do we give Garnacho the space to see how high his ceiling is, and bring in a Rashford replacement which could be an experienced player that suits what Ten Hag wants.

Read @Woziak post above for how it could work

In theory it's great, but I doubt we could get £120m combined for Sancho, Antony and Pellestri. I don't think we'll be able to get £40m for any of them.

And the United tax on the 2 x signings to replace them is going to cost alot more than we receive for those 3.

I'd suggest we're more likely to get £16m for Pellestri, £25m for Sancho because of his wages, and £35m for Antony.

A roughly combined £76m wouldn't get two of the mentioned potential players to sign. Maybe one and change.

Financially, keeping Greenwood and selling Antony, Sancho and Pellestri to replace them with one good player, makes more sense to me. It also means we could have two young winger/forwards with high potential.

We can disagree. That's just my take.

Sorry I should have been specific, that if we get 40m for MG it may not seem much but in FFP as a homegrown, it can go a long way

Don't understand the stance that I've seen a few times that we shouldn't pocket the money that we get with this sale. Nonsense reason for people to shit on us as usual

Nominated for La Liga young player of the month - looks like a public vote so unlikely to win with a Barca & Real player in there

I still think that the best place for Greenwood, his girlfriend and their kid is away from the England and the premier league. The media coverage they'll both get will be awful.

Live in the sun, let your kid grow up multilingual and and in a place where they don't have to grow up hearing their dad have "rapist" screamed at him every Saturday.
Agree with this. For all the debate on whether the club should bring him back or not, there's every chance he simply decides he doesn't want to.

It’s probably about both. The club has repeatedly said that Greenwood has made mistakes / done wrong but also that there is a decision to make. In addition to what you share SJR also says that “come to fair decision on the basis of values which is basically is he a good guy or not”. So in addition to pondering A) did Greenwood do a disgusting thing (which he most likely did) B) will the fans want him representing the club (probably not but possibly needs revisiting) they may consider C) whether he has reformed himself sufficiently for a career at United being a possibility.

At the end of the day, what Greenwood appears to have done was horrific. At the same time, given his age at the time, him learning much needed lessons in humanity would obviously be the best outcome from this on a personal level so nobody has to suffer from those actions at his hands again. If he has done that, and I’m nobody to judge then I personally don’t see an issue with him playing for us again. But that’s a huge IF - I dont know if you can really go from disgusting scum bag to decent person. I’m sure it’s happened given people learn but it’s a big call and surely must be the exception to the rule.

Surely points A & B are enough to conclude that he can't play for the club ever again. SJR did make reference in his interview to speaking directly to him and seeing if he's changed, but how on earth do you make that judgment fairly? No one will be able to judge his character once he's behind closed doors. Greenwood is massively under the spotlight in Spain, so I've no doubt he'll be behaving like a model citizen in public.

No one is saying he can't rebuild his life and his football career. He just can't do it at Manchester United and probably in the Premier League. The risk of him not changing from "disgusting scum bag to decent person" is too great. Even if he is remorseful and a different person now, it isn't the club's responsibility to rebuild his career. He created this mess, so we owe him nothing. We've already been more than accommodating in helping him.

For the first time since Sir Alex, INEOS have brought genuine optimism to the club. No matter what Greenwood can do on the pitch, the severely negative circus surrounding him will never disappear. We don't need him.

It will probably go to wonderkid of the moment Yamal. Only 16 and is already contributing goals for them.

Because their quality as a footballer isn't, and shouldn't be, the deciding factor on whether it's right for them to continue to play for the club in the wake of allegations of attempted rape and domestic violence. One person doesn't deserve more lenience than the other because they're a good footballer.

I'm not totally clued up on the Antony situation, so forgive me if this isn't correct, but my understanding is that charges have not (or possibly not yet) been brought against him but if they are, he'll probably also be suspended pending the outcome - and that's why he's still available in the squad.

The evidence in the public domain is probably also a factor.

Thank you for your reasonable and non-accusatory reply mate! Appreciate it.

I never said and believed that what Mason did was marginal (and I don't get why people assume I did).
What he did was/ is terrible, but at the same time the allegations against Antony were pretty serious too (atleast from what I've read/ heard) and I couldn't understand why the club was done with it so quickly. Just because there is no prosecution doesn't mean the crime didn't happen.
I'll let it go now though. Your answer has given me enough perspective on things to understand why the club might have reacted differently.

How you guys getting on today? I told you they were ruthless and I told you they will do ANYTHING to win. That includes employing people with very dodgy pasts in Greenwood, Berrada and Brailsford.
So you could go back 3 weeks ago to quote me, but you couldn't be arsed to go back a few hours to see what i think?

Or you saw what i wrote and didn't include it because your bizarre "gotcha" would fall flat on its face. I'll go with that.

No it was £120m for all 4 ; Mason Greenwood (40m), Sancho(35m), Antony(30m) and Facundo (15m)

If Mason scores and assists another 10 goals this season say 50m for him and 25m for Antony or 30m for Sancho, we should also remember that Alvaro Fernandez, Hannibal and Shola Shoretire like Mason are all homegrown products so they represent 100% profit on your books as they have no transfer fee amortised. So selling those 4 for £70m is miles better than selling a player like Casemiro for £40m and getting rid of his £15m per year contract as the club still has 3 instalments of £14m(club paid £70m on a 5 year contract) which is £42m to be offset against the £40m received, the club only benefits from Casemiro wages however selling 4 academy products for £70m is pure profit and therefore added to your net transfer fund.
Hope this helps ?

There's no maybe about it. This thread has truly gone to shit again.
I don't think it helps much when on every page there's posts like "this thread has brought all the dregs out" and "loving all the hot takes in this car crash of a thread", and on the reverse "all of you lot on top of moral mountain". If people are so dumbfounded by what they read in here, why not just stick it on ignore? Surely there's other stuff you can spend your time doing?

Oh was that you, I thought it was me.
 I'm amazed anyone would read the comments section of the DM and think it's a good source for reasoned opinion. Scratch that, I'm amazed anyone would read the comments section of the DM full stop.
your smart take is different than mine. It’s fine.

For me, he has been cleared, back with his partner and back on the pitch. The club’s statement mentioned that evidence they reviewed showed the whole context. He did make a mistake, but what is the extent of that mistake we don’t know, but seems smaller than what the public recordings show.

he might end up playing for atletico madrid or barcelona, from rumors, why not us?
He hasn't been cleared. The charges have been dropped. There's a difference.

That’s my point we need to unite not fight, so those fans that do want him back, would you still feel the same way if the club had scored 100 goals this season made it out of the CL group and been competing for a title ?

And for those that don’t want him back for obvious reasons would your opinion change if you heard a longer transcript that may or may not change the context of the audio heard?

Whether he should or should not return, the most likely scenario is he’s looking like potentially the easiest player to sell for a reasonable transfer fee of £40-50m. He’s 22, an outstanding talent but huge questions over his moral character whose only on £75k per week and more importantly he’s homegrown which means Atletico, Juventus, Inter, Milan, Barcelona and maybe even Bayern or Dortmund are all capable of affording the player, whether all of those team will want the baggage that comes with the transfer remains to be seen?

i think it's a pretty smart approach by Sir Jim to be non-committal about what may or may not happen with Mason until they do their own deep dive into it plus probably get feedback from Mason and his family

they'll be one or two teams from spain interested but i don't see them willing to spend the 40m that's rumored to be required to sign him

 Rather than having reasoned debate you want censorship. Sad really
You haven't provided any sources to your "online comments" claim and so i had a peek (unfortunately) at the Daily Mail, England's most popular newspaper for some reason.

I clicked on the link to Dani Alves sentencing and multiple top comments bemoan how in the UK footballers "get away with it".

The top comments on their recent Greenwood article explaining that Ratcliffe opened the door for his return all widely condemn him.

Links:
Ratcliffe opens door to return
Dani Alves sentencing

This directly contradicts what you claimed.

How am i dumbfounded? Why would i stick it on ignore? And based on the number of banning and warnings in the past few hours, i am correct in the assertion that the thread had gone to shit.

I agree with you, and to answer your question in bold, my answer is that if there was new evidence that proved Greenwood didn't domestically abuse his partner and the audio of attempted rape was fabricated, i would welcome him back.

Have you guys seen this ridiculous article?
I mean, it's one thing saying the player shouldn't return, but saying the club can't keep the funds from his sale is absolutely nuts. I'm sure revenue gained by the news outlet from this article will be keep by them but we have a moral obligation not to keep the money.

It is a nonsense stance to beat the club with.

It's not about loving a thread. It's about weighing up whether or not commenting "this thread is a fecking dumpster fire" is of much good to anyone. I'd go so far as to say it adds to the shitness.

So many people being baited into hope by Ratcliffe trying to protect Greenwood's sale value...
I think I've already covered your hopium addiction here my good sir. If you're going to tag me in a dumb post you could at least read back first.

Doesn't really jive with the whole "it all will blow over in a few weeks if Greenwood returns" stance does it?

Maybe, just maybe, there is more evidence.
Maybe this recording is a part of a larger recording that explains a lot.
Maybe Greenwood and ******* are silent, because they don't want a turn of events that will put HER in bad spotlight.
Maybe love conquers all.
Who the feck knows?

And no, I'm not saying this is the truth. I'm saying it's possible.
What bothers me is that a lot of posters here have already condemned Greenwood, 100% excluding the possibility that something didn't happen the way they imagine it did.

This picture speaks a lot to me.
We might never know the whole truth. But just think how the Johnny Depp - Amber Heard story unfolded. Until you know the whole truth, you can't condemn people.

But of course, everyone is free to think whatever they want to.

A baby that was born because Greenwood broke the terms of his bail to contact someone who he was being charged for sexually assaulting. Just in case anyone wants context on the timeline here.

You know what pictures speak a lot to me? Multiple pictures of a battered woman who was also so desperate that she recorded Greenwood demanding sex from her.

Why do you ignore that audio and those images and hang your hat on a manicured Instagram post and the remote possibility that somehow there is an alternative explanation to domestic abuse (that for some reason Greenwood never made public)?

It's not about loving a thread. It's about weighing up whether or not commenting "this thread is a fecking dumpster fire" is of much good to anyone. I'd go so far as to say it adds to the shitness.

Yet the "He is so great in Spain, I want him back" has to be balanced by the context of his appealing and unconscionable behavior. Otherwise you are excusing, and even normalising, domestic violence/controlling behaviour.

Read into the psychology of abuse victims returning/staying with the abuser. You're talking as if having a baby together means nothing ever happened

Pro-Greenwood brigade can bring up reasons for wanting to keep them, that's fair enough. But to use this as some sort of logic is naive.
