Marko Arnautović | United have pulled out

There'll be some now who start making out he'd actually have been decent. The club isn't allowed to get anything right

Thank feck they've pulled out though. Christ, it was worrying.

Thank feck for that. Would rather have Raul Jiminez, Calvert-Lewin or Mitrovic than him if we’re going for squad depth

While it's good that this isn't happening it's somewhat concerning that the backlash has been mentioned as a reason. Why are the club using fan reactions to influence their recruitment policy? Plus for all the bluster that came about how things had changed and are more thorough, how did it not occur to them that people might not be happy with signing a player with that history (even ignoring that he's not very good)? It doesn't augur well for whoever we target next that they were below Arnautovic in our list of targets.

I'm glad we pulled the plug but it's a bit worrying that fan sentiment seems to be holding such sway over our decisions of late. We all know Poch would be our manager now if the fans didn't vocally demand that Ten Hag be given the job.

The club has no vision whatsoever for how they want the team to play, they're just letting the fans and the media influence them because they're all businessmen with zero clue about football.

Rejoice muppets we have done it!! Thank feck for this! Now purge this thread from existence. No one should ever remember we were once linked with this guy.

We are looking for a Lidl backup to Cristiano Ronaldo.

Feck it, write the season off already and play the kids. What's the point of spending months competing for 4th with Rabiot and the Arnautovic Plan B?

I can't imagine that's an actual reason... More a PR move/make good ("we're listening to you" type bullshit)

Great but the fact we pulled out because fans were unhappy is a bit of a joke.

They should have known that we'd be in the first place. It's another mishap, similar to the Super League. How are these people so clueless.

Just a question, has he actually been convicted or banned for any racist remarks or gestures?

Understand these concerns but this seems a unique case given the racism.

The football scouting operation has failed the club massively on this one. How do they in their personality scouting not know about Arnautovic's racism? How?? It's unfathomable that it would go as far as a bid and fan backlash before they saw common sense. It's insane.

Incredible that Man Utd's supposedly enhanced background checks didn't anticipate this, eh?

Just like the list of 800 right backs that led to us buying Wan-Bissaka.

I'm not convinced anything this club briefs out is real. Its the Wizard of Oz. Behind the flashing lights and the spectacle there's nothing there.

You're probably right but it certainly should have been a reason for this to have been a total non-starter in the first place.

That makes me worrying about our scouting even further. Surely one of the first things you should be scouting for a player is, is he a cnut, racist or criminal? It's not like he's an unknown quantity in the premier league!

Wouldn't read anything into that. Most likely just a generic reply from a random customer service employee rather than anyone from the hierarchy.

Meh, was really hopping for that high horse to die. Either way, United cant wash themself from it, the even fact that they went for it, that stain cant be removed for all kinds of reason.
