Why not just go for the same characteristics in the players whether it's January or August? If they're not available don't sign anyone.

If Ole wanted Herrera he could've re-signed a player that loved playing for the club. Herrera said as much as he left.
Fellaini had just signed a new deal but Ole big bollocks let him go for jack all.
I didn't rate Sanchez or Lukaku but getting rid of Lukaku without replacing him is still as dumb now as when it happened.

You're making things up, Ole was not even permanent manager until March. Herrera had hardly played under Jose in his last season and come 1st Jan he was able to speak to other clubs. He has already said he joined PSG because of their on going permanent interest. United didn't make any firm offer until late, it wasn't Ole's fault, blame the board for not keeping on top of things, but you are fabricating things to suit your "agenda".
Lukaku was replaced with Martial. James has replaced Sanchez. The younger players have also been promoted and as regulars to the first team squad

Wouldve been a great signing a few years ago. He's turning 34 at the end of the season though and his fitness hasn't been the same in this calendar year, and it's looking like he won't play a game for Juve this season. So we'd be signing a late 33 year old after 9 months without a competitive game who has never played in the premier league and who has never been a regular goalscorer. We'd be banking on him rolling back like 5 years in terms of performances to be properly useful. I understand the need for a player like what he used to be, but I don't think theres a good chance we'll get that if he comes.

Look at it this way - if we cant get anyone else then (since its january and we are in a bad spot), would you rather we got none?
As an impact sub against low block teams the last 20 I’d think it could make a difference. All that experience means he knows where to be and where the goal is. Also, he can still be a decent hold up player and have some aerial skill.
I dont think he’s anyones first pick, but he’s better than nothing.
I don’t think he’d be signed as a goalscorer, that’s never been his thing, he would be a focal point, as Mourinho mistakenly thought Lukaku might be, to then bring into play the pace of James Rashford and/or Martial, depending which was out injured. He would also be used as a starter against lower placed teams who parked the bus, to pin the centre halves against crosses to create room for midfielders like mctominay to come in and have a pop.
Also, playing for Bayern and Juve which dominated most of their league games, he is very much used to playing against teams which is compact and defensive most of the game, exactly what we are struggling with.
fecking hell, not in favour of this signing at all, especially seeing the performance of James and Rashford on Sunday. That mobility and pace will terrorise any defence, not a lumbering old feck walking around.
I see the logic, and I'd be all for that if he could handle it (or if he was a few years younger). What I see him being is just too old and not in shape enough to adapt to the premier league and us being a last pay cheque. He was on the verge of going to China ffs.
Put it this way, I think itd be much closer to 17/18 Ibrahimovic rather than the 16/17 Ibrahimovic, even if you ignore goals.

This proposed deal might hinge on how well Martial plays as striker over coming weeks. You'd imagine he will play centrally with Rash going wide. With Pogba coming back and next 5 games certainly winnable, it may effect any deal for Mandzukic. The call for him came when Rash was struggling and no back up options due to injury, with him now reverting to the wing, now is a chance for Martial to shine. Could still happen, but maybe not as pursued as strongly as it was once was.
I’d agree with that, given his current fitness status has a large question mark over it, I do have concerns this would not be the mandzukic we knew... who in himself never really felt like a Man Utd player.
We need more than one striker until summer even if Martial is injury free rest of the campaign.

definitely someone we should sign as we need the depth, he'd give us something different off the bench, and hopefully help work with our young strikers.
I'm not against signing a striker in Jan, even on a short term contract. I'm just thinking if Martial comes in, does well, which is possible as we have a decent run of games and Pogba back. The club might think between Rash, Martial and Greenwood they have the strikers position covered enough until end of season, when they can make their move.
Can't wait.
Ed's been briefing that we have this plan our football exoperts believe in, and now we are set to sign a player who is past it, a boring, near 34 year old target man who won't have played a game for months when he gets here, plus he's too slow and an arsehole, total waste of money that we'll no doubt pay huge money to in wages and will be hard to get rid of next summer, yeah, we've got plan for sure............

People complain about everything on here...we don't sign a Lukaku replacement and people right complain. We are linked with a veteran stop gap replacement while our youngsters develop and people bitch and moan. I mean honestly who else are we going to get that's better than Mandzukic in January?
