Martial | Di Marzio thinks he will stay

This was inevitable after we signed Sanchez and moved Martial to the right wing where he's never played before. He was one of our best players this season before that happened and now he's an unused substitute. It's really poor treatment by Jose and I think we'll regret it in the long term. Sanchez is nearly 30 and wingers tend to decline early. Rashford doesn't seem like a natural in that position. This will be similar to the mistakes Mourinho made with de Bruyne, Salah etc.

Even if we sell him, hope we put in some buy back clause or first option into his contract, even if it mean getting 10/20 million less.
Would be gutted to see him go but I understand why he would want to
When we signed Sanchez I expected him to be playing as RW and Martial as LW, but Mou had other plans.
I hope we get someone like Dybala in exchange for him plus Juve are mostly open to selling, so in the future if we want to buy him back, Juve would probably be willing to sell, for a very high fee
 
I hope that the rumours aren't true but if they are, I am not sure what more can be done if he is offered a 5!!!! years contract and rejects it? That alone should show him that we thing he has a future at Man Utd. The good thing is he has 2 years on his contract so we can force him to stay and try to change his mind for 12 months.

I don't think it would take that much money. I think somewhere between 60 and 70 million would be realisitic.

And obviously we got him on a loan with an option to buy. But we got him. That's the important part.

We can't loan him out if he's refusing to sign a new contract. The best we could hope for would be clauses for goals scored, individual awards won and get shitloads of money upfront or an elite player in part-exchange. Can't see a top club wanting to buy him with a buy-back clause attached to the deal.

And we often go after the same guy multiple times. We tried to get Robben countless times. It's one thing we're really good at. We know how to make a player feel wanted.
 
I'm not worried about this if it means to fund right-wing because we will spend all of our money on midfield and defence. I don't want us to start next season without the proper right wing.

I don't think we'd sell him for such a cut price. All it would do would be to continue the trend of other clubs helping Bayern to retain their level on the cheap. What's the point in that. It's maybe understandable that you get top players for pittance in your own league. But you can't be expecting foreign clubs to be helping you out like that.

Martial doesn't command a spot in a top team, he could get there but at this moment he's inconsistent and it would take a peculiar situation at a top team or a second tier team to start him consistently
 
We're stupid as feck if we proceed with this. We are supposed to be recruiting young special talents, not sell them. He was our best attacking player prior to Sanchez's arrival, up to Mourinho to find a solution.

Not sure who'll want him anyway tbh. City, Liverpool, RM and Barca don't need him. Maybe Juve?

What leverage do we have? The player is actively looking to go. Would we let him rot on the bench for 2 years?

Him turning into a start for Bayern will make us look like mugs. Especially if his replacement is old and on the wane.
The only way this makes sense for us is if we use the money to a player who's a bit older but better.
Feck the cash, there's nothing we are going to do with it. Use him as a bargaining chip to sign Dybala.
 
Has incredible talent but he definitely has something missing - hopefully he’s here when he gains what is missing because he could be world class.
 
There's time yet. McTominay has shown if you do enough on and off the pitch you will get playing. Martial oozes ability, but not consistent enough just yet. I'd like for him to stay, but he needs to deliver on the pitch as well, not be the difference one game and bypassed the next. Martial has responded to plenty of rumours before on social media. Wonder if he will to likewise for this.
 
Understandable, I guess. He wants games. With Sanchez coming in, and it looking like Rashford is second choice down the left, then Martial is probably thinking how much game time he will get next season.

I think he will go and Mourinho will sign Bale.

And yet Real did exactly this with James. I still remember the numbers making the round before we got him. Many people thougt he wouldn't move fpr less than 80 million. Well, he did. I think people underestimate the impact the good relationships we have with you, Real, Barca and Juve have. If Martial wants to move to us only we'll get him cheap (relatively speaking).
 
Selling Martial to sign Sanchez, which is what we're effectively doing, is obviously pretty silly considering how good Martial has already been for us and how much younger he is than Sanchez. Martial will no doubt move to another major club and be one of their best players, just like he was in his first season under Van Gaal, or this season until we moved him to the right.

That's what's going to happen though so we need to make the best of it. Sell him abroad for a massive fee and invest the money in the numerous weak areas like LB, RB and RW.

This is the short term thinking that has gotten the club in the situation they are in. Signing Sanchez for a few years service while letting a talented player like Martial leave who can give us ten years worth of service is not sound judgement and is exactly the sort of thing a manager looking to leave within a few years would do.
 
I would be very annoyed if we let him go, although it would be ok if we replaced him with someone similarly talented but more aggressive/direct. Sanchez is not that player.
 
Why don't we at least see what happens against Brom? If he doesn't start that'd be a big indicator that this news may indeed be true. If on the other hand, he starts and hopefully bags a goal, celebrates by kissing the badge or something then we'd know it is all a ploy to get his transfer wishes.

I like the player, but I won't be devastated if we lost him. The only current members of the current team that I feel are already WC or will ever reach that level are DDG, Sanchez, and Pogba. Martial is good, but he is as inconsistent and lacking tenacity as they come. and he shouldn't expect to be in the first team by default.

We'll look like mugs whatever the situation, we have one of the top u23 players in the world and a good chance we'll let him go. No matter where he goes, he'll turn into a quality player. This doesn't make sense for us in any way long term other then the player wants to go now because he feels it's time for him to get the consistent football that he probably still won't get next season as he would still be splitting games with the same players.

Good players are sold only when players wants to leave. So that's the same leverage we have, player is under contract and buying club have to pay the asking price.
 
The signs so far suggest that Martial is always going to be something of a luxury player under Jose - skillful, efficient with his chances, but not indispensable. I don't really agree that he's been our best attacking player since he generally seems to drift through games while popping up with a decisive moment now and then, but can't argue with his productivity. He definitely has the potential to be, but it doesn't seem likely that he'd realise that potential under Jose.

Quite a quandary given that neither player nor manager seem able to adapt to each other. A Pogba situation wouldn't be the end of the world though.

I'm surprised that there is so much comparisons made between Rashford and Martial. To me it's patently obvious that Martial is a much bigger talent than Rashford. I don't care if he looks like he is sulking if you give both Rashford and Martial the same amount of gametime Martial would be much more productive and effective.

I don't know why people keep mentioning him being the best attacking player. You do know we have Lukaku in attack as well?
 
Would be a big loss for us. He's going to be brilliant wherever he goes. I'd have given him more prominence and developed him instead. Blood shame, if true.

Agreed, but the narrative seems to have shifted post January to he's been average all season and he's going to be a flop. I can objectively see the logic in getting in a Sanchez, if a) he was going to be used on the right wing b) we had sufficient time on Martial's contract to risk using him as a rotation option for a year or so until Sanchez had lost his legs and c) if we also said to him, he can be used as rotation for Lukaku too as a 9 and made him feel like his development would still be taken care of by staying here but as it stands, it really may end up being the death knell in keeping him.

There will be other young superstars out there if he goes, but we won't be signing any until Jose's tenure is done. It is clear that the 'development' and 'experiment' phase of Jose's reign is over and I think he wants to bring in his own men, and do it his own way and go hard for the title. Which is fair enough. I just hope people don't shit on Martial on the way out and write him off, he's just at the wrong place at the wrong time under the wrong manager. It happens and in a few years, the environment at Old Trafford could be totally different and better suited to the player he has become at that stage. Highly unlikely he'll be back though.. Pogba situation is incredibly rare.
