Marcus Rashford (out)

Funny how the news about him always make him sound like such a great guy. You wouldn't think we were talking about the same arrogant lazy arse who every manager has had a problem with
Mitten himself has said that his comment about every manager having a problem with him has been twisted outside of what he wants it to mean and he wants Rashford to work out at Man Utd.

It boggles my mind how quickly people believe any shite tweeted by journalists these days. We all know they used to make up stories to sell newspapers, now it’s even easier to throw a tweet out and get clicks and engagement.

There’s zero benefit for Rashford’s camp to brief that he’s had offers from Saudi, it’s like admitting that the only place he can get offers from is a footballers graveyard. His agent will have the phone number, and vice versa, of every major sporting director in Europe. They aren’t sitting there reading tweets from a no mark journalist from the daily mail thinking ‘oh look we need to be quick and bid because Saudi have’.
You mean his brother who never brokered a transfer in his life?

Crikey. You really hate the guy, don’t you? I think you need a break from the Rashford thread

Nah, i really don’t hate him. Ideally he steps up and consistently performs for us.

I’ve said it a few times that i think the people around Rashford aren’t very good at «reading the room». He’s an academy player and he’s done wonders for the community, yet it reached a point a long time ago where even the matchgoing fans got frustrated and annoyed with him. That is something that builds up over a long period of time. Imo, the only way of getting out of such a situation is simply by working harder on the pitch. You don’t need the collaboration videos of him training with an external trainer which are then plastered all over social media, you don’t need the PR stuff during the summer about the time spent building up extreme fitness for the coming season. If you don’t actually show this extreme fitness on the pitch it just adds to the negativity. Fair enough that not everything is coming off, the overall performances isn’t good enough, but the minimum is still working hard rather than talk about it. The disconnect between Rashford and matchgoing fans has grown, seemingly without anyone around him being able to understand how to turn it around.

The interview with Winter was a disaster in every possible way. I get that Rashford and Garnacho were hardly pleased with being left out of the squad and hung out to dry in the press with the comments about expectations, performing in training etc, but it was rounded off with Amorim stating that they both responded well to being left out by upping their performances in training. He was pleased with how it was handled by them. Case closed. Fans are already less than impressed with your performances and attitude, you’re coming from a poor season and had the Belfast incident, new manager has just arrived and fans are generally optimistic, just won against Manchester City after turning things round at the very end. It’s not really the perfect timing for a planned interview with Winter where you come off as being able to pick and choose clubs around Europe, ready for a new challenge and the next steps, never resting as life is a stair that must be climbed and all of that. It’s beyond stupid to pull a stunt like that at a time like this. First and foremost you don’t really achieve anything positive by going public, it’s not like any clubs needs to be made aware, it just shows that he’s not ready to accept the challenge laid down by the manager. Secondly, everyone expected a lot of concrete news about interest from clubs given that Rashford went public with him being ready to leave, you expect that a deal is being worked on and it’s pretty much signed, but almost 3 weeks later and there’s been nothing. I really don’t think he could’ve played his hand any worse here. You come off as being in a position of strength, be careful or i’ll join a better club and leave this mess behind, but apparently no one is really interested in investing and you look like a bit of a tit.

Maybe something positive will come out of it, maybe the lack of interest will be a fair bit of a warning to Rashford that at the age of 27, when he should be at his peak, there’s not many clubs interested. It’s quite clear that he needs to drop the people advising him.

Too much fuss/drama about an overpaid, lazy, passionless, and frankly bang average player.
If he had 1% self awareness he's have turned his career around 3 or 4 managers ago. Just get rid and move on.

Mitten is the most bland person I've ever come across in my life. He obviously has useful contacts and sources for his information, but he's unwilling to ever fully commit on what he says or go into meaningful detail, presumably for fear of pissing people at the club off. In the end his articles say a lot without really saying much at all. You have to read between the lines with him

If Arsenal submit a GBP40m bid, would we be willing to sell him to them?

No.

Watching him succeed for them whilst we piss about with Hojlund/Zirkzee is bad enough, but we'll likely buy Gyokeres to Antony it up with the money made.

If he leaves, I'd prefer him to go abroad.

Back to Belfast, Marcus.

Not wrong.

My primary concern is him staying and blaming 'the club' for stymying his progress.

There will be no big money for him and he, we, desperately need a contract reduction.

This. People act like he’s a slave of ours and have no free will. It’s on us, that we gave him this contract.

This guy?

According to the new Talk of the Devils they pissed PSG about last time for the new contract so it's unlikely PSG will be interested again. They clearly expected him to be at Utd for life so didn't need a decent relationship with PSG etc.

Goldturd is full of shite. No idea why his tweets are being taken as fact. Go watch his bs content if you really are taken in by falsehoods, guy doesn’t even own up to who he really supports.
Feels like another PR exercise by Rashford, when we all know he won't back up those claims with actual consistency on the training grounds

Honestly think the Napoli swap deal for Osimhen is the only way we can get rid.
I’ve just watched all his goals since moving to Turkey, 3 extremely powerful headers, an outstanding overhead kick, left and right foot volleys and tap ins. He would lift this team beyond recognition from day 1.

Rashford is going to dig his heels in and be a pain to get rid of. Wouldn’t be surprised if he thinks he should be a club of a similar statute to United. This swap is the perfect deal for us really.

Seeing all these media reports it's hard not to be cynical.

I am a fan of Rashford's but all this just comes across like he thought Europe's elite would be in for him, he's found out nobody in Europe will pay him better than United and now it's all 'Rashford's willing to stay.'

He's like the fella who's in a relationship, starts a tinder profile to assess his options, gets no matches with anyone better than his current girl, then 'decides' to stay with his other half.

If PSG had come knocking would we be getting these stories about how hard he's been training and how he actually isn't that fussed about leaving?

Exactly and it shouldn't come as a surprise to him either. Top clubs want top players, a struggling player on massive wages is the opposite of that.

Wonder if the club is prepared to dig it's heels in. Marcus clearly has ideas above his station. He's basically saying he doesn't want to work for the team and then expects there to be a queue of clubs wanting to sign him where he'd likely break the wage structure.

I really hope the club backs Amorim in February when inevitably he's still here and still not working hard enough in training. Training matters.

I love this part of the Rashford cycle. Hype up the possibility of leaving only to find not a single top club in the world is remotely interested.

IDK.

Would anyone have said Arteta would have bought Havertz for £65mil and put him on £280,000 a week?

I bet you that prior to that transfer being rumoured, people would have said there as a zero chance of that.

And we are taking a Havertz that scored 7 in 35 the season before Arteta signing him. Rashford in this dreadful season of his is averaging better.

While I take the point, the two situations are not at all similar.

Arteta was still buying a player who still potential to improve, for one, and you can't possibly be suggesting that their goal scoring percentage would be the only criteria they looked at.

There's a massive difference between buying Havertz who had turned 24, in the weeks before that transfer, and buying Rashford with all of his faults, not least that he's lost pace and has shown no aptitude for pressing, at 27. Arsenal under Arteta also don't tend to buy a lot of players over 25.

If they truly didn't have a team lined up it just demonstrates the petulance of that interview. I'm fine with him coming back in the team but he should be made to earn it, I'm hoping Amorim doesn't get desperate enough to put him back in before that happens.

I still love the kid and I don't like the constant slandering of his character, but in terms of performances I agree he should be sold at this point.
What I won't stand for is moaning about how dare he not want to go to Saudi Arabia. Noone should want to go there and good on Marcus for not doing so.

I can’t see Amorim bringing him in unless he wants him to play. He has shown he picks the players and they have to earn their place. Same with Garnacho who has been left out. The manager has set his stall out early with that approach and rightly so.

What do you love about the "kid"?

Obviously. Why would anyone not!?

People are fearful that if he plays well for them it'll be bad for us because we could have had that instead of selling it. Which is irrelevant, he hasn't performed well for Utd for a while now.

It's like the Sancho thread, people are willing him to fail at Chelsea. But the relationship between Sancho and the fans and club was broken, so future outcomes for him are largely irrelevant to the need to move him on.

Yeah Carragher basically said the same thing most sound minded fans are thinking...he simply isn't anywhere near elite enough to warrant all this discussion.

Our kid wanting to jump ship at our worst period in a generation.

Love Rashy .

The ship is telling him to jump, and actively trying to get other ships to come pick him up. Meanwhile, tons of people are watching the ship, all of them wanting him off. Then they get mad when he says ok.
