Martial + Rooney injured, Zlatan suspended - RASHFORD STARTS

Yeah we did it plenty of times, particularly in Europe, but that Arsenal match isn't a good example. We did play a few defenders in midfield but that was more SAF resting players during a busy period. The match itself was very open and high energy. In no way was that parking the bus.
I didn't mean that was parking the bus, just that in terms of selection for the Chelsea game we shouldn't be afraid to have an unusual lineup to handle the injury crisis. I agree that game was very open, with the twins flying down the wings.

Despite our depleted team I would like us to go on offensive for this game not due to some misguided belief that United are above employing pragmatic and defensive setup but due to the fact that our defence is good for atleast one brain fart every game and only time Chelsea have struggled this season is when opposition had taken game to them.

Yeah but we sold midfielders and we have four striking options out. If we were short on midfield you would have a point

But the point is we didn't get any striking options in. Banking on a 36 year old who earned himself a 3 match ban, a 31 year old Rooney injured who is on the wane, a striker turned winger in martial and rashford who is simply too raw at the moment with no backup after them in case of scenarios like this is just poor planning imo.

Compounded by the fact we are failing to convert even the simplest of chances that could have earned us precious points and playing in 66 matches this season, im afraid Jose fecked up here, even if he is planning to buy in the summer. A stop gap developing striking talent would have been what the club needed.

Fellaini up top? Jose has to be taking the piss.

We'll have more men behind the ball than there is in the team photo.

Drop a couple of snippets of mis information to a couple of journos, and watch the online drones spread it like wildfire.

Great planning Jose.

I hope

This was my first thought as soon as I heard the news!

Beep beep.

Not sure if it's the Beep-Beep or the smirk but this killed me, thank you!

Bring it on.

If I weren't worrying this might actually materialise it'd be the post of the thread!

==========

No disrespect to the big guy but I personally think Fellaini will cost us the game if he starts (good chance that he will anyway if he comes on as a sub but that's for another thread). We cannot afford to have players that go "missing", like he does too often, especially in matches against in-form opponents. He does not "fit" naturally into any formation, we have to completely refigure the whole team plan around him. While some might think it's a tactic that Chelsea will not have planned for, neither is playing Phil Jones in goal but that won't win us the game either will it!

If you look at the resources we have, we can play Carrick Pogba and Herrera through the middle and either play 5 across the back with Valencia and Blind/Shaw as wing-backs or even 4 across the back finally allowing Valencia and Young to overlap with extreme prejudice on the same wing with Shaw/Blind and Blind/Lindgard on the other while playing Mata behind Mkhi up front.

Be nice to retain the FA Cup but it's really not the end of the world if we lose tonight – look at the run we went on after the 4:0 (but this is the wrong point of the season to take another knock like that). As long as we come out of this one with our heads held high I don't much care either way!

Please Jose don't lose it on the touch line tonight!

If we had Ibra and Martial playing, then sure, we are very good.
The problem is that we don't have the guy who scores most of our goals.
And now, we have been told that we can't play with a striker.
So, given all of the above, I can't see how we can win this. I can't even see a draw.
Pace down the channels and a high press make chelsea vulnerable

Have you not seen some of our CL away games under Sir Alex?
Fergusons teams midfielders never could press high and win the ball due to aging midfeild. This team can with high energy midfeild in Herrera and pogba just like Liverpool away game. And keep the possession.

Does anyone know the details of Rashfords illness?

Always a little bit suspect when a player can't play due to illness especially an important one like this.

This is why you buy in the jan transfer window. Selling players and claiming no value in the transfer window cost SAF dearly at times.

We have 4 strikers if you include Martial as a striker, so buying a fifth on the off chance of a mini crisis is pointless and wouldn't be beneficial.

Also I think this is Mourinho throwing the towel in the FA Cup to concentrate on the league and EL.

Need not draw unnecessary conclusions. Our squad is big enough with good depth. Mkh young can play as strikers.

Big enough indeed, good enough depth? Ehhh I dunno.

Also as has been proven, Mourinho doesn't rotate so the size is not a valid point.

Std picked up off the big man zlats whose biatch he is.

Having one player ill, one suspended and 2 players injured with knocks....that is not an injury crisis. Crisis yes - injury crisis no

Its a crisis if all the players for a particular position get injured at the same time.

If you've got a fever / cold / flu with respiratory issues, can't see players being able to give a good account of themselves.

Get all the midfielders on there and hope for the best.

An old saying springs to mind: life serves you lemons, make lemonade.

Mata, Martial, Miki and Lingard are our lemons. Id have Mata nominally "up front", he can definitely do that job.

Have you seen Chelseas counter attack?

I want to see how some forumers here slaughter Jose if he plays Young up top, just like how they slaughtered LVG for doing so.
