We will play in Marveld in the end of May (23rd till 25th).The tournament is meant for youth players born on or after 01-01-1999 (U15s in international format)

Players that played for us in last year version and still eligible this year:Makela,Kenyon,Rankin-Costello,Barrett,Lewis Thompson (the last two are U14s).Beside those names Melle Meulensteen is the only other U15s who is eligible so the large portion of this year's squad would be from the U14s.

I'm guessing Melle is Rene son. What is he rated like?

He is.Not the higher rated out of the U15s but as he's still here he must have something about him. He's a bit younger than the rest of the U15s except for Makela though (born in June I think).

Our Marveld team will play in a pre-Marveld tournament at Carrington today.Liverpool one of the teams involved. We usually take the preparation for this tournament quite serious.

U15s Jake Kenyon was having a surgery therefore won't be involved in the squad.Same thing but with much more severe injury for U14s Jack Wyatt (no.14 in the Hibernia trophy earlier this season).

Makela wasn't involved in the preparation tourno yesterday due to injury.Hope he can make it on time as we have quite a young squad this time.

Liverpool won the tourno after winning all 3 games. The other 2 teams involved are "Independent Schools" (don't ask me who they are :wenger:) and Aston Villa.

United will travel to Holland in around 10 days for the official tournament.

From seeing the team at the Hibernia trophy last year they could really do with Makela. They played lovely football but were lacking someone with a bit of power and pace to break down the other teams

And now even without a proper striker...

It's something I find so frustrating about our youth teams. They're all full of midfielders and there are no strikers. How are the kids supposed to learn how to play at a club that always has 4 strikers and normally play at least 2 of them each game, if they're playing in teams full of midfielders from the age of 14 until the u21s?

Most of the underage teams tend to play a 4-2-3-1/433 formation because its generally seen as the best for teaching the young players about their roles in the team. But yeah I do agree with you and I'd expect us to sign at least 1 striker for the under 18s and 1 for the under 16s this summer

We have strikers but funnily enough we released all of them :p Not having a dig at the youth coaches of course as only the best would be retained.Just find it funny how we don't have any proper striker in our book now at U14s-U16s level. We'll sign new ones though if not already.

Have we not already signed a striker for the u18s in Dimitri Mfomo?

'Dimitri Mfomo mo fo'

Is what he can say into the cameras after he has scored an important goal.

The squad will travel to Holland tomorrow.Fair bit of trialists in the squad this time round.Tony Martin is our head coach as usual.

Is the squad list available?

Not yet but should be available soon since we have a regular watcher of this competition on Twitter (John de Loos).I know a few names but no point to put it here before the full squad is out.

I have to be honest, it's nice to know how the underage teams do in these types of tournament, but it always makes me uneasy just how much info there is on kids that young. They will get more than enough pressure on them as adults if they make it in football - the last thing they need is every Tom, Dick and Harry plastering their name over Twitter at the age of 13/14 and sometimes even younger...

Yeah I'm full supportive for the confidentiality policy the club is employing for the academy. You only need to see the reaction of some of the fans when that news about P.Nevile's kid playing for City was out (he's an United fan for people's reference). The kid need to be protected until they're mature enough to handle that kind of pressure. It's much easier for Arsenal or Chelsea fans to get those kind of info about their youth but I'm contented about how our club is protecting the kids.I usually post only partly the info I know about younger age competitions and avoid to mention the kid's name unless they're already known.

@khoazany Please post the squad list if and when you get it, mate.

These trialists - are they all from the Isles?

Agreed.

Also it gave rise to one of my favourite stories about our academy. An U14 game was open to the media, and because of these rules only the players' last names could be given to interested journalists. One pundit, presumably not a regular at these sorts of matches, was watching a young Danny Welbeck and remarked to a United coach that he liked the look of 'that Brazilian kid.' Because of the combination of the single name on his bit of paper (which doesn't sound far from the likes of Douglas, Wellington, Bernard, Jadson, Malcolm etc) and the obvious flair, he'd assumed Danny was some Brazilian prodigy training with us!

Manchester United’s U15 team will this week finish their season as they do every year with a trip to the Marveld tournament in Holland which is on of the most prestigious under age tournaments in world football. The best U15 teams come from all over the world to compete in the three-day tournament held at the home of SV Grol.

The list of players to have played at the tournament reads as a who’s who of Dutch and International football with the likes of Robin Van Persie, Arjen Robben, Wesley Sneijder and Bastian Schweinsteiger all having graced the tournament since its inception 25 years ago while the past 10 years has seen the likes Jordi Alba, Thiago Alcantara, Stevan Jovetic and Romelu Lukaku all make their mark on the competition.

United’s own history of players to have played at the the tournament is also very impressive and in the past 10 years United have had the likes of Tom Cleverley, Jesse Lingard, Ravel Morrison, Michael and Will Keane, Tom Lawrence and most recently James Wilson all appearing before going on to feature for the first team, while the likes of Ben Pearson, Joe Rothwell and Sam Johnstone are all on the verge of the first team.

The 2014 edition is the 25th anniversary of the tournament and could be the best yet as United come up against top teams including Ajax and Real Madrid in their own group while the other group includes Bayer Leverkusen and Barcelona in what will be a very hotly contested tournament.

This year United will be hoping to continue the good progress they have made in the competition in the past couple of years after coming fourth last year and a best ever second place finish in 2012 with a team including current U18′s Dean Henderson, Cameron Borthwick Jackson and Demetri Mitchell with Henderson finishing the tournament as Best Goalkeeper.

This years squad includes a few players who have experience of playing at the tournament with James Thompson, Jake Barrett and Joseph Rankin-Costello all having appeared in last years tournament, while Faustin Makela (who recently made his U18 debut at the age of 14) is the most experienced player in the squad having appeared in the last two tournaments. Jake Kenyon who also appeared last year misses out through injury.

Other names to look out for from the squad are Angel Gomes an extremely gifted 13-year-old attacking midfielder who was the teams best player at the Hibernia Cup and Melle Meulensteen, the son of Rene Meulensteen, who is unsurprisingly a technically gifted player. There are also a few of our U13 players who will gain good experience from the trip with James Thompson (GK), James Garner (CB) and Dylan Levitt (AM) all in the squad along with two trialists Declan Evans and Jack Stewart.

United will obviously be hoping to build on their recent improvement in this tournament but with what will probably be the youngest squad in the tournament it will take a huge effort from the team but with the amount of quality they have in the squad they have every chance. Whether the team is successful or not there is every chance that some of these players could go on to emulate the likes of Wilson and go on to be the future of the club.

Squad:

Matthew Campbell, James Thompson, Jake Barrett, Max Dunne, James Garner, Joseph Rankin-Costello, Harry Spratt, Lewis Thompson, Venancio Monteiro, Aidan Barlow, Danny Butterworth, Angel Gomes, Dylan Levitt, Melle Meulensteen, George Tanner, Faustin Makela, Declan Evans, Jack Stewart

@jb8521's article on Marveld.

Venancio Monteiro is a new U14s signing from Benfica.So 3 U15s,3 U13s and 2 trialists.The rest are U14s.Garner is a 01' born.

Squad list with numbers:
1. Matthew Campbell, 2. Jake Barrett, 3. Lewis Thompson, 4. Declan Evans, 5. Joseph Rankin-Costello, 6. Melle Meulensteen, 7. Faustin Makela, 8. Aidan Barlow, 9. Daniel Butterworth, 10. Adilson Angel Gomes, 11. Venancio Da Silva Monteiro, 12. Harry Spratt, 13. James Thompson, 14. George Tanner, 15. Jack Stewart, 16. Dylan Levitt, 17. Max Dunne and 18. James Garner.

Is there a stream for these games? I remember watching a few of the matches when we had the likes of Daehli in the squad a few years back.

Also is Angel Gomes under 13 or under 14?

United XI vs PSV: Campbell - Barrett,Costello,Evans,L.Thompson - Meulensteen,Barlow - Makela,Gomes,Monteiro - Butterworth

1-0 for PSV after a penalty.Campbell tried to save the ball, but in doing so brought down a PSV player.

#mufc XI vs. Real Madrid: Campbell, Barlow, Makela, Rankin-Costello (c), Gomes, Meulensteen, Barrett, L. Thompson, Butterworth, Spratt and Da Silva Monteiro.

So Spratt (a LB/CB) replaced trialist Evans in the XI.The rest same as the PSV match.

HT: Real 1-0 United

United sub: Jack Stewart, Dylan Levitt and George Tanner on for Makela, Meulensteen and Butterworth.

Levitt is an U13s AM/CM.
