Also let's get this thread back on topic. Apologies for the deviation.

Cleaner technique, better first touch, close control/dribbling/manipulation of the ball. I'd take his short passing, ability to operate in tight spaces and finishing as well.

I have unintentionally gotten into a serious comparison between the two so I'll even it out with Rashford's areas of superiority - work rate, movement, speed, pro-activeness, tricks? Long range shooting.

I just feel Martial's strength's and areas of superiority all lie in the technical sphere.

It’s no surprise Rashford is buying his own hype these days considering how many seem to overrate his abilities.

Martial is just superior in nearly every way. First touch, close control, dribbling, composure, final ball, finishing, etc. And Martial’s movement is much better in attack. The only things Rashford has on Martial is pace, defensive work rate and long range shooting(which is scarcely consistent).

I used to love Rashford, but his play for the past year or two along with all the excuses his growing sect of fanboys make to justify and overrate his performances are both beginning to grate on me.

Probably already been posted but I don’t think I’ve seen such a complete forward produced by United.

Just hope he stays injury free and gets a proper run in the side.

Is the lad injured/ill or available for the game today? What is his general injury record? Hope he is built like a tank, as it would be such a shame to waste so much talent due to uncontrollable factors. Ability, determination and application- wise Mason seems to be a real gem.

I don't share your dislike/opinion of Rashford. I think he's a very good young forward.

Gosh if Mason makes it over the next couple of years and I get to watch him, Martial and Rashford start together, I'm going to lose my shit (in a good way).

I agree that Greenwood is an incredible prospect and is a more talented all round footballer than Rashford but I don't think he'll make the same immediate breakthrough impact as Rashford did.

Rashford is more explosive, has blistering speed and an excellent long range strike. Greenwood is a better all rounder but Rashford is more of an x-factor player.

For that reason, I think it's really important how Greenwood is introduced. If they can get him a few cheap goals and get his confidence up he can be a genuine first team attacking option.

Gave him half an hour when we’re up 2-0 !

It’s a question of “if”, rather then “when”.
If he is not good enough to score a goal himself when we need a goal (and not when we already scored enough), then maybe he is indeed not yet ready.

So, what people are talking about is to give Greenwood a chance in a situation when we need goals - preferably to start a game. Even if he doesn’t score - we very often encounter situations when senior strikers don’t score, either

Wow. He's rather good, isn't he? The close control, the finishing, the dribbling. Looks two footed as well. That outside-of-the-left-boot volley that he put into the top corner from some way out - brilliant. He just takes the ball and runs at goal in most situations. He will be some player in the future.

I think he has to play centrally - we shouldn't Rashford him. If he has good players on either side of him to draw the defenders wide, he can create some problems with his direct approach. Somehow I feel he'd thrive in a false nine with Martial to his left and a pacy dribbler to his right.

The dream is that one day we see front 6 of:

-------Greenwood------ Rashford--------
--------------------Lingard---------------
------Pogba--------------------Gomes---
------------------McTominay-------------

or maybe even:

-------Greenwood------ Rashford--------
---------------------------------------------
------Pogba--------Gomes------Garner----
------------------McTominay----------------

I mean it could end up terribly (and of course there are better non-academy players in the way, and probably many of the prospects won't make it in the end) but an academy grown front 6 would be brilliant to see, if only for it's own sake.

There are some very strange people in this thread.

Are you sure it’s Rashford you’re thinking of here?

I agree, he's a good young forward, but to say he's on par with Martial, technically, is just delusional. Same with Greenwood, who's also on another level, technically.

At least someone can see it. Rashford showed character to take the penalty and is faster then Martial. He also probably has a better cross (which he never uses). Martial is far superior in dribbling, finishing, heading (Rashford is awful at this), link up play, vision, strength and decision making.

Rashfords decision making is one of the worst in the squad. He acts like he needs to be the hero everytime. The moment we went a goal down against Southampton he was trying stupid dribbles and shots. His selfishness pays off sometimes like it did against PSG with the fumbled shot but it breaks down more attacks then it creates. Also movement, Ole even acknowledged how Rashfords movement isn't great as he wants him to score more tap ins in the box in training. If Martial played upfront his movement will be more intelligent then Rashfords. On the wing he doesn't run in behind much and when he does Luke Shaw never plays him through. Rashford is a talent but Martial is levels above. Even in terms of shooting, Rashford has 9/10 goals with his right foot and most his goals are struck the same way. He could be 1v1 or outside the box but he always shoots the same way. He is being very overrated by fans who 'wouldn't swap him for Mbappe'. If Rashford works hard then he could achieve Raheem Sterling level at a max.

Cant be an accident or random that he is RvPesque? Surely he watched him and modelled his game and movements to him? Some of his moves and way of playing is like watching Robin all over again.

Think the way his legs are bent, it's like RVP.

Very excited to see what he can do for senior team. Proper two footed player and technically very good. Hopefully he will get more time today.

There are some fair points in there, mixed in with the rubbish. Decision making is the easiest part of the game to coach and he is only 21. You are also exaggerating this and giving too much credit to Sterling who also makes the wrong decision a lot and misses chances. He is playing in a team that dominates possession and creates lots of chances so it doesn't matter as much.
Almost no player matures fully by 21 and now he has a coach who believes in him and is the perfect man to give him advice to improve these aspects of his game. Cheer up!

But he does work hard, and he's already more impactful for England than Sterling...and besides, Sterling is an excellent player, that's why he's first choice at the league champions..

I don't think we have had a two footed player that looks as natural as him since Carrick

I know this is a Forum to discuss football but i really dont understand the obsession to compare our players to each other all the time...Martial is better in this and that than Rashford, Greenwood better in this and that etc...Every player is unique and with different attributes, whats the point to compare them all the time? At this point its impossible to say who out of the three is going to develop into the better player imo. I'm just happy to follow them and wait and see how it continues and to enjoy they're are playing for us.

On Topic: Greenwood seems to be some player. I hope he can life up to the expectations and adjust to PL football in the near future. Otherwise i can already see the first "overrated" comments...:wenger:

Imo, Lingard should take a backseat and let this kid start our next game as a Right Forward since that wing desperately needs someone who can be dangerous on the ball and not without it.

Lingard in free role only works in the counter attacking set-up but to hurt teams which are going to sit back and give us the possession he’s pointless.

Really hope to see him in our first team in few years time...

I'm getting the feeling that Lingard might be one of Ole's favorites, which is a problem because he's playing the position that many of us believe is actually our weakest.
Every manager will have his favorites, but time comes that you realize that with playing someone not good enough you are shooting yourself in the foot. I hope Ole doesn't do that.

In all honesty, I'd rather a kid like Greenwood or even Chong get those minutes and we might come out of this season with another option. With Lingard we all know what we are getting.

I've stated it plenty of times in this thread but IMO he's too good to be stuffed out wide and asked to take people on. He needs to be used in the centre of the pitch as a 10/9 with freedom to roam.

While he's athletic enough to do that job, it's just waste. I hope we give him time in the centre where he belongs.

Depending on how we set up it might become a problem if we have Martial, Rashford, Greenwood and Lukaku all vying for the same position.

No harm in having favourites, if player and team dont perform manager will be out. Its the same with say Sarri at Chelsea who prefers Jorginho playing deep and Kante as AM. It doesn't work and he is rightfully blamed.

Agree with this, especially with Rahsford slowly turning into a winger wizard.

This team also needs pure and ruthless goalscoring outlets if ever thinking about title challenge.
