Martinez carried off the pitch by Sevilla's

He never actually went down looking for treatment, did he?

They recognised he was in trouble and helped him out. Nothing wrong with that.

They can paint it as friends helping out their fellow countryman all they want bit in reality All I see is they knew we were under huge presuure and they had all the momentum so removed him as quick as they could.

Schmeichel rightly points to a lack of leadership on United team at that moment. Seville got him off asap, kept their momentum and didn't let us regroup. Incredible naivety again, just like allowing Palace to move their last minute free kick about 6 yards forward. Its a lack of focus and concentration that's still present

Yeah, agreed. A long injury stoppage was exactly what we needed in that period of the game too. And that’s without the extra reorganisation needed to cope with a man down and no Martinez.

Having him railroaded off the pitch so quickly and the game restarted immediately was a huge benefit to Sevilla and a disaster for us. Bearing in mind what a despicable cheat one of his carriers was all match I wouldn’t give them any benefit of the doubt.

Zero leadership from any of the players in red. A common theme over the last few years.

Definitely agree with these comments. We needed to regroup and breathing space, instead we were thrown right back into the game and, to me, it seems that those Sevilla players knew that.

On top of that the Sevilla players who carried Martinez off the pitch are his Argentina teammates and Martinez just let's them.
What can you do about that? Nothing.
I can understand why Maguire, Casemiro or any other United player didn't protest.

They should have stood over him. Watch it back, Seville players get straight to him, it's a cleverness we still lack

Doesn't make sense. Why would he go down if not looking for treatment? He went down and lost the ball just for fun and giggle?

I must have missed him getting on field treatment then. Only saw him going down and the two lads carrying him off,

Far too many people giving far too much credit to Montiel, what about that dirty douchebag makes people think he's a selfless person just trying to help his friend?

the fact that martinez wasn’t bothered in the slightest by them carrying him off. He probably asked them to.

He was distraught and not thinking clearly. The fact that so many other professionals had an issue with it should be some indicator to you that it was wrong.

I’m cynical and the fact that all the Sevilla players are historical cnuts. I’m quite livid that our players allowed it to happen, small matter or not. Bruno would probably have something to say about that but he wasn’t already on the pitch

Yeah, good point about how difficult it might have been to confront the Argies. That might even have pissed Martinez off. And I’m coming around to the idea that they were well intentioned. Really it’s just one of those things. So crazy though. The night where everything that could possibly go wrong went wrong.

So many cloud yellers in this thread.
Just need a release, mate. Or I could go instead commenting about Maguire head has a shape of loser. The ball could be deflected to thousands different places but it had to be right into that corner. But that would be mean.

Most probably the ref told the physio to take him off or call for the stretcher, so Martinez asked his mates to carry him off rather than leave on the stretcher. Life’s too short to be offended by everything.

Yep, utter non story.
This isn't Herrera being carted off giggling by that West Ham chump.
This is a street fighter intentionally letting his national team mates take him off.

How can anyone who knows Sevilla for what they are think this was a good gesture? This was a team that had players rolling all over the pitch hoping to get our players on the yellow. Everything they were doing was to gain an advantage.

Us and bloody metatarsals... though this one was odd because I thought you needed to hit it against something to fracture it

They are his buddies from the world cup. Was a great gesture. How can anyone be pissed off with that? Weird.
