It worries me that some people thought he was decent tonight. He wasn’t terrible but it was just, well, very average.

I suppose our expectations are so low with him, tonight could look like a decent performance.

I just appreciated that he looked sharper and more explosive running with the ball. Because at the beginning of the year that looked completely out of his game.

Night of wayward passes, running into dead ends, shooting off players legs. Pretty typical display from him these days
Are we talking about Rashford or the team generally here?

I thought he took on his man with pretty good success rate tonight, there just seems to be no chemistry with this team to time runs or passes into the box, and it’s literally with all the players not just Rashford.

At one point I saw a poster criticising Rashford for not running in at the back post to attack a cross, then just after he beat his man and put in a great ball with Amad being nowhere near it at the back post. It’s tactical surely because it looks the same regardless of who is playing.

Better than his bad games for us but still not great. I do agree that taking him off to put Bruno on the wing was poor from ten hag though.

That was actually a decent enough performance. Not the kind of performance you pay however much we're paying him for, but a decent one nonetheless.

More confident, looked sharper but very wasteful. No quality in his final ball or decision making.

Looked a different player tonight, reminded me of his early days. Some great moments and a desire to run with the ball. Hope to see more of it, never too late for a player to rediscover some form.

Looked lively at least but some of his passing attempts are shocking, not even close to reach the target.
But the nutmegs are fun to watch

If are expecting Marcus to his the touchline and square balls then we need a striker in the box that's going to try and put himself into a goalscoring position.

He's an average run of the mill Premier League winger/forward. The like you see play week in week out for every midtable and lower level club in the league.

Just have to accept that and judge his performances accordingly . Also have to ignore that the club is paying him Salah/Haaland money

Its not quite obviously since Garnacho is far more dangerous playing the same position and Rashford did the same thing under Ole
It quite obviously is, please check your eyes next time. Garnacho just has the work rate of a demon so he’s able to constantly get up and down the pitch but the way our build up structure works relies on the wingers constantly staying wide while the fullbacks invert.

You should use your eyes. Whats wrong with wingers staying wide? Does that mean Rashford should not to make runs beyond his fullback and come deep to get the ball to switch play every time?

Why reply to my post to talk nonsense?
Both Amad and Garnacho make those runs and Rashford does not.

Still not his biggest fan but at least he looked confident. That has been lacking for over a year now so it’s great to see him play with some flair. I think his passing was largely awful though but that’s him in a nutshell!

Last night proves he can try. The fact he's self evidentially selective in when he does and doesn't give a toss, is damning.

We've become so accustomed to how awful he is that it's easy to overlook how bad that was. From second 1. An unforgivable showing, and would gladly never see him in a united shirt again, even in a charity match

Only delusional people still hope that Rashford can somehow turn it around. He has declined so much the last 3 years. When was the last opponent he managed to boss?

He is barely a PL regular starter now. Impact sub at most.

The issue is that like with other overpaid, average players we had (Martial, DDG, Lingard), nobody wants him.

Terrible first half not much bettter 2nd but it was better and he actually started to do some work. Quite impressed with the sliding tackle he did and then that other one where he was basically last man. I say impressed but maybe more just in shock that he did such things when he seems to shy away from every challenge upfront.

How he doesn’t even contest the ball with VDV is embarrassing for him. He could have stopped that first goal at source but had long since made his mind up to not even try to make a challenge. He carried on jogging ffs the way he was facing.

Yeah basically this.

Shame he waited till the second half to make his first tackle in five years, we could have done with it in the second minute

How would he have contested it exactly ? He got dispossessed because he didn't see him and once VdV had the ball and started, there was no catching him.
It makes no sense to blame him for that

Didn’t see him!! Give over

The reason he stops running is exactly because he can see VDV. He just doesn’t think he can win the ball.

He literally gave up. But it was there to be won…with perhaps some effort and commitment.

Absolute bottle job

No, he kicked the ball first and Garnacho was in front of him, he was focused on him and VdV used that split second of inattention to disposses him cleanly. After that there was feck all Rashford could do cause VdV was gone. He could never have won the ball, VdV timed his intervention perfectly

Tone was set after 3mins when he lost the ball and had zero interest in winning it back or helping his teammates. Disgraceful.

At a certain point you have to look at the coaches around him who don't seem to tell him this or correct it - he's done this consistently.

He was getting pelters from the Stratford end. He should have accelerated, attempted to get a toe on the ball, and if not just stick his body in there and give away the free kick. Instead he just gave up shrugged and jogged behind VdV, which is sadly absolutely standard for him.

He doesn't need to win the ball back - just get back and help your teammates, he's one of the quickest players in the league!
