Sad that it didn’t work out. Fantastic player on his day. But far too infrequent

Amusing him saying he wants to leave to get game time exactly when a new manager comes in with no set favourites and a new system.

Truth is he's seen the system Ralf is playing and it's too much effort for him. which is fine - the few glimpses we've seen of Elanga suggest he would be at least as good.

He was almost always underwhelming and frustrating to support. Martial lacks the fire to achieve what he could have.

Good riddance. Lazy, uninterested waste of space these last few seasons. Hasn't helped that his confidence has been in the toilet but I'll be delighted to see the back of him. Sad, because I thought he would be brilliant for us after his first couple of seasons but ended up regressing. Won't be missed by me.

Tony Martial came from France
The press said he had no chance
50 million down the drain
Well no he didn't meet those targets.

Or, in late night informercial/retail terms:

One Pogba for the low low price of just 59.99m and you get a Lingard free! At no extra charge! But that’s not all! Act now and you’ll also get a complimentary limited edition Martial figurine! But THAT’s not all either!…

I know that it sounds ridiculous but Newcastle need players quickly to stir the ship away from relegation. What's better way to do so then negotiating with just 1 team whose players wants out and are paid so much that very few clubs can afford them?

Doubt it. Even if they weren't skint, which I think all of them are (barring Atletico who have a surplus of forwards), I don't see them spending 40 million on him.

Also, Jose's Roma. Really?
Sevilla could easily afford him, just depends on their buying philosophy.

Inter could afford him with a sale before hand, as could Atletico.

Roma currently have Abraham as their striker, you not think they'd be all over Martial, Depends on Jose swallowing a bit of his pride I guess, but he seems more humble these days.

Didn’t mean to say it was ridiculous at all; just having some fun with the idea.

I spent years defending this guy and now I'm probably more happy than anyone to see his days at the club are probably counted. The guy had so much potential in him and threw it all away because he never trained or worked hard enough to improve and maximize his potential. He's arrogant and looks completely disinterested whenever playing so can't wait till he's gone tbh.

I don't get the apprehension with selling him to Newcastle. He's not Lewandowski ffs, its even debatable whether he'd be better than Callum Wilson or ASM. They might not stay up even with him in their team.

I've always been quite down the middle with Martial. I think he's useful to have when he's playing well but some of the overrating of him has been insane. (mainly on twitter, but also portions of the caf).

He was good in his first season and then good in Ole's first full season (particularly good just before and just after lockdown, I seem to recall), but other than that, he's been distinctly average

I won't be disappointed at all to see him go. We can hopefully bring in a decent fee as he's still a 'name'.

That God damn wages are going to make it way harder, I can only see a loan where we pay a part of his wages or maybe Newcastle desperated to stay up. Even though I'm not sure if they can actually start spending as soon as January.

People are concentrating on the ending, but shouldn't forget he had loads of great goals and memories over his time here.

Not quite a top player, and neither a striker or a winger really. Am sure he can do well relative to the level of club he steps down to.
Just hope we get a decent fee. If it's £15m or so we all riot.

Very few quality players are up for sale in January, this works in our favour, both for Martial and Lingard. Can we get 30m+15m for them?

Shame, playing in front two, Beardsley role, might have suited him. Or at least it might have suited the 2016-18 version of him. I can’t remember him dribbling much since then.

Sad if this is true. He did show glimpses and I remember that season when he and Rashford were trading goals and assists for fun.
I feel like he is a player they can benefit most from that sports psychologist Rangnick wants to bring in.
He might find himself at Inter…

Martial in a relegation dogfight.

I'm struggling to think of many PL quality players I'd not rather have in Newcastle's situation. I'll be tuning in in for the morbid curiosity of seeing him wander round the pitch on a cold night in Rotherham if it happens and they end up going down, though.

If he wants to leave in Jan, he should be more amenable to accept a wage cut.

Christ, I can't think of many players you'd want less for a relegation fight than Martial.

Hopefully Newcastle are stupid and buy him though

He didn't want to train (the brain)*

I've seen two super squads in my life ie Pep's Barcelona and Sacchi's Milan. We came close to that overall quality a couple of times throughout SAF's reign but we never reached that near perfection. However what we had throughout SAF's reign was consistency. Irrespective of how good our first team players were you could often count their bad performances on one hand. Our decline can be attributed to many things from an obsolete setup to bad management at board level etc. However one key issue is us giving second-third chances to players who are inconsistent. Sometimes it only takes 3-4 consecutive good games for a player to be handled a long term contract. That needs to change.

Funny how he doesn't have the drive to fight for a spot under a new manager. He's a talented player but lacks the intensity for this league. Send him to France or Italy and he will be much better for it.

AM leaving has been long overdue. Fingers crossed it happens.

But it says a lot about him that he wants to jump ship just as a new manager comes in who wants to implement a higher tempo style of play

Shame that it doesn't work out for him. First year with Ole was the time I thought he was consistently good.

Wouldn’t he share a lot of the workrate-concerned issues that Rangnick has?

I don’t know, I can just see the Saudis being ‘We give you….Anthony Martial! ’ and Howe going “Look, do you want to stay up this season or not.

I haven't seen anything about Rangnick having concerns about him, this transfer news is all coming from Martial's agent. I do agree that when you think relegation dogfight, Martial doesn't instantly spring to mind.

He had some good stretches of form here and overall he had good seasons in 15/16 and 19/20 but that's just not enough for a Utd player. 2 good seasons out of 7 is not Utd standard.

He also has had periods of form where he's been disgracefully bad, I'll never forget his performance at home to Sheffield Utd last season for example. One of the laziest most insulting displays I have ever seen from a Utd player. He was lucky no fans were there or they'd have been going mental at him.

I'll be glad to see him go.

Back to Monaco or even Lyon maybe?

That's what I could see happening the most.

His time is up here anyway. I get the impression he could've worked a lot harder over the past however many years.

Think you lot have him wrong, great player that hasn't had any real consistency as he was constantly having his number taken, shunted to accommodate Sanchez etc, I don't think he's always performed as has a demeanour that lends itself to a sulky lethargic player, I do think under the right circumstances and manager he can become a top player but I wouldn't begrudge him a move if we can get a decent price, we have enough talented youngsters.
You’ve spun this in a very, very favourable light for Martial…

He’ll end up in Italy and we’ll have to pay half his wages as per usual

Be lucky to get anyone to take him, he’s a lazy fecker that’s far too injury prone.

Well, I think he's shown that he's always going to be meant to be a big fish in a little pond... aka - he isn't the one to fight for a spot/his time and prove he belongs with the greats of the sport and leave a lasting legacy.

He had the right attirbutes and mindset to make him look elite compared to an average person, and that in itself is an amazing accomplishment, but he is very much average compared to the elites of the sport.

I wish him luck but his time here should've been up for a while now(the United way - keeping players past it)
