It's really weird how swap deals keep being such a frequently brought-up speculation with media and fans when they happen so very rarely. Real life ain't Football Manager.

Reality: all clubs must be interested in signing Marcus Rashford BUT the good ones....

I vaguely recall seeing a video of him frustrated on the team bus after a game - he seemed unhappy with the way he played.

I also remember Amorim saying him and Garnacho trained well after being banished (obviously coaches lie all the time), but still - seems like the club is actively pushing him out, even seeing suggestions of a loan, which I don’t think help United much. I mean, he’s been poor for a while, but I’m assuming bringing the wage list down is also a substantial motivator in all this, right?

His last few performances were historically bad, transfer list worthy.

The Athletic reported he had been on a couple of nights out within 48hrs of game days again, which Amorim took a dim view of. One issue of many I think.

I think the press release saying he wanted to leave was the straw that broke the camel's back
 
It may be just me being cynical but does anyone have any confidence that Marcus's brother (who has clearly been giving him excellent PR advice recently) won't manage to royally stuff up any chance of finding another club that will take on the Incredible Sulk?

No doubt he would love a percentage cut of a high profile transfer, but we are clearly not getting any serious intent from the 1st tier clubs of Europe so that is off the cards - given he is only attracting mild interest from second and third tier clubs will "Team Marcus" prefer to sit on their laurels?

I'd be more confident if the club was trying to close out a deal rather than leaving it in the hands of Marcus to pick and choose from the flotsam and jetsam of European clubs.

Swap deals happen less in Football Manager than in real life.

The idea that they do, to any great extent, is some weird Caf delusion.

File in the same bucket as ‘Fanbase responsible for erosion of standards’, ‘Fanbase get what they deserve’ type nonsense.

They are a lot more common since the introduction of PSR, or at least a similar idea where two clubs sell a player to each other at the same time as it allows them to do the loop hole stuff of inflating book prices.

Newcastle did it with Forrest and Villa did it with Everton in the window just gone, Villa also did it with Juventus (Luiz and Iling-Junior) so there also already a precedent of an Italian and Prem club doing it together.

Except that they absolutely did after we won the FA Cup.
 
The club will need to spend 55mil in salary for him over the next 3.5years. Selling him for 20 mil now is 75mil gained over next 3.5 years.

Disclaimer: I don’t think Rashford is as good as “they” say, but the answer is wages.

I imagine a few big clubs would be happy to take a punt, but only on deals that mitigate risk as much as they can. Salary is one of the main issues there.

The problem with Rashford right now and one we’re seeing play out in real time — in abstract, if you were a bigger club and you’re seeing Man Utd chuck Rashford out to wash, you’re thinking “hmm yeah he’s worth a punt, right?” then you do a bit more due diligence and you see the salary he’s on, the money Man Utd want to make it a permanent deal, and the fact he’s been out of form for so long — you’re like “eh, maybe not”.

He’s currently contracted until 2028! We’re (rightly) not letting him go without a decent fee (I imagine we’re probably after a figure around, what, £30m?). He’s probably (rightly) not looking for a giant salary reduction because his current contract has so long left. Clubs who are interested are probably (rightly) saying to him and or us — if you want us to take Rashford, something’s got to give here.

It’s why I was so surprised at how he’s been completely iced out of the side when a deal isn’t even close. I still think after his entourage are done with their “talks” to the likes of Dortmund and Milan he will come back tail behind his legs to stay with us until summer.

I reckon it’s to give him a bit of humbling so he’ll lower his expectations in the summer when we finally manage to sell him.

Man Utd has offered Rashford to Bentley in exchange for 200 of their Continental GT Speed model cars.

However you look at it, the club looks to have played this really badly. Rashford actually isn’t in bad form this season. He has a goal or assist about every 140 minutes and, whilst he’s been a bit up and down, he’s had some pretty strong matches. There’s a lack of top left forwards in the premier league right now and he should be massively in demand.

Somehow, rather than focussing on the fact he doesn’t ideally fit in Amorim’s system, all that seems to have been shared by the club seems to be stating what a problem he is and how he doesn’t train properly - it’s like we are trying to get out publicity to justify a sale. Of course, the complete removal from a squad which still contains the likes of Antony also hardly makes him look an attractive purchase. Everything generated in the press suggests a situation where we are desperate to get rid at any cost and someone taking him on is doing us a favour and getting massively damaged goods.

The only PR which has helped try and generate a decent basis for a sale was Rashford’s own “new challenge” statement. We could have easily run with that and built upon it but instead everything that seems to come from the club seems focussed on reducing his value. It’s truly bizarre.
 
How did Rashford's brother become his agent? How easy was it to get the job? What is the prerequisite? Does his brother know who to call? Does his brother thinks all the big clubs are eagerly waiting to sign Rashford? Anyway, there will be no takers unless Rashford decided to reduct 40-50% of his salary so I think Rashford will ultimately end up like Lingard and leave on free and join the MLS where he can watch NBA, MLB and etc.

Lingard is in Korea playing for FC Seoul. 6 goals in 26 games or so goggle tells me. Hopefully Rashford is the last of that “brat pack” out the door.

People on here insisted last year if he were for sale every top club in Europe would be in for him
